Are the IAPs in ODYSSEi on sale? They're $2.99 at the moment. And are they worth it?

They are just preset packs with two different skins and do not offer any extra functionality

Worth is debatable and dependant on what type of sounds you like I guess.

You get skin. Y u no buy ? Buy now!
Seriously though. It's a bunch of presets. Learnt a few things seeing how they were built. Plus a little knob twiddling can alter them just enough. Pretty sure Doug demoed the iap. Go Google it.

  • Wave Station is the cheapest its ever been. I'm tempted now...just for the sake of having it. I heard the desktop version also can be used as AUs outside gadget, but don't think I want to drop 200 bucks on it.

  • there is a standalone / VST desktop version of Wavestation which is currently 24.99 $

was thinkin' about it for a moment but as I have the ios version (which I like) I don't think I need it

I have it. But those vsts haven't been updated in years and now probably never will be. Some people say the wavestation vst sometimes crashes Logic, but I haven't used it enough to experience that.

  • Being a bit overshadowed by the arrival of BeatMaker 3, the Korg summer sale to me was a big deal. The last Korg sale was during Gadget 3's release, and that was the occasion I finally bit and bought Gadget.

How it adds more Gadgets depending on the purchase of other Korg app is a cool bonus. I wanted another sale to get Module at a good price since it adds 5 Gadgets to already stout collection.

I bought Module, was really impressed with the sounds in stand alone mode but when I went to use the Module Gadgets I came upon a dialog box saying it takes another 1GB+ to use them inside Gadget...damn. I'm low in space (which was another reason I held off on another big real estate Korg app) and knowing that beforehand would've been quite useful.

I've always wanted Odyssei but wasn't keen on another big data app, well I jumped on it as soon as I saw it was only 30MB or so. The three ARP presets are unreal, I just love the sounds coming out of it.

Between Odyssei, Moog Model 15 and iVCS3 I keep thinking are there really any other analog synths apps worth having now? Then the Kaspar Yonac synth shows up ...

    Great time for iOS music...

Don't forget DRC synth for analog greatness! It has that analog sound many claim but don't really have.

  • On principle I always stand against apps that have a separate iPhone version, like iElectribe. I lost the battle though. It's just too fun to have a bunch of apps on my iPhone that I can whip out in dull moments (usually while the wife shops :# ).

The iPhone iElectribe is really good. For some reason I get along with it better than the iPad version. I've been having a blast. Ignoring the principle of the thing, I've gotten more than my $10 out of it already.

Korg is sure good at emptying my wallet.

  • @Halftone Absolutely! See, that's why I have 225 apps on my iPad with 30+ in the stores cloud if I want to put them back on. Aside from Chrome, twitter, YouTube, etc the over 90% remaining are music apps...so much good stuff.

DRC is totally in the mix. And I spaced it...

  • In another thread, I was questioning whether I should buy the iMS-20. Then I learned about the iDS-10. Now I'm confused. The iMS-20 seems more sophisticated and visually cooler, but the iDS-10 seems more useful and also has a Vocoder. Now I don't know what to buy. I already have iM1 and iWavestation.

@scarletjerry iDS-10 is a port of Korg's synth instrument program for the Nintendo DS game system. It was an early mobile synth, as smartphone synths and the iPad wonders hadn't taken hold when DS-10 launched in 2008.

iMS-20 is Korg's iOS version of their classic late '70's-early '80's semi-modular analog synth (which the DS-10 was actually influenced by). It's like Korg's version of Moog's Model 15 in a very broad comparison.

Both have their supporters, there's quite a DS-10 community which surprised me which is why Korg probably put out the iOS version. The iMS-20 to me us the real deal, if I were going to get one or the other, iMS-20 would be the easy choice, for me.

  • @JRSIV Thanks for your info about the iDS-10 (I already knew a little about the history of the iMS-20). You're right - since the iMS-20 is based on a real synth, it's the best choice.

I'd get ODYSSEi first (if you don't have it already).

  • Interesting - I purchased iM1 and iWAVESTATION because of their vast sound libraries. I also prefer writing pop/soundtrack style music. I was interested in the iMS-20 because of its cool interface more than its sounds. Of course, I would love to buy all of the Korg synths, but why the Odyssei first? I have the Micrologue sounds via Cubasis for my synth sounds. Tell me more about the Odyssei.

    Thanks!

    Scarlet Jerry

  • @scarletjerry Indeed, iM1 and iWavestation offer a vast sound library (with the expansion cards).
If you're interested in experimenting with modular synthesis than iMS20 is cool.
ODYSSEi is a great sounding synth (one of the best on iOS), with 8 voice polyphony, an awesome step sequencer and nice effects. Plus it works with Gadget if you'd ever use that.

  • Thanks R_2!

  • LOVING Odyssei right now, can get lost in that synths sound for a long time!

Update: Seems like I spoke too soon. I bought Odyssei and went to use it within Gadget and got the Module notice again, but this time said F it and chose yes, let me use the 5 new Gadgets, thinking it would eat up a GB+ as the dialog box seemed to indicate before.

However the 5 Module Gadgets and the Lexington Odyssei Gadget were there ready to use and there was no additional hit to my storage as I feared. Outta sight.
