I just had a go on Air 2, latest iOS, @ 256 buffer, running thru the 3 Audio Damage effects and had no problem. The AUM DSP meter would jump to 104% at points, but no crackling or upset of any kind. No other apps were open or running.
I just noticed that I had eco mode enabled. if I turn this off the crackles appear even on a single note with some patches
Well, sure. But you'd like to use it in conjunction with other apps. That's kind of the only way I ever use Model 15.
How many apps have background update set on your iPad? I found a few a couple years ago that caused ~40% of my audio apps to "crackle". I now allow only a very select few apps to do background updates.
Its always a good thing to limit the apps doing background updates. When I had the problem I turned off all the background update permissions and the problem went away. I then enabled the few I really wanted and the problem never came back.
Its a little more complex, but you can also reboot your iPad and then let it sit for 12 or more hours and then check which apps used to most battery (look in Settings->Battery).
Quote for Wikipedia: "SSD write performance is significantly impacted by the availability of free, programmable blocks. Previously written data blocks no longer in use can be reclaimed by TRIM; however, even with TRIM, fewer free blocks cause slower performance."
While SSD is much better at dealing with less space than a HDD, it is still affected. SSDs also slow down over time depending on the amount of writes and updates they need to perform. Anandtech has a nice article with benchmarks that show how significant the slowdown is. I have not benchmarked my iPad and don't plan to as benchmarks wear out your SSD and SSDs slow down as they wear out.
This is another reason I got the 512GB iPad as soon as it was released.![:) :)](https://forum.loopypro.com/resources/emoji/smile.png)
