I've been waiting for another Korg sale since Gadget 3's sale, where I picked up Gadget for the first time.

I had iM1 and bought the IAP's so for this sale I wanted Module so I could get 5 more Gadgets as well. Well, I love Module, although it seems to get this "meh" rap; some of the Rhodes & B3 sounds were incredible.

I have limited storage space an figured I could just about fade the 1GB+ (especially since it also activates the other 5 Gadgets) but when I go to mess with the Module Gadgets a dialog box pops up that says it takes another 1.3GB+ to get the 5 Module Gadgets loaded.

Damn, I had never heard of that caveat before, just figured Gadget would make available all the other Korg "Gadgets" you own. Makes me stop and consider if getting Odyssei on sale is worth it if I'm pushed into bumping more stuff off to make room...

Yes the 4GB of RAM is awesome, the increased screen size, the new speaker system, etc. is reason enough to want the new iPad Pro 10" (or 12"), but the biggest attraction is the 256 & 512 GB size storage. Juggling apps on & off an iPad is a first world problem of epic proportions...

As well as I understand, once you purchase the Module and launch it on your iDevice, all relevant gadgets within Gadget will be unlocked. After that you could delete Module. I'm sure it will have not influence on your unlocked gadgets.

Wait... I can delete Module and keep the gadgets? By that logic I can delete Odessey, M1 and Wavestation... would Korg do that to ppl? Can someone really confirm?

Yeah, at least twice a year I have this internal debate. I don't particularly like the sounds that Electribe and iKaossilator trade in. But so many people swear by iKaossilator that it makes me wonder. Is it possible to get anything out of iKaossilator it doesn't sound like slightly past-its-prime EDM?

Yes! Just shove it into Grind, Shaper and Turnado- all at the same time. Nobody will ever know where it came from! :p

    A fair point.

I don't have Module, but I have iM1, ODYSSEi and iWAVESTATION. All of these apps was deleted from my iPad. But nevertheless I have relevant gadgets within Gadget. Even more - I have iM1 gadget on my iPhone but all we know that iM1 doesn't maintain iPhone (iPad only). So I think that you could make a similar trick with Module.

  • Question: if i buy these iAP's for the iM1, will they be avaiable in Darwin too?

Odyssei is wayy underrated. It has the best built-in sequencer/modulator.

@MikeyP Trust me on this, if you're in an 80s band and play keytar, then a) you're right up my alley and b) I know my alleys...Odyssey won't give you the breadth of sounds of Wavestation or Module, but it will give you the most pure enjoyment.

    Right on!! :)

I just pulled the trigger on Odyssei

  • I swooped module, odyssei.. and the expansions!

I'm a fan of the Module app and would dig keeping it as a standalone for use outside Gadget. Since the internal bonus Gadgets are only unlocked with purchase of their main app it does seem that loading the Gadget versions is possible even if you delete the main version (why would you have to download another GB plus if the Gadget versions could run off their main counterparts architecture.

It's interesting and a cool way of expanding Gadget. Korg made a good move here with that.

I didn't have the Polysix. Yummy. Just hope it works on iOS 11. Any guesses?

FYI: No Link. No Midi-Clock (that I can see).
I don't know if those are important to you.

They are... somewhat, but I'm I terested in the sounds mostly, and to fidget with an instrument I didn't have money to buy when I was a teenager. However, I ended up buying KASPAR. So far, I love it.

I agree completely with ODYSSEi being underrated. It has some of the most usable sounds in music making. I like the fat drones and basses. It's very Kraftwerky... streamlined, almost analogue sounds, but with that digital touch on top of the sound. It can also make complex arpeggios.
Mind you, it can't be loaded straight into a daw like Cubasis or Auria Pro. You must route it through Audiobus or AUM, but that works fine. I have all Korg apps, and with the multitimbral iM1, this is my favourite workhorse.

Sure it can. In Auria you just have to load into an FX slot, then send Midi to it. In Cubasis create an audio track then under routing select interapp audio as the source. Then create a midi track and route to it.

I get this with wavestation. But have stopped buying things just because i might not be "getting" the appeal.

I'm exactly the same with wavestation! I really like the abstract stuff that, I believe?, Matt Fletcher gets when he abuses the synth, but the actual presets are just godawful. Same with me for Kaspar: I don't care how modulatable it is, if I hate it at its base level....

But then, you know. I do enjoy a new purchase!

this might be considered heresy here but i'm done with buying more ios synths. i have model 15 and odyssei and the brambos stuff and of course most of gadget, but nothing beats sitting on the couch and designing sounds and saving on one of the roland boutiques. i don't like switching pages, cumbersome and always seem to get a click or some noise. any new gadget (that is not awful 90's preset sounds) that comes out i will get because i love that environment, but any "external" synths that are not in gadget will truly be external. unless i'm mixing in auria and realize i need some quick pad glue or something like that.

the roland ju-06 is truly magical. controls are so limited but everything sounds phenomenal. bass, pads, arps, stabs. can be found for 200.

Isn't this against your original plan of getting rid of all your analog synths though ? You're going to end up with a huge collection again lol.

Haha i know. But for analog aounds all i really need is moog and roland. That's what i try to emulate with any synth i get my hands on. We'll see if i don't stray.

well. im going in the opposite direction for sure. gonna get a 0-coast when i visit the states. and maybe a couple other modular boxes.

Never say never but i doubt i'll ever go modular. I need patch saving otherwise i tend not to roam too far on synths and stick to one or two good sounds.

i just render stuff to audio when working with external synths. it forces you to get creative with what you already have. i kind of like that lol.

Once bm3 is ironed out i'll try sampling and working with loops again. Have tried before many times but i only ever use samples for drums and then play or notes. And i like to scroll through sounds i like and/ir make at the moment. Just what feels more natural to me. But yeah. I've looked hard at the noise coast and others as well.

  • I'd sworn off buying anymore KORG stuff until iDS-10 got Link like they promised, or iM1 went universal, or both. However ODYSSEi and iWAVESTATION are both 50% off now, as apposed to the 33% off of the previous sales. So just a little tempted...

  • Oh $15 suddenly seems a lot more plausible. ODYSSEi or imS-20

    Hmm...

  • OK, iMS-20 looks like a lot of fun. What's the drawback? (Beside the fact that I should learn how to use Model 15 before I buy another modular synth....)
It's AB-compatible (though probably not ever AB3 optimized, right?). Does it have midi out? Anyone using this within Cubasis, say?

I found it extremely hard to get my head around how it works. I'm no slouch when it comes to figuring things out, and Model 15, Ripplemaker, Modular ... no problemo. But for some reason I could get nowhere with iMS-20 until one day the light went on watching @u0421793's WTF/Knobs video about iMS-20. It still confuses me but I get it better now. Never do anything with it other than mess about though.

It will load in an AB3 audio slot. No Midi Out. It will accept Midi, but I'm not sure you can filter out what it hears. I didn't see a setting for that in my quick look-see just now. No Link. I dunno about midi clock or IAA sync.

Good fun if you enjoy an occasional brain twister. Not much use for anything else for me.

It could be just the way my brain is wired. Sometimes I don't click with apps that are intuitive for every else. Sometimes I don't get why everyone else struggles with apps that I think are really simple.

Beer is good, but if you're gonna (literally) piss away the money anyway, why not piss it away on something you might open up later and get some entertainment out of. :D
