The top classic pop song that wanted to be opera

And before you say it’s just cheese, it is actually quite good. It’s okay to admit that now.

    Dead Ringer isn’t bad either...

I’ve heard someone call Meat Loaf the Orson Wells of Rock

It’s not much of a stretch to imagine him doing frozen peas and fish stick commercials.

  • Does this count?

OOh yes, this whole album – The Original Soundtrack – is one of my favourites. When I was out in Papua New Guinea as a teenager in the late 70s, this was one of the cassettes I’d bought locally (therefore and by definition pirate copied) which I used to play a lot. A lot!

That is a top album in my opinion – I’ve always been a huge Sparks fan since they released Kimono My House (which was the first album I ever bought) (first single was Bowie - Jean Genie) (second album was Sparks - Propaganda, and so on) (but second single was Ying Tong Song, by The Goons).

Sparks are up to some interesting stuff again.

I’ve always had a spot for the whole genre of ‘American bands or artists who went unrecognised in their home country and came over to the UK to receive recognition and acclaim’. I think that’s what the genre is called, anyway.

Imagine trying to get American teenage dirtbags driving around in a Camaro in the 1970s to listen to Kimono My House...
Not any easy undertaking, but I survived.

  • He showed up at the factory once and sang a little, everybody went silent and didn’t know what to say, it’s in the diaries. I don’t think he says his name, but it was Klaus.
There is so much stuff inbetween the lines of the diaries, if you „know“ the ppl you get the drift, if you read them a few times.
Definitely with balls, they killed him ..

    They certainly did
Think I have to take time to dive into those diaries

    Hm, unsure what you mean
    These screaming Orgies?
I mean I like the intention and point of view, but that stuff kills my very last nerve. I know it’s meant to do that, but not a pleasant thing to spend an evening with.

I like the traditionals and jazzy stuff she does.
    Did I miss something here?

"Dramatic vocal music" is one not unreasonable way to describe opera. So, Diamanda.
