On the negative note Circuit is as buggy as hell. There’s tiny audio dropouts everywhere (especially with phaser) and the audio generally has a rather dirty character to it. Circuit definitely colours the sound which actually is quite cool.

Ah, and that start button, mmm can’t tell how many times I got a stab instead of starting the session. I might look into hooking up my pedal board via midi in to start and stop it.

My issue has been happening since day one, but never repeatable enough for me to raise a warranty issue with Novation. There’s a lot of people with the same issue on the Circuit group on Facebook, Novation is aware of it surely.

Strangely, I never experienced this issue until the recent 1.6 update and now it's happening frequently. :(

  • I remember the start button was driving me crazy. It was double triggering quite often on non soft hits...

Haha, yeah. Exactly the opposite from what you'd want. The more frustrated you get, the harder you bash. The harder you bash....

  • Never happened to me, but I am still on one of the first OS's.

So judging from all the responses there is a case to be made to Novation about this potentially being a software issue. I’ll try to poll it out on the Circuit FB page.

When I contacted Novation about my start button, they told me there was a hardware issue with some units. If you can reliably show your's has this problem, they will replace it under warranty. It's definitely not a software issue, people have been having issues with this since the Circuit was first released with OS 1.0.

  • What is this problem? I’ll have to dust mine off and remember how to power it up and see if mine is problematic.

Still my favourite ever Circuit video!! :)

    Hahaha. That’s brilliant.

  • I think @Tarekith you might be onto something. Here's the result of the FB circuit owners group

Just that sometimes you press the Play button and playback doesn't actually start. Or it starts and stops right away like you pressed it twice.

Interesting. Mine seems okay, and I’ve just tried many attempts at fudging it and flubbing it and otherwise being ambiguous about whether or not I’m pressing it properly or at all. Seems fairly determined and definite here.

In the olde days of electronics, we would design switch circuits to have a hardware debounce circuit, such as a monostable stage which no matter how many times it is retriggered during a preset time constant, it’ll still register as one transition. This moved from hardware to software but along the way had to take into account the whole system and hardware and software interrupts and suchlike. It could be to do with software debounce if it turns out it is version-sensitive. Alternatively, it could be something as simple as a physical design flaw that allows dust to eventually build up in that one corner of the keypad, exposing it to intermittence. Having said that, the headphone jack is not over there in that corner in question, but here in the left corner, so maybe that theory has to go bang.

  • Ok, so here's another question

Do you guys get a similar behaviour with playing pads?
I do and been wondering whether there indeed was a batch of faulty units as @Tarekith has suggested. I'd see no reason why would they be different type of switches. It would be an immense improvement in a live situation but I guess not so much in a studio.

I’ve had mine since initial release. IMHO, it’s from the update, not anything faulty.

  • How do I check version on mine (I haven’t updated for a while)?

Hmmm, curious if the problem is within certain tempo/swing ranges or something. I have never had this.

Just press the play button, if it plays for a second like a false trigger and then stops, there you go.

  • Just ordered mine today hope it’s a good batch!

  • Anybody using an X-Station with their Circuit?

I've been working on 4 X-Station templates to control Circuit, (Synths 1, 2, Drums, and Matrix) and it's a super fun combo.

It's also a really nice and easy connection.

    • X-Station connected to AUM via Bluetooth (Yamaha MD-BT01)
    • Circuit into AUM via CCK
    • Use AUM matrix to link them.

    Super super fun! :)

Crazy busy with work, but hope to finish the Templates off next month and maybe do a vid. Anybody interested in the X-Station templates, just let me know.

Not X-Station but I created some for the Remote 25, I can imagine the X-Station being pretty good with the labelled
controls....the templates for the LaunchControlXL are also pretty good, and i also discovered that the Mininova works pretty well as a synth editor for circuit too.

I know if you start up in bootloader mode the lit pads indicate the version, however it is some sort of code and I don't know how you interpret it.

Mine arrives today, quick question can you save more than one session on the actual device or does everything need backing up to the cloud via laptop? If you can save more than 1 session how do you recall it as you can’t name it and how many sessions fit on the device in memory?

There are 32 sessions on the device, one under each pad. How you use these is up to you, I am currently using 2-3 sessions per track. When you save the session on the device you can choose the pad colour, and can use this for grouping sessions together.

Backup DOES require use of laptop, but there is also a stand-alone version of the Components software that doesn't require the cloud.

Thanks Andy for that, yes I seen the App that accompanies the nova synths if that is what you are talking about.

You will need to use components from Novation https://global.novationmusic.com/components/home
There are both web based and stand alone versions of components.
The editor is just for the synths, and is part of the components suite but created by Isotink. You will need to use components itself for backup/restore, transferring samples to the circuit and for Firmware upgrades.
