Oh boy,I just realized I sparked a great discussion stemming from an absurd comparison.
@Audigus, yiuve just inspired me to dig deeper into BM3 ! It seems I see so much complaining about it on other threads .

It gets regular fantastic updates so the complaints may or may not be relevant anymore. 90% of my initial issues with it have vanished in the first three months. To me the devs are among the most dialed in and proactive (tied with KRFT) that I have seen on iOS. Good times ahead!

  • @AudioGus
I'mma need to see a workflow video, or I'm going to start to doubt your BM3 True Zealot™ status.

With WB you have a nice result after 15 minutes. With BM3, you have a better result but after 15 hours (at least for me)

    15 minutes for a finished song ?

15 minutes on WB and 15 minutes more just to add basic drums and I did this

    Good stuff.

So Werkbench isn't just record and trigger, there is some kind of sequence AI guide ?
I think i may have watched a really outdated video of Werkbench or something, it seemed to just be steps in a sequencer that you could record to, I apologise.

the recording process is unusual, WB can distribute the momentary sample directly to several arbitrary sequence positions.
The copy sample drag is instantanous and an empty slot drag can be used to clear, smart.
But the fun starts with parameter changing of tune, evelope, filter etc which can turn the original sounds into very different (and inspiring) things.
Controls work smooth and efficiently and the output is often surprising in a cool way.
The focus is clearly on workflow, not on features.
SamplR is a similiar app in this sense of app specific mode of operation that 'just works'.

  • Good synopsis .. That’s what I was thinking , Telfunky

Nice work. Most of mine have been fun but kind of chaotic. This has a very nice groove to it.

  • Seriously, three pages on this topic?

  • Hell yeah!

  • I will check that out, as that will be interesting. Thanx for the link.

Workbench is a simplistic sampling stepsequencer, more like a toy really...is it fun...yes...is it serious, not so much.

I agree with what you wrote, but ultimately it's the artist, not the tools. Check out Justin Walter's use of Werkbench. He can play everything on this album live -- and does -- and has no need for a DAW:

BM3 is getting angerously close to being the best Sampler w/sequencer of all times

and we are only in version 1. ;)

I know it competes with the mpclive pretty hard, beats it in quite a few areas...
Just not in sound...the same samples bang harder out the mpc...there are folks that say it isnt so...but they are wrong.

  • That is good info, have you got some recordings so we can hear the MPC live vs BM3 vs original sample, would be really interested in hearing those.

Is it just a simple sample playing or is it using any of the effects or anything built in ?
