MYSTERY: Crackles(iOS or app issue?)

  • I posted on the other thread. Updated from 10.3.3 last night. I’m getting the same thing. Air2, AUM, AB 3. Mad crackles when switching apps or swiping/changing volume in AUM etc. Improved when I closed Synthmaster and replaced it with Model 15.

  • So after updating to 11.1 the crackles are pretty much gone for me when switching apps in AUM. Still getting some small crackles very infrequently but that is probably just my audio buffer lagging. The major crackleyglitches are gone though.

    I am having similar issues.

I am working on some things with a developer we are testing some other aspects of the operating system.

    I will keep you posted.

After some back and forth on details of the situation, I peeked his interest and he is diving it.

Tell me what apps it happens with?

    LayR?

    Model15?

    SynthMaster?

    Gadget?

    AB2?

    AUM?

AUM & AB2 at same time?

AUM & AB3 at same time?

    AB3?

Add anything you think is relevant.

You are on iOS latest on Air2?

Do you have iPhone? Same issues there?

Just to clarify.......apps loaded into Aum on my Air 2 ( since ios 11 update ) crackle each time the app screen view is changed (inside the focused app, or selecting a new one ). Rhythm based apps are the worst offenders, Patterning being the worst of the bunch....this is often accompanied with Ableton Link's timing becoming degraded. Obviously completely useless, and un-workable. I did a complete factory re-set, and then re-installed apps one by one. While doing this i noticed that swapping AUM for Audiobus 2 solved all the problems....but........it's not my preferred working method ,so only a temporary workaround really. I have followed the issues with the other iPad models with interest, hoping to shed some light on my issues with the iPad Air 2....but this is the first time anyone has mentioned issues with this model. Changing the audio buffer makes no difference.........icon graphics are missing in apps hosted by AUM ......i am thinking that it is something to do with the graphics which is causing the issues....................Everything worked fine on 10.3.3, and still works on my ipad4 and my iPhone 5c on 10.3.3......can only assume it is an ios 11 problem.......

The missing icons was a bug in iOS 11, they fixed it in 11.1. I'm 99% sure it has nothing to do with audio glitches..

What buffer size and sample rate are you using in AUM, and in Audiobus?

Air2, latest iOS. With AUM and AB3 together and AUM stand alone. Funk Drummer, the Ice Works apps, Model 15, Synthmaster, Samplebot. So, everything I’ve tried so far. Did a hard reboot, airplane mode all the usual suspects.
At work now. Give you more later.

Apologies for my inept use of the Quote function on the forum.......i don't know how it works!!!!
This whole issue has been solved for me since the 11.1 update. Pretty sure it was related to the missing icons....although i could be completely wrong, of course! Anyway, everything Hunky Dory over here, and i have got back to being relatively productive again.........really digging the Model 15 update, that, & Dr Ohm doing wonders for my creativity........hope everyone else sorts their various software issues soon, as this platform is so much fun and inspiring when it is working properly.........best wishes to all...........

  • Oh that's cool....i do know how the Quote function works.............!!!!!!!!!

  • @RUST( i )K. In addition to what I told you earlier: I tried AB3 and AB2 both stand alone with a variety of instances and apps. Buffer size has no effect on performance. Every combination I’ve tried yielded same results. Thanks again for chiming in. I’m typically one of the last people to update. Don’t know what came over me.

I misunderstood your question. I am running on either 512 or 1024 depending on the project. Also fine on 256, but the air 2 runs more apps at a higher buffer rate........

Hi liljedah, i misunderstood your post. I am running at either 512 or 1025 in Aum, depending on the project, i'm not using Audiobus, but when i did it worked without a problem. A buffer of 256 also works, but this reduces the number of apps the Air 2 can handle, so i tend to go for a higher buffer rate. I am not recording any live audio on the ipad, so buffer rates don't really affect me, although on a desktop i try to keep the buffers as low as possible, 64 on my Ableton/win 10 machine..........
