Ha good on you. But as you might have noticed I said at the moment. I'm moving between continents and sold my setup due to that and I wanted to change my focus. So many interesting modules I would like and build the base differently. Expect to build up new and fresh rig next year. I'm talking of Euro and Vintage boxes. MIDI controllers and keyboards come and go of course. I have Reaktor and Live, but that is enough to consume one totally, so it is iOS now. iPads will soon run OSX as well, so the old friends from desktop will return. I love Synths!
It'll be good fun to build your next setup when you get settled!
Not bad after 20 min of exploration. Not as fast and intuitive as I thought.
Drawing of automation is not "drawing", only one line /tap at a time.
Loading a sample to a track mutes everything.
Reverb quality is poor.
Improvement is still possible, and hped for 7can$+tps+tvq ouch
You can draw in realtime within a loop if play and record are engaged...then use tap-at-a-time to edit yer curves
Hey,
I absolutely did't need any more apps this weekend. Picked up some that have been on the list for awhile, autopad and voco. Also took a chance on Quantum and am thrilled I did.
So, I'm pretty flush at the moment... but I bought one more on a whim and out of pure appollism.
Picked up this Pulse Music Studio app because it's on sale for 50% off at the moment, and I thought the minimal GUI would be good on the iPhone as an easy to use sequencer. But the simple, minimal interface is deceptive. There's actually quite a bit this app can do, beyond what meets the eye. Honestly, for a great iPhone sequencer.. I keep forgetting KRFT pretty much has that covered, and then some. However, this little beauty is no muss, no fuss... easy to get something going, automation, externally drive other synths via core midi, audiobus, aum, iaa, etc. No AU or AB3, but it's really a nicely done app that has a lot of bases covered.

Buggy as hell for me. Record erase button doesn't always work or only the visuals of the notes remain, either way, annoying. And also everytime i record from the built in keyboard, several notes will not play back even though they were clearly audible during recording and are showing up in the grid. So that's useless. Cool concept but there's no way I can use it can like that. Note preview when placing notes would be nice too
I couldn't give two flips about not having landscape. But, are you saying the current version has a lot of bugs that make it unusable? I only played with it on the iPad for about an hour last night after buying it, and another half hour on the iPhone this morning. I was mostly sequencing samples that I brought in via AudioShare and messing with the fx automation. I was mostly impressed and didn't run into any issues at all.
Is there a scenario I can try and replicate to see if there are any showstoppers like the ones you see to be having? If so, I'd get a refund since I just bought it, but I can't with good conscious ask for a refund on an app that hasn't presented any problems at all for me yet. In fact, I've been fairly impressed overall so far.
@skiphunt No major issues for me and as you say, quite powerful and probably under-rated. Cool new FX added in latest update.
It took me a few minutes to get how the automation works, since I was expecting to see motion in the fx box, but then I realized it was writing the automation in the top part of the screen while dragging your finger in the fx box.
Kinda cool actually. Especially for use on the iPhone's smaller screen and sequencing your own samples with automated effects added. And, you can use it in AUM and AB2 as well. Sort of diggin' it so far.
I don't have Pulse but there's a competitor that does the same, more and better I read in another thread: Beatonal
http://beatonal.com/
btw and it is cheaper. You can download it for free and unlock all features for 3.99
@skiphunt the issues are with recording patterns live with the built in keyboard, I'm assuming this will be the case with midi input too, but if all you do is program notes it's fine. Though I do wish there was note preview when you place a note
Thanks. I’ll keep playing with it and it’ll I hit any snags or showstopper bugs that aren’t acceptable, I’ll just get a refund. So far, for my use I’m diggin it.
@mannix I tried beatonal when everyone was raving about it, but it didn’t work for me. Nothing wrong with the app. I just didn’t connect with it much.
Hey, I was revisiting beatonal on your recommendation. One of the things I like about this Pulse sequencer is that I can use it to sequence my own samples. Don’t think I have anything that can do that on my iPhone.
I don’t see a way to do that in the free version of beatonal. Do you know if sample import is possible with the Pro beatonal upgrade?
There's unfortunately no sample import in Beatonal. If you want sequencing and sample import there's of course Elastic Drums
Or of course, Pulse which this thread is about.
You almost convinced me with the Elastic Drums reference. I love ED and forgot that I've got in on iPhone as well. So, had a quick little session using one imported sample in ED. Just 3 tracks and some automated effects.
Then did the same thing in Pulse. Still diggin' Pulse to be honest. Just easier for me to get there and I like the interface. Nothing against ED of course.
I did get one bug in Pulse, that cleared up after switch back and forth between two effects panels. It was just the display wasn't drawing for the whole pane briefly. Not enough to ask a refund for, and I liked what I came up with in Pulse a little more than what I came up with in ED.
Skip, I have Pulse, but have honestly spent no time with it. Is it fairly navigable on the phone? Space is currently rather tight on the iPad.
Yes, easily navigable on the iPhone. Easier on the iPad of course, but I have no problem with it on a small iPhone SE screen. Feels like it was first designed for iPhone use and iPad use tacked on after the fact. Likely why it's only Portrait orientation.
As I mentioned before, I really didn't need this one at all. But, for sequencing my own samples on iPhone alone, it's worth having. As others have pointed out, there are other apps that can get there too. I'm just partial to Pulse's open, airy, minimal interface and the amount of features you get in an efficient package.
I'm keeping it.
ps. one caveat, my personal value assessment is based on the 50% sale price I paid.
Thanks for the info; you have convinced me to give it a tackle.
Well, as always... your mileage may vary.
I bought it, played with it on an iPad and iPhone for awhile. Considered the presented points of why someone should use a different app, then made the decision that for my use and for what I paid, it was worth keeping.
I'm still enjoying it since it first went live- it sounds good (fx, parameter access including automation, onboard sounds) and makes for quick work.
