  • Finally got something weird, in a good way, by loading the Mustang Kit as a starting point.

You've still got a pro don't you? I'm curious... how are you loading up the kits? When I hit "drum kit" then "load", I get a list of kits, but if I click on one to "import kit", I only get the option to choose "Upload from: Drives or Itunes Folder".

Seems like I used to just select a kit and it'd load. Now it doesn't.

All I'm doing is tapping Drums, then selecting Drum Kit, and then Load. Logically, you 'd tap import next, but if you have the Drone running it seems that whatever kit you have selected is loaded anyway. Then I just go back to Drums and the controls are active again.

Ahh! I see. You just select the kit and it loads. There's not another command to actually "import/load". I get it. Yeah, victim of following that ol' bugaboo "logic" I reckon. ;) thx

Good to know. I was thinking that this "update" was sort of a passive/aggressive move on the developer's part.

  • Make sure the volume is turned down. Try solo for various parts of the kit in a song and then try adjusting various controls for the different parts of the kit until you get something of interest to you.

  • Did get the Drone going....and yes fx help....but it's not playable in any useful way (for me). I think the tuned ice-machine is a good thought....but can imagine some folks will get mileage out of it. Not the greatest debut tactics from the dev, but, hey, it's their circus....

  • Just watched the video all the way through. I guess what leaves me scratching my head is that it's such a prominent feature that optimally involves a mapped midi controller and has a somewhat limited utility. The button "DRONE" is just as big as the "DRUM" button - every bit as prominent.

Hmmm, I want to make a basic track. Should I pick "DRUM" or "DRONE"?

I dunno what you guys are all up in arms about. You made me re-download the app to check it out, now I'm gonna go to sleep with the Unity Kit in Drone Mode. Makes me feel all warm & fuzzy. Like I'm in a motel and dozing off to the buzz and hum of the ice machine next door.

Are you a resident of Twin Peaks? ;)

    Probably should be

It's not a bad idea it's just that SoundScaper kinda kills it without even trying. Mind you, soundscaper is a beast so no contest really.

DM2 is a great groovebox though. I'd love more automation as I don't really get on with elastic drums' sound engine,

    SynthScaper as well.

Does anyone know if DM2 has a CC list available?

There are some very fine sounds on both sides of the drum/drone conflict.

    I'd like to hear that.

I was really hoping that the next update would have allowed for seperate midi learns per track. That would have been a quantum leap forward for it. Right now DM2 is ok for tinkering but combined with something like KRFT it could have been amazing for performance.

  • Just seen Doug's review of this, and it still sounds like the Klangers get rendered to GITMO.

  • Here it is in all its glory....well

  • I feel it should be enebled per track rather than the whole kit. I don't see how I'd want to use it in its current form. Also the volume seems to increase drastically when drone is on which isn't practical at all. Hope they will keep working on it.

  • I like the perversity of this being a feature in a drum machine.

Yes per track, now that would be very useful

    Saga - Wind him up!

Good video Doug, I was more impressed when it was in drum mode, but nice to hear the drone update - I'm guessing putting this through a few FX would liven things up a bit.

  • Ok, after the initial confusion on how this works I actually think this is a cool update. It is an effort to differentiate and add value and that is a great approach to have.

    +1 Agreed! :)

  • Yes it's a nice addition. But adding some fx and modulation is important, it's just drone noise after all. So I recommend apps like Replicant which can add some rhythmic pulses.

Ha you got it Mr Monz, from the Worlds Apart album, it was the album after that called Heads Or Tail when they went DX7 mad, I think my favourite track from Worlds is Times Up, best use of a PPG Wave ever

  • played around with it some yesterday and some today, I would suggest muting all but one track in the mixer window and then experimenting just to get a better idea of what it does exactly, then adding more. Starting with 9 tracks is chaotic till you get a grip of what it does, lol. Actually you can get some interesting sound from just one or two tracks. My cat is definitely looking at me like " What the hell are you doing?" lol

    Yes!

  • Something I did notice is that the pan for each drum doesnt seem to have any effect in drone mode, I think it would make for more interesting drones if some of the sounds could be panned.
