I really like Bandcamp. Much easier than SoundCloud (IMO) to manage your tracks, customize, add, edit, etc.
And I highly recommend the Wizibel app for quickly creating YouTube-able content with no experience necessary. If a dummy like me blah blah etc etc.

Photos yes, but I don’t think it lets you import video.
One of the things I like about sc is the notification someone gets when you follow someone, and they can follow you back. It really helps building a community. I'm not aware of any other platform that does this.

In the previous thread about SoundCloud I asked if anyone's heard of "songspace". There's a website and an iOS app. No, I definitely do not work for or represent them. But I'd love hear some feedback about them.
New companies that might become a replacement are TrackD (supported by -among others- Dave Stewart) and Artistco (supported by Jordan Rudess). But as long as it isn't clear if they are able to take their service off the ground or stay a place for a few nerds I guess I'll use mainly bandcamp.

You can use a free account, or pay for promotional services...you can also use it to get your stuff on Spotify and iTunes..
Not sure of its usefulness just for hosting tracks for people to 'find' though.
The three music delivery/artist promotion sites I've used a lot (besides SoundCloud) are
SoundClick.com, BandCamp.com and ReverbNation.con.
SoundClick is okay, the site has been around a long time (think I joined in 2007) so the UI and web design is a bit spartan. It's free, you can upload a lot o songs and can share them pretty easily..
ReverbNation is another one I've had for awhile and it is similar to SoundClick in function but the site is easier to look at & has iOS & Android apps to control song uploads, your profile, etc.
BandCamp is probably the best known outside of SoundCloud, it has a free tier for posting music, etc. One thing it has that only SoundCloud has (that I'm aware of) is posting songs to private. I like putting rough mixes, experimental bits made in Gadget, Cubasis,etc. , (works in progress) in private on SoundCloud to review them & for quick reference during lyric writing, etc. Very cool that Bandcamp allows private posting.
Those are just my quick thoughts on the sites/apps that I've used aside from SoundCloud. Since SC is on the endangered species list we're all giving these other music sites the reach around, trying to see which one will treat us right...or something.

I think I will consider Bandcamp, for which I already have profiles for my solo stuff and collabs with Doug Woods but Youtube also seems a good idea now it is easier to get some form of reasonably interesting video together.
Reverb Nation is definitely a no go for me. I did try it and posted some tracks a while back but got so fed up of spam type emails inviting me to take part in competitions and submit tracks to dodgy sounding stations that I left. I don't think I even got a single play for any of my tracks even though Reverb Nation told me that one of them was at number one in the chart for my local area!
Haha! You are joking, right? Soundclick was cool back in the day, but good luck ever getting on one of their charts. That site today is probably what Soundcloud will look like very soon unless they stop incentivising spammers with their pay-to-play model.
On the other hand, Youtube is completely free and if you want you can even try to earn monetization off it. The other thing I like about Youtube vs Soundcloud is that people are more open about rating and commenting, so stuff that is popular generally has merit.
On Soundcloud and Soundclick what you get is one guy playing his song on repeat all day and all night to get to the "top" of the "chart" and it's usually the case that it's very amateur and immature and incomplete sounding stuff that gets all the attention on these sites. I don't care for the contest side of things, but what I would like is to find credible artists to subscribe to and to be able to ignore the rest of it.
Soundcloud integration into apps is a pure gimmick. No one needs to share a five second loop.
When Soundcloud had groups it was still very imperfect, I didn't like the way every page was just a long "feed," I would have preferred if artists had control over their profile etc. Bandcamp is great in that regard. But when Soundcloud made it harder to upload, and removed the groups, it was game over for them.
Soundcloud reminds me of MySpace. Each had a buzz around it, but the few times I visited either sight all I could think about was how poorly the site was designed, and I would leave rather quickly with a little less faith in humanity.
I just checked for the first time in years and I have two spots in the top 100 Baroque charts and one spot in the top 300 Techno charts. Yay, me. I've never paid them a dime.
But it's a free place to put music and I don't get involved in the social side of any of these sites.
I wonder what the under/over is on them being bought/scooped up before the end of term or whether the big boys are just happy to see them go...?
