DM2 Update: Drone Machine

OK, so it's a little bit late in Brooklyn, so I'm sure it's me…. But I would exercise caution when trying to figure out the new "drone machine" feature in the DM2 update. It promises joy for "space rock fans" — all I got was chaos and a panicked look from the dog.

  • Same! Phew. I thought I was doing something wrong lol

  • It's getting late over here too. And I have a very large dog who's easily spooked. Going to check back in the come the morning and see who managed what...

  • Same here. Was expecting a space Lullaby but instead my headphones attacked me. DEFINTELY use caution with headphones on. It's not good.

  • I don't have a dog... But yeah, not as interesting as I'd hoped... Unless there's something I'm missing. That cat doesn't seem to care, regardless.

  • Perhaps some presets should be included. I can't imagine that the developer intended this update to sound so awful.

  • I haven't got DM2, but all this talk of horrible drone noise has got me interested. Come on, let's hear it then.

  • Doubt I'll be able to get any updates sat afloat the Ranworth Broad but yeah, chaotic noise, bring it on!

  • This has got to be the most horribly misguided idea for an 'update' I have ever heard. DM1 at least allows a nice variety of sonic choices, but DM2- an app I rarely used is now getting a permanent boot off my iPad.

  • I dunno what you guys are all up in arms about. You made me re-download the app to check it out, now I'm gonna go to sleep with the Unity Kit in Drone Mode. Makes me feel all warm & fuzzy. Like I'm in a motel and dozing off to the buzz and hum of the ice machine next door.

Are you a resident of Twin Peaks? ;)

  • My cat looked suspiciously at me,
and I had to use a whole box of tuna to settle his nerves after my DM2 drone-war test

  • Almost killed my ears.

  • Let's hear it

  • Ok here you go:

Sounds great to me, I want to buy it now.

  • I like it, opens up cool new possiblities

  • Yes it's not bad, good for making machine noises. Nice for a freebie.

This is not what I'm getting. All I get is a horrible hissing. Must be doing something wrong?

Maybe it's hard to get the same effect without a fully mapped MIDI controller.

  • Definitely not what I'm getting either. The video helps but some guidance from the dev would be appreciated. I thought it would be along the lines of the new Elastic Drums synth drones -- that you could have a drone within the beat. But this seems to be either beat or drone.

That last sentence was initially rendered by Siri as: But this seems to be your bitch or drown.

    Which seems significant to me.

Could be. Like forum friend Doug, I am a midiot. :/

  • Yeah...just the horrible noise happening here, which I immediately ran through Pumphouse and Replicant 2, and got some interesting sounds. Which, admittedly, says more about the effects than the source.

  • You just need to do some work, best to turn them all down in the mixer and start one by one adjusting the drums page. It's an interesting sound design resource. Yes adding replicant is great :)

Yes - tried this last night and got similar crappy sounds (not sure how those better sounds happened on the video). Maybe I'll try pairing it with Fugue Machine or something else and see what happens.

  • And still no fix for this annoying clicking when playing the kickdrum on my ancient iPad 2. Sounds like a DC Offset to me...
    Anyone else having this Problem?

  • This is the most annoying "new feature" I have ever seen.

So much so it is actually funny!

I can see a bassline type thing like Funkbox.

    But a freaking noise siren?

Do developers ever ask what their fans and users actually want for upgrades?

Rhetorical. Yes, I know some do. Some.

  • I figured it required trying out some of the kits, but I can't download any of the other kits anymore. It only takes me to either dropbox or icloud to download them... and there's nothing there. Tried re-installing it too. Haven't used this in awhile, but it seems like you used to be able to load a bunch of different kits before.

  • Watson.....Watson.....come back........don't go.........WATSONNNNNNNN
