  • Just discovered this flawed, unfinished, unwanted piece of crap is sitting in my memory totally without my permission...I'm completely exasperated with the repeated arrogance of this company....I own my ipad - I decide what I do with it! Not any more.. I'm just borrowing it ,it seems, big brother makes the decisions !
Im expecting an order anytime soon directing me to install it or face summary execution.

  • sorry for double....getting errors too !

  • It also seems there is no way to delete this unwanted data per i-fun, i-explorer or something like this. Thank's for this thread. Perhaps a bit harsh but i can't believe such things. I def. cancel my order now (or resell it for a better price ;) I will try to show apple my back as long as i can. The love/hate thing i always had with apple products is going to be more hate finally! And perhaps a longer break from making music is not bad for me. Please Android (or whatever) free me from this golden cage soon.
    Just my 2 cents!

May not be the time or the place,....but,pad5 rumoured to have 2gb of ram.

What to do?...apple has got me by the plums.

  • It's 2013. Chrome does this. Firefox does this. Windows does this. It's meant as a convenience. A little weird on a platform with sometimes little storage space but there's nothing odd or draconian or "we know better" about this.

@Simon: You make good points but I think the issue here is that the downloaded iOS occupies a load of valuable disk space, which can be crucial on a 16GB machine. iOS musicians are wise not to upgrade until the new offering is proven to be stable and compatible with all used apps. For Apple to 'steal' such a significant amount of disk space from users (however temporarily it turns out to be), without notice, choice or permission is extremely heavy-handed.

Having said all that, I could swear that the same situation applied when iOS6 was introduced and I don't remember a fuss being made then.

EDIT: Maybe I'm mis-remembering that it was the same with iOS6.

  • So now I got it on my iPad4 too!I'm happy with Audiobus on OS6.1.3 and I'm using it partially
in my studio business!!!I don't wanna be part of a virtual (or not so virtual?) North-Corea or
China!I'm the owner of MY iPad and I wanna decide what I do download and what I don't!
I do love Auria and some of my synth-apps together with Audiobus, but now I'm thinking about
quitting this...I'm german and we know what can happen if you don't say NO in the first
minute.I hope ,I don't wake up tomorrow with iOs7 installed on my iPad because Apple
decided it to be better for my life.

@syrupcore: You're right! Also the note3 says 3gb ram but you have just about 2,6 and the galaxy s4 with 16gb space has just about 9! for the user etc...etc... i also had no problem for minor updated but a major update which takes up to 3 gb space on an device where you can use just 13gb of space just SUCKS! Others are not really better i know :( Perhaps i'm just an old fart but i don't like this "features"! ;)
The really bad side is if you now reboot your idevice it will install automatic iOS 7... not 6.... dooh!

Is that definite? I really, really hope not :(

Editied to credit Galaxyexplorer, instead of syrupcore.

  • @Washboy: I wrote this. I meant a "recovery" sorry my bad english. And not 100% sure yet! Who wants to try? I'm now on iOS 7.0.2 and sadly there is also no way back to iOS 6 (which was easy in the past).

  • @syrupcore Windows absolutely doesn't do this. If you have the right settings in update you are always given the choice on which updates to download. As for chrome etc. we are not talking small browser updates here but a complete operating system needing 3 gigs! The internet is full of horror stories about this pile of junk. My wife has it on her ipad & absolutely detests it. What happened to my freedom of choice.
Appalling heavyhanded arrogance. 2013... more like 1984!

  • edited September 2013

Oops! Sorry, Galaxyexplorer. I'm relieved you're not 100% sure yet. No, I don't want to test it out though! LOL

  • Sounds like a few ipad trade ins are on the cards, I hear the Blackberry has Animoog.

Not sure what their OS upgrade policy is though.

CEX is pretty good for trading in older obsolete models for a fair price.

  • Thanks Dave but have given my ipad to the dog to chew & gone back to Ableton on PC .. where the real musicians are :)

  • Nice to see Mr Ives attention to detail coming to good use.not only are those smoothed edges good for forcing stuff down our throats, they also make for a good frisbee....fetch fido:)

  • woof... but will it blend ?

  • jsb wrote: "2013... more like 1984!"

Oooh that's one under Apple's belt!
Remember the 1984 Superbowl ad announcing the Mac? lol, the times they are a-changing...

  • I use my ipad for music stuff only,so I did not update. My wife has ios7 on her ipad now,
and besides all the technical issues I dislike this " cheap warehouse advertisement" design
under ios7.Didn't anybody tell those guys in apple's design department not to take those
    light green pills too often?

  • This doesn't affect me, but I do think it's pretty ordinary. And yes, it may make one want to boycott the brand, but then I think about whether or not other tech corporations are any better? Maybe they don't do things like this, but none of them are beacons of ethical behaviour.

For many of us, it comes down to how much you want the convenience of a mobile music platform versus how willing you are to put up with sneaky stunts like this. For me there is no other option right now. Not even a desktop alternative. So Apple it is.

    @jsb lol

I just wish I could get my Ableton rig outside and onto my sunlounger :)

  • Gentlemen, it's been such a nice ride with all of you on here til now, I personally really don't think what is happening with the "automatic download" of ios7, is in any way meant that way, I believe it' s somekind of a bug going on. I do understand this is really nerving, but please everybody calm down a little and not start flamewaring now, it' kind of desillusioning for me, especially in this forum. By the way, none of my devices has downloaded anything automatically, on Iphone4, Ipad2 and Ipad4 there is simply the pop up, informing me about the possibilty of downloading this new ios, which I chose not to do, until it is more stable concerning the audiostuff. Let's just breathe for a while and not assume the worst rightaway..., thanks, cheers everyone, animal

  • If you've got a problem with this please contact Apple about it. I mean it's probably nice to vent here but this doesn't do anything.

I don't agree with the practice of auto-downloading the OS to devices taking up huge chunks of it's available space. Think about if Microsoft downloaded a 50 gigabyte update to a 250 gigabyte hard drive without asking users's permission.

  • what's the best route to conatact apple directly?

  • iOS 7.0.2 was waiting on my iPad 4 Software Update screen but it did not automatically download although I'm on iOS 7. Yesterday I had a message which said I needed more than 875mb to upgrade to 7.2. I found some space on my 16GB iPad but 7.0.2 was only a 21.1mb download file. I am a guinea pig for Apple so I'd upgraded on the first day and my iDevices are running much more smoothly than ever before, more snappier and better all round performance than iOS 6. For me, iOS 7 is the much better OS although I do appreciate some people want to stay on iOS 6 for personal and professional reasons. Still, I'll take Apple over Android where almost all devices are. DOA.

This is what I have here:

iPad 3 - Install (already downloaded) (why Apple???)

iPad 4 - Download and Install

Certainly I won't install this till ALL bugs are corrected and ALL my apps are said to be working ok. Not even half of them are updated for iOS7. Part of my work and money depends on them. This is something Apple should think about - not only amateurs and children play with those things, iOS music is in a professional state now and should be treated as such by the main company.

  • @FRibeiro weve been shafted... should've read the small print....
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4623

"Available updates download automatically if your device is connected to Wi-Fi and a power source."

  • The small print always gets you. There's probably a clause in the user agreement that nobody ever reads that says we owe Apple $50 for complaining.

  • @sebastian you're right,but who IS apple.I only get to the apple-store,where I can buy a lot of
    things.
    @fribeiro+++
@cheesesteak don't wake up sleeping monsters! You probably forgot the rest of the numbers?
    xx.000,-
