I recently watched the Netflix documentary on him that runs about 4 hours long. At first I thought, who needs a 4 hour doc? Planned on having it on in the background - but I ended up watching 90% of it and came away with a much bigger appreciation of him. He had a lot of great songs and remained relevant over a long period of time.
Some reports are now saying they pulled life support.
I've seen him live twice. Once here in Austin, and another time at the Hard Rock in Vegas. Great talent.
However, I don't know if this is true... but I'd read he'd never really kicked smack after being addicted in the 90's. No experience with heroin overdose, but can't it cause cardiac arrest?
yes it could and does... but wasn't Petty also a lifelong smoker (started when he was 16 or 17) ? He was 66 years old - his time was probably just up.
Blimey only 66, what a shame. Top musician.

I don't agree with the prince + bowie thing. He was a good ol southern boy who wrote incredible tunes. But who cares about the comparisons, this is one of my heroes dying, and it's a bummer.
