  • I'll be 36 this April. I was about 7 when I convinced my mom to buy my first synth (a small 49 key Yamaha). Started taking classical piano lessons by 8. Played all the way up to High School when sports took priority.

    About 8 years ago my brother introduced me to Reason. My interest in music was revived. Since then I've moved onto Ableton and Cubase. Most recently (a year ago) did my interest in iOS music creation begin, and here we are today.

    One thing I appreciate about this group is the level of respect everyone gives here. You don't see arguing and complaining here. Everyone brings input and advice that is relevant to each discussion. I think the age demographic has something to do with that.

    Hi my name is Tyler and I am 27. I really am a newbie at this so I don't have much input. I do however find myself constantly checking the forum, oohing, awing, and smiling because of the tips, tricks, and comradery.

    @noisyninja
    Wow your bio sounds eerily similar to my own! I have played in bands and produced low-fi home recordings since high school. I too am just getting into the fascinating wold of synths and ios music production....and excluding most of it ($) from my significant other.

    @funjunkie27
    Perhaps we will cross paths, I also live in Atlanta!

    Anyways I've learned so much here and I really appreciate this incredible community. Thank you!

  • Cool @TGiG....we need more iOS music representation around here. I'm down in McDonough. How about you?

  • @funjunkie27 Indeed, I agree. I'm in Atlanta proper, Renyoldstown to be exact.

  • I found myself sitting in the chair, read this thread and smile for myself about all of us :-)
    Its really one of my top10 sites....
    By the way im climbing 40 in a month. Living in the middle of germany @ odenforrest and make music for over 20years...

  • Ahh...over my five points...right @TGiG? Been there for many shows at the Variety Playhouse.

  • @funjunkie27
    Yes. Many wonderful venues and a great music scene!

  • Hi I'm new here. I'm 30.

    I just noticed this thread. I'm 79. I started my career at a place called Lococo's in Manhattan Beach California in the 60s playing drums. I remember anxiously waiting for a four track cassette to come out. I couldn't believe I was going to have such a thing. I taught myself keyboards and started playing synthesizers. I have purchased many synths over the years. A couple years ago I bought GarageBand for my iPad. I couldn't believe what I had just bought for five dollars. Then I couldn't believe the iOS music apps that started to appear and get better and better. I have all the top synth apps and the top effects apps and three or four DAWS and all kinds of apps that offer new ways of creating and making music. I don't use my $3000 Korg synthesizer that I bought in the 90s anymore except to midi play $5 and $10 apps that are remarkably better in every way. To me all these wonderful incredible IOS music apps are basically free.

  • @ marlow77 – ha! I had that same gear exactly (I won the flying V in a poker game).

    I am 59 and retired from the music business, but not retired from loving to make music and loving music tech. I've been a guitarist and a synth fan since the '70s. I got to play a lot of great synths owned by various studios, but only ever owned one —a Roland analog synth, though I honestly can't remember the model. Thanks to iOS and AB, I've got more "gear" today for a few hundred dollars than I did in the 80's with a $30,000 home studio —that's why this old fart loves iOS so much!

  • 57 in about a week. Time flies when you're having fun! :D

    ^^^ this!

  • 42 here. It somehow makes sense most of us are over 35 (kids and families). In my case having a kid pushed me towards more portable and hassle free music making solution like an ipad, mini keyboard, ukulele. Making grooves on a shitter doesn't sound like such a crazy idea anymore!
    I've been playing guitar and singing/songwriting since I was 16. Had couple of original bands since I moved to Oxford UK. First started with electronic music back in Italy on an old Elka synth and a roland tr707 tracked on an old tascam tape. Then moved through Korg D16 16track digital to first windows computer with Reason and Cubase combo. After that switched to OSX with Logic, then Ableton. I've used my host of hardware like korg electribes, kaossilator pro, kaoss pad, novation k station, x station etc but eventually ended up using ipad mostly for practical reasons (hate tangled cables and computer mouses).
    I've been mostly playing ipad as a main instrument for a few months now but really miss acoustic music and interaction so I'm getting a band together soon. On the other hand really love the versatility and the touch factor.

  • Haha, just noticed Depeche Mode cropped up a few times. I bought an emu sampler at some point because of them! Stopped listening to DM since music for the masses and never looked back since. Still kinda appreciate the songwriting though
