Please report any issues you have ASAP, because I will be doing a bug fix release to this in the coming week. Some of you have already come out of the woodwork, please continue to do so! Feel free to contact me directly at [email protected].

  • I had an AB3 glitch this morning. I loaded TJ as a MIDI receiver and troublemaker as a MIDI sender and put the MF randomizer filter in between. All good jamming around with that. Then I tried to add the TJ midi filter and it immediately stopped the audio playback. I ejected the filter but it still would not play audio. I ejected TJ as a generator and reloaded it but it returned an error in AB.

  • ThumbJam is a gem that never even went away. This update is exceptional!

Where did you add the midi filter, to another chain, or the same one that TJ was already a part of?

  • This is superb news.

But now i think there is a need for AB3 to allow each channel or midi port to be renamed if desired.

    Same one.

  • Quality app, quality update. Good work!

  • What does TJ do as a midi filter?

Nice upgrade!! TJ as an AB3 midi sender is sweet! Thank you so much for the upgrade.

@sonosaurus, I did have one issue on first upgrading. The menus for Sound, Edit, etc. weren’t working. They would only half appear, but you couldn’t touch any of the controls - any presses went straight to the keyboard. iPhone 7 iOS 11.0.1. Uninstall and reinstall fixed it. So no problem here - just an FYI.

Someone else reported that weird thing, I’d never seen it before! I’m glad reinstalling fixed it but I wish I knew what was happening because that’s a painful procedure if you have a lot of customizations/recordings.

What does TJ do as a midi filter?

Currently it is a filter dedicated to the scale lock feature, so incoming midi notes will be changed to only notes in the currently selected scale in the app. It can use adjacent white keys as input or chromatic input (depending on setting in Prefs->midi control).

  • Yeh. I feel bad for not at least doing a few screen shots, or trying rebooting. I was itching just to try it out, and felt like I only had forgettable stuff in there.

Oh man that is so awesome! I am amazed at the number of scales TJ already has, and I just tried it with a scala file I shared from Wilsonic. It seems to work for those too, so now AB has a scala midi filter. I freakin' love ThumbJam!

When you’re recording loops in the app, it says it’s recording from the mic input. It there a setting to record the samples played directly instead of mic input? Or, am I misreading that?

Edit: when messing with the mixer in the looper, doesn’t sound like it was external mic input, so I think I’m just misunderstanding what the mic input means in this context

Hit the Loop tab in the upper right corner and you will find the Record Loop button on the pop-up menu, as well as general loop management buttons.

Yes, I know that. I've recorded lots of loops, etc. But, I just noticed that after you've armed it to record, it says it's recording from the mic. That implies that it's recording from the external mic and not necessarily the "mic input". However, I just listened to all fo my loop samples from a quick session, and if it was using the external mic input, the loops would sound overdubbed. But, they don't... so it must be using the mic input and not the external mic.

I'd already edited my original question with this finding. It has to do with a confusion between external mic and mic input.

There’s a good chance it’s just showing the wrong text for that when using input from AB ( which I assume you were in this case). I’ll check it out.

No, I was using it stand-alone. Wasn't loaded into anything. When I listen to the loops via the sample mixer, they all sound like they're supposed to and aren't over-dubbed, so it's just a confusion on my part assuming "recording from mic" meant that it was recording my loops from the external mic. The behavior shows they're indeed getting recorded internally.

A zillion scales but no plain ‘ol Aeolian mode? Easy to add, but odd.

You could spend a life exploring all these scales.

It has minor though... but yeah super easy to make your own scales. I made some to match moods from Pianoscaper and Moodscaper for some relaxing jam sessions.
