Xequence - Midi import?

Is there a way to import a MIDI file into Xequencer?

  • @dvlmusic: Not currently, but planned for the near future (2-3 months probably) as well as MIDI file export.

  • Awesome - not a deal breaker but good to know it's in the works

Same here. For now I’m happy for the simplicity and great UI. Really helps concentrate without distractions.

  • @SevenSystems I might have missed this. Is the midi import in yet?

  • not yet still waiting on the update... soon I think

Is there any app in iOS that can handle midi imports. Ugggg. BM3 is a cluster. Auria does it well but man I would pay like 100$ for Xequence to have that today. LOL.

  • Having paid full price and then the IAP only to find basic functionalities missing, midi import, multi channel record.

I’d be pretty peeved if they were then rolled out as IAP.

Not that the dev has suggested that. Looks like it should be included in a free update after Link has been sorted.

Midi import works in Modstep, but there is usually some cleanup required afterwards.

  • On iPad I’m using Cubasis. I love it as it automatically separates the midi channels and auto assigns instruments for me. I love that!

On iPhone I use Xequence as there’s nothing better and it will only get better :)

The first time I opened a Chordbot midi file in Cubasis I was speechless. So perfect. Just like you described it. :)

  • Yeah and then now we can use AU instruments so even more cool!

    Hey,
Xequence looks like the simple sequencer I've been waiting for.
I often use Gadget but it def lacks some basic midi editing features, like quantize after recording, flip, invert, etc...

But... It seems xequence has no midi export? Damn :/
How do you send the work you do with xequence to your computer DAW? I'm so used to sending midi sequences I write via dropbox or email these days.

@stelvio: We're currently working on MIDI file import, next we'll add MIDI file export as well, so you'll be sorted shortly. Expect a timeframe of maybe 3-4 weeks, if you can wait a bit. Both will be a free update. Thanks! :)

Edit: As a workaround, you could always connect Xequence to your computer via MIDI, sync your DAW up via Ableton Link, and then just record the MIDI in realtime, which should work reasonably well.

  • @SevenSystems thanks for the quick answer, I can wait for sure!
thank you for the neat work! Cheers.

  • This app progression has been a joy to watch.

Sneak peek at the next update, due in January :) Screenshot straight after importing a sample MIDI file from Wikipedia.

    NEW:

    • MIDI File Import: Import type 0, 1 or 2 standard MIDI files, including program changes, controllers and track titles, with various options and automatic creation of tracks and instruments.
    • Global Clipboard: Parts from any number of tracks can be copied and pasted (either linked or independent) between arbitrary tracks and song positions, or even between different projects. Extremely smart and robust handling of linked parts and track assignment.
    • ...and more :)
  • This is awesome!!! Thank you @SevenSystems !!!!

  • The user and all related content has been deleted.
  • Loving this App and the Developer is pretty cool too B)

    Thank you SevenSystems

Awesome. I’ve not used the app since release day as this is the feature I bought it for, so I’m happy to see this coming soon! Thanks. :)

This sounds excellent. Are there any limitations or can any parts be transferred between projects?

  • @SevenSystems
    YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is what I've been waiting for. Have 15 or so tunes I want to get into Xequence and I don't want to recreate them manually. So sweet - in all truth, if there's ANYTHING I can do to help keep this moving forward... I'm a good beta tester!

    Honest.

    I am.

    Really.

    Truly.

    No foolin'.

    Please?

    Pretty please?

    With sugar on top?

    And a cherry?

Nuts too - must have nuts...

You can select any number of parts on any number of tracks in one project, and paste them into the other. From the in-app help:

The clipboard can be used to copy and paste parts, even between different projects. Parts on the clipboard will be pasted at the current song position and to their original track(s) if they are from the same project, or, if they are from a different project, to the selected track (and below, if several tracks are on the clipboard). If there's not enough tracks available, they will be created.

Thanks, we're seriously thinking about creating a closed beta-test group, as the app's complexity and the abundance of combinations of devices, iOS versions, connected apps etc. is really growing out of the scope of in-house testing. I'm adding you to the list of potentially interested users. :)

Yeah I always get the "Mixed Nuts" (green) from Lidl and eat them a handful a time ;) (No foolin'!)

  • Excellent! Thanks @SevenSystems Also very willing to help with testing. Have TestFlight a/c. Let me know where I can send you my info. Cheers.

    I miss my Peckham Lidl...

  • @gusgranite I can recommend New Ross Lidl with the authentic Irish red-haired witch at the till :)

Great. It's only 4,350 miles away. Well worth the trip for the savings and the entertainment then.

  • This is not related to MIDI so pardon me for briefly hijacking the thread.
I have a suggestion for you if possible, it seems like it would be easy to do. Would it be possible to make the black boxes on the left side under each track (with M, S, +, gear) be the same color as the track they are attached to? I’m not particularly OCD but for me the way it is now it’s a little visually confusing.

    Thanks
