They never mention iPads :) ;) just Macbooks...
It might be a curseword in a massiv studio like that. But he had an huge touchscreen.

I often see and hear iPads mentioned from other artists. They are accepted for sure :)
I´m sure in some years Apple offers bigger screens which runs iOS.
But yeah, i thought everyone hates the new macbook pros but it seems musicians (or whatever you call them) seems to like them. I mean those awesome force touch trackpads....i love them and they are bigger now than my iPhone 6S plus :o (i think about 6.7" on the 15"). Let it freaking run iOS apps on it´s own.....i mean, almost iPad mini.

Same here but he's obviously done something! ;)

He is like Cirque Soliel without the acrobatics or The Blue Man Group without the... blue men.

  • Good Lord people. The man is wealthy and can buy what he wants. So what? Wtf is he supposed to do, continue to record in his mom's basement? There are way worse things to do with your money. The taxidermy room is bizarre. The presenter is an idiot. But this guy is living the dream, and I doubt any of you would give it all away. Your studio might not be as crazy as his, but it would be pretty damned nice.

Talk for yourself....my studio would looks like a child from a borg starship and tron. ;)
And i would hire someone to build me a Telharmonium!

Anybody with a taxidermy room is a total and complete LOSER and an embarrassment to the human race.

    Doubleplus!

  • In a world where a lot people are hungry and others are eating gold i wonder about nothing.

  • Not sure who this guy is (other than that anyoing rooftop thing in goat sim) so cant comment on his work. I'll say this though... i bet i can put together better songs with my ipad than he can with his 10 million dollar room. If he's up for the challenge let me know!
I have to say that is an embarrassment of riches... (but I do have like 20 guitars so...). I think GAS is a nice thing if you can afford it. But honestly the amount of screwing around to get the right sound would kill my workflow. I barely use my push 2 these days because Ipad is faster and more portable. - vive le difference!

would you explain, because I have some old Duda stuff and always regretted they didn't succeed with the Divine Machine and their synths.

Got him on the right track and established work ethics. DeadM is talented but "they" or was it rumor said he was heading in the wrong direction. He also thought him what he knows in mixing.

thanks, but we all learn that way from someone else or folks around us 'in the beginning'
I never minded DeadM much, but always liked his tracks for sounddesign and groove.
And his (visual) signature theme is nothing less than genious.

Well they were starting out about the same time, but that doesn't matter. I shouldn't even claim really, that I have any knowledge about this. When you compare their real status in the music arena based on accomplishments I think it speaks for it self.
But I can never respect a person that demonstrates his success by the number of stuffed animals they have (and even if some might be fake, It's the thinking that matters) and has a special taxidermy room for this. Not a good role model indeed. He has shown similar behavior many times and it goes against some of my core beliefs, so I'm hardly non partial in this discussion. Bad treatment of animals in action or attitude is one of the very few things that can really fire me up (of course same with bad treatment of small children jara, jara...), so forgive my useless rant. Totally off topic, but I feel better.

Thank you Dr. @Telefunky for the session, how much?

  • Didn't Deadmau5 have a music app a few years ago?

  • I find it kind of funny that I'm an old guy and I know who Deadmau5 is. But I think we proved last year that a lot folks here are not young, so he's after our best before date. ;)

Nope. And I don't judge anyone who would go in this direction. Just not my jam by any stretch...

I'm definitely in the "not young" category and lost touch with "popular" music about 20 years ago. I occassionally listen to artists that I hear of and read about in the press who are clearly very successful, just to check if I am missing out on anything worth listening too. In general, the answer is a very resounding no (IMHO of course), even if they are successful. I'll stick to listening to what I like, there is plenty of great music out there, even if it doesn't get much mainstream exposure.

  • Hierarchy, Rank, Number, Judgment--

  • Luckily, I'm not remotely interested in competing with this guy. Have seen some of his videos but, like others, I couldn't tell you the name of a single 'hit' belonging to him, or hum a melody even. Could be more to do with my memory though..

The giant bauble head is a good gimmick in terms of keeping him in the public conscious although Frank Sidebottom deserves some credit I feel.

But fair play to him. He's worked the business in his favour and seems to be having fun.

  • Give a kid a billion dollars, and they probably build themselves a castle full of toys.

What’s the competition? I wanted to learn something from this video, but was bored. The ostentatious display was depressing. I don’t understand much of it. Yep, I’m old.

  • Wow so much "hater" type attitude. If you don't like it like then why feel the need to post your "I'm not jealous but he's just a rich kid who makes crap music"?

To each their own. I don't know deadmouse from diplo but I can respect the hard work put in to earn his house and "toys".

I'm sure if this was your son you'd be pretty proud of what he accomplished.

  • You'll find any number of people in any number of businesses with houses like his in one form or another. They're everywhere. He's no different in that respect. I can look at Google maps satellite view and see them all around me. My house is not one of them. :D

  • Being a guy that doesn't know anything about rave type music -

I googled the guy, and from what I can tell he's grown up as a geek; got a chance to use a DOS machine as a kid and immediately started bending it towards making music. Never let go and and has been on one course through the whole evolution from DOS midi sequencers through what we have today.

The thing that jumps out is that he has focused on connecting to his audience. That beyond just focusing on his music, that the live moment of connenction between audience and performer seems to be paramount for him. That sort of showmanship has been put to great use from Peter Gabriel to Kiss to Buckethead, and leaves audiences with a loving connection that's everything - great music and the experience of sharing it live.
Everything I saw in that video talked to his success filling his need to answer the subtleties of his muse, answering his audiences diesire for a great show, and giving himself and his friends a happy life.
In terms of the subject line, "compete" seems misplaced - it seems, and I hope, he's just been on the right course at the right time with the right luck to let his dreams come true. And that his connection to his music and its audience was the path there. Inspiration might be a better word...

I doubt most of the people at his shows could tell you the name of a 'hit' either. Not sure it even works that way in this world. It is a big old dance party.

  • What are we supposed to be competing with? All the videos I saw of him he was swearing the whole time and seemed to hate the music he was making. No thanks.

I can see how hiding behind a giant mouse head would facilitate a connection with someone. I might go try that at the bar Friday.

Good point. Did try and listen to some on youtube. Nice enough but only made it to 4.5 minutes of a 2 hour remix! Phew, glad it's not my world.

I speak only for myself, but I choose to comment about a culture I see in decline, and values taking it down the drain. I don’t hate this guy, just what the video represents. If he was my son, I’d be proud of his accomplishments, happy for his happiness, yet still saddened by the world he’s inherited. I’m not asking anyone to share my feelings, and I make no apologies for sharing them.

  • No hate here. I don't know him or understand why people would like this and how he can earn so much from doing it, but yes, if I earned so much, I'd probably have a room full of vintage synths too, so good luck to him. I'd probably pass on the taxidermy room though...
