    • Toytone (i just like the sounds i get here)

    • Yamaha Synthbook (AN1x!), FM Essential, Synth & Dr. Pad

    • Garageband (for a free multitracker not bad, isn't it?)

Thanks for the list though. I always had a soft spot for Toytone, and Figure’s an old friend.

You can get some interesting sounds out of BeepBoop:

Oh! I got it for free. Okay, then i exchange Scriptsonic with:

    • iTuttle (really amazing for a free synth)
  • I really liked iTuttle when I first got it but then it just crashed on me all the time. I was shocked at how good it sounded and that it was a full synth for free. I've just re-downloaded it - anyone else experiencing this? I am on a Pro 12.9" - used iTuttle on iOS 10 but now I'm on 11

    BeepBoop is the bleepity-bomb!

Don't expect control or presets (unless you take a screenshot) which was part of the design

  • I have been enjoying this weird, obscure app since last night:

    https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/conform/id664574539?mt=8&ign-mpt=uo=4

It doesn't connect to anything, but it is pretty fun anyway. Plus I can screen record it for some glitchy, lo-fi madness.

I didn't realise DRC was free, everyone should grab that one.

I installed Syntronik yesterday, the free version. Anyone know what is missing compared to the paid version? I keep waiting for a screen to popup and ask me to pay to unlock certain features but everything seems to work fine!

Everything in the free version is fully functional. It comes with a relatively small sampling of preset sounds. You buy more preset sounds to expand the available synth models. You can tweak the preset sounds with a limited set of parameters, but not full-on patch editing like you get in a normal synth. This one runs on samples of the original synths' oscillators in different setups, so each preset sound can only stray so far from the original through tweaking in the apps interface.

How about DRC? I thought the free version was crippled in some way, but it seems like it is just plain free and fully functional. Is this correct?

I checked DRC on the appshopper website and there is no mention of limitations or IAP. I definitely bought it during a sale and still use it regularly.

I did see that buying Syntronik gets you more presets but didn't realise that those presets also expand the sonic palette. Similarly buying expansion packs in animoog gives you extra timbres which make the app a lot more flexible. Thanks for the info!

  • For me it must be Yamaha Synthbook (wow!) and the light version of IK Multimedia Syntronik! Nice shit!

More people should be into the Sylo Synthesizer. That thing is pretty cool, but only got one mention.

    https://forum.audiob.us/discussion/22103/yamaha-visual-performer-100-free-ios-11-friendly-video-tutorial#latest

Just found out about this one earlier today. It has a synth in it too.

  • DRC is fully functional for awhile - 2 weeks? 10 days? Don't recall exactly. Then it becomes crippled unless full version is purchased.

  • I can't believe this one slipped through unmentioned!

    Nanologue
    https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/nanologue/id734323766?mt=8&ign-mpt=uo=4

Definitely one of best of the free apps.

  • Garageband iOS is not free!

Demo version is a great idea, I always assumed this was impossible! I wonder why more apps don't offer this?

I think it depends on when you activated your device. GarageBand and the rest of the iWork suite (Keynote/Pages/Numbers) have been free for quite a while now...

Yep - and I got hooked almost immediately. It's still my favorite synth, among many excellent ones.

I’m using iTuttle on the old 12,9 Pro iOS 11
No problems or crashes for me. I agree it’s an awesome synth. At least for the zero money lol
I used to gave it as my favourite idea-grinder, ready in the taskbar, for a while

Yamaha Synthboook has the excellent AN2015 inside, one of the best sounding synths out there to my ears. It has a few really nice features that other synths lack, the orb and chord pads work well for creating complex evolving sounds.

I would be happy to pay for a bit more control and I think the midi can be a bit wonky at times.

It shows up on itunes in a google search, but not in my app store. Weird!

I think you have to search under iPhone apps to see it appear, that caught me out before. For anyone with a fairly old device the synth won't be included, if I open it on an iPhone 4s it only shows the adverts and history of Yamaha stuff.

I would definitely pay for the yamaha synth if they’d release an updated iPad app with better interface and maybe AU support... still, was a very welcome find when I stumbled across it last week. Lovely sounds.

I don’t know, they may have changed it but I only got around a total of 15-20 minutes before it was crippled if I’m remembering correctly from trying it a few weeks ago. Wasn’t enough time for me to try out all the patches ; though I was definitely impressed by what I did hear.

I wish the full version was available as an app store purchase instead of through IAP only. I’m a little weary since the Camel Audio experience. If they ever leave the app store and you lose your local backup, afraid it’d be SOL.

  • Here's one for all you BeepBoop fans:

So this has recording in the menu, but says it is coming soon when you try to use it. The randomizer and evolver are pretty awesome. The touchstrip adjust whatever knob you last touched. Evolver + Hold switch is keeping me entertained for a while now. :)

Oh yeah, it has pop-up ads, so you might want to go into airplane mode when you use it

    Games count?

My 2 favorite iOS games are free ones.

    Phoenix II by Firi Games
    https://itunes.apple.com/ca/app/phoenix-ii/id1134895689?mt=8

    Punch Quest by Rocketcat LLC
    https://itunes.apple.com/ca/app/punch-quest/id554223561?mt=8

Of course both get much better with time and upgrades(free)
