Groovebox 1.3 // New Ducker out today
Hey All,
We've just released a new free update of Groovebox that has a Ducker, and a few bug fixes.
The new Master Ducker lets you duck synths using either the Kicks in your Drum machines, or a separate 1 beat or 2 beat pattern.
We've also made even more improvements to performance.
(we've also finished the MIDI / Chromatic update, and that should be coming out very soon)

All sounds good. But where is Ducker? Can find no trace...unless the update you refer to has not reached the UK App Store?
Also, where is Swing? All I get when I tap Tempo are plus and minus to change tempo.
Oh, and with reference to Midi, please include Midi Out. That alone would be fantastic.
Press the gear button top left of the screen.
No offence, but I'm not that dozy.
Here's a screen grab of what I see when the gear button is tapped -
@Zen210507 and that's where the Ducker will appear when the update's available (is here in Spain)....
It' was here in the U.K.already
Gotcha, JG. Now, do you also have Swing under tempo?
Sounds great! Loving it thanks!
@Zen210507 Your screenshot is still showing version 1.0 as the version number, so I don't think you have any of the updates yet.
Okay, what version do you have? Mine says 1.0(1.0.349).
There is no new update showing, and I have no Ducking option or Swing under tempo.
Could it be that my Groovebox originated via TestFlight? Ah yes, of course, that is the answer. My update was not from the App Store.
All now well.
@AmpifyxNovation when can we chain multiple patterns together to form what resembles a song?
And the train keeps on a rollin'
And more importantly, when can we get a chromatic keys sequencer?
The pattern editor will also get Chromatic support at the same time as the MIDI In update.
And a song sequencer? Don't be shy!
I would really love a chord track sort of the one in Chordbot. Would help build Song so much faster IMHO.
What a great Groovebox! Thanks for Ducker
just waiting for midi input, hopefully it works on mixer too!
I'm interested in learning how users are building their songs in the current state of the app. For me, I get to the point where I got a nice looping 16 bar loop then I wish I had a way of continuing the song flow, but I can't seem to grasp what to do next. I'm not an expert midi programming musician but just an electric guitar player, which is the main reason why this app appeals to me.
Any and all ideas appreciated. Mostly what I want to create are worship songs for our married couples ministry. Of course I can always use Chordbot, but this app feels more natural to me.
How are you getting 16 bar patterns? Is that iPad exclusive or something?
To be honest, I'm not song building with Groovebox. Not yet. I await developments which would turn it from enormous fun, into a serious music making app.
A sequencer element and Midi out would do that. Although, I am already wondering if Midi out is going to be one if those features that never appears.
On the iPhone the right hand little menu gives you the option top part is 16 bars and lower is 4 bars see screen shot:

It's greyed out. You've actually got 8 bars there. I see
Oh ok, thanks for clarifying that. This app has sooo much potential for those seeking a quick Pro sounding song composing tool. Especially for electric guitar players like me that wanna create the bones of a song as quick and efficiently as possible then add Acoustic and electric guitars and vocals inside a DAW. But right now it's kind of so limited for me. Ike I said I get a nice groove going then I hit a thick wall.
Yeah that's the main problem with this. What can you do after building up your 8 bar loop? Nothing in Groovebox at least.
Groovebox's traditionally have patterns (your 16 bar loop) which you would chain together to make a larger song. I tend to use one pattern, live mute and filter, and live play over that.
I think for creative guys unlike me, could build a whole song out of that but I need intros, verses, bridges, chorus, endings etc. So far KRFT and Cubasis are doing the job for with the ease of midi recording. But having virtual Pro sounding musicians like in Groovebox sure helps me a lot.
I do it like Klaatu does, I manually perform the song using the pattern. For building up a more traditional song I'd probably export the loops into Live or perhaps Auria.
Thanks for the suggestion.
Cool! I really dig your music!

I do a mixture...live muting and playing is one method, if you are really brave you can use the dice to change pattern mid performance
Exporting to Audioshare and then importing into blocs wave (you can then use the scenes in blocs wave to get your song architecture), I'll also incorporate blocs wave loops while doing this...and then also onto Launchpad from blocs.
I have also exported the stems and used cubasis to arrange them....scenes would be great, but until then you need to create a new project for each section of your song (if you are using all 8 tracks that is.)
I have also run it linked to blocs wave, having one section of the song in blocs and the other in Groovebox, load them both in AUM and you can use mutes in AUM to swap sections, you can also use launchpad in this as a third section, and still just use AUM to swap between them. (You can in fact use this method with any apps)
