Ableton Live 10 Coming Soon?
Seems to be around the corner based on sleuthing via SynthAnatomy.
http://www.synthanatomy.com/2017/10/leaked-ableton-live-10-is-coming-soon-new-pictures-suggest-something-new.html
So maybe Live 10 will have some kind of iOS integration?
(Which is going to throw my whole entry into hardware into doubt again, just when I was sure the Digitakt was my Christmas present, now I have to reconsider a Push 2. Woe is me.)

Wonder if we can update our 'Live Lite 9.x' to 'Live Lite 10.x' or if there will even be a 'Live Lite 10.x'?
that’s awesome, but any idea of what will be new in it? A better piano roll and more midi editing and automation controls would be nice
It has been a very long time since 9 appeared, the beta versions stopped adding new features quite a while ago so something must be on the way. It seems like MPE support is something many many users have been asking for and that would be a welcome addition
As far as iOS integration goes, if you disable 'auto warp' in settings and use link enabled apps it's very easy to record from your interface into Live and have it play back exactly what you played. Ableton export is also a great way to generate lots of Ableton projects for the finishing touches.
I am hoping since it's going to be able-ten there will be a few surprises coming!
There should be a live lite 10 if past history repeats itself, pretty sure that will be a free upgrade. If you were try to install an Ableton Lite 7 or 8 code now it will give you Lite 9 automatically.
Shouldn't it be called Able10 ?
The Digitakt looks like a great product and would play well with Ableton, especially when overbridge arrives. I have been dreaming of a push 2 myself, mainly for the very expressive pads. Something to consider is that push 1 sells for ridiculously low prices (€200ish) for what it can do and it's built like a tank! Ableton have said they will never drop support for the original Push although its been a long time since they have added new features for that device.
After almost two years on Logic, coming back to Ableton has been shocking. I’m going to be optimistic and call it “lightweight,” but let’s be honest— there are a lot of banner features they could be putting into v10 without even catching up to the competition.
However, after almost two years on Logic, coming back to Ableton is also incredibly fun. Writing new music is fun. I was wooed away by features that help you finish but I lost the joy of getting started. And when it’s not fun to get started, you don’t have any raw material to finish. So bring on v10!
That's pretty amazing, the Push 1 for that cheap. But Push 2 is a huge leap forward, isn't it?
It's more intuitive than Push 1 in some ways, that said it will take a while to get used to the workflow on either regardless of how well you know Ableton. If you big on sampling and slicing and want to never look at a computer screen then the Push 2 is going to be a great investment. If you're mainly using midi then the pads are the main difference and I'm not sure the large price difference would be worth it, especially if you already have a decent midi keyboard.
There is a controller script that gives Push 1 quite a lot of extra features, I have yet to pick it up as the original does most of what I need. More info here http://www.nativekontrol.com/PXT_Series.html
haha totally!
same here. I was o. logic for many years, and the. started watching abelton videos on youtube, and got back into it. I totally quit logic, and shifted to abelton. but I have been missing a lot of features that other Daws have been adding. To me , I would say even as powerful as abelton is, they are about 5-7 years behind the competition. I hope they step it up in 10. If not I think i’m gonna switch to Cubasis
Any idea of the upgrade pricing for 9 suite owners? Reason just turned 10 as well and I ordered a copy. Looking forward to that arriving in the mail in a few days
**If you're big on sampling and slicing and want to never look at a computer screen then the Push 2 is going to be a great investment. **
That's exactly what I'm hoping for. This is the video that made my jaw drop. (And I was hoping desperately that BM3 would do this, but so far, I haven't made it work easily.)
i’m alright with an upgrade price, and long as the upgrade is worth it
no idea what it is though
Hoping it's a bit less than the upgrade path from suite 8 to suite 9 (€249), Ableton got a lot of negative feedback on the price as newer purchasers of 8 standard were paying less to get suite 9 during the intro discount window.
Ableton 9 + Push 2 totally shook up my songwriting process for the better (much like iOS/AB2/etc did). The initial cost outlay was rough, but client work has more than justified the purchase.
I'm excited for 10, but a little bit nervous that they've got new hardware. I just want to get a couple more years out of this Push 2.
Like what? I'm curious about what awesome features ableton is missing.
There may well be a sale on Push 2 if and when 10 arrives (this type of imminent release rumour has been going around for quite a while). Black Friday might have good news too.
I was convinced they lowered Push 2 prices for a while but can't find any evidence online. I know there was a sale for Suite + Push 2 combined ($1,000) not long ago, that was good deal for new users.
I have been scouring second hand markets for a long time and these don't lose much resale value unfortunately!
There was a trade-in program for Push 1 users that lowered the price of Push 2; that's the only discount I can recall. The idea was you turn in your (great condition) Push 1 and they'd refurb it and donate it to various classrooms and educational initiatives.
https://www.ableton.com/en/push-trade-in/
I think that is what caused second hand prices on Push 1 to plummet so far and fast once 2 was announced. The trade-in discount was something like €270 and that became the standard second hand price very quickly.
This initiative from Ableton was and is a great idea and gives you an indication that they also think beyond the profit margins. Link is another gift that many of us enjoy, who needs more cables?
For anyone involved in music education for young people, there are of quite a few these Push 1 models still waiting to be claimed. I'm 99% sure Ableton also provide multi user licenses for free along with the controllers to schools/educational programs that qualify.
I don't know if there is a "Black Ops" beta team in Ableton, for Ableton Live 10, but I have just had the new beta from them(version 9.7.6b1)........ Or maybe there will be a beta for 10 soon?.......
Nothing earth-shattering but plenty of nice-to-haves. Per-note pitch correction, auto-chording (Live’s chord effect adds intervals without considering the scale whereas Logic and Reason allow you to trigger definable chords from certain sections of the keyboard), convolution reverb and analog-style delay, all sorts of MIDI transform tools... even Live’s arpeggiator is barebones compared to Logic or Reason. Of course, these gaps have been filled by free Max patches such as Schwarzonator II, Pluggo, M4L Essentials, Pitch and Time Tools, etc.
They’re focused on keeping the core program clean while building a platform for users to expand, which is a valid strategy. But M4L isn’t as stable or CPU-efficient as Live is and it’s sometimes annoying having to use plugins for tasks you can do right from the piano roll in Logic and Reason. Also, M4L adds considerable cost to an already-expensive DAW.
I should clarify how much I appreciate that the last paid update to Live was four and a half years ago. I bought Live 8 with M4L in January 2013 and got a free upgrade to Live 9 that March. Since then, they’ve invented Link, overhauled their sampler, tweaked the workflow in meaningful ways, expanded the capabilities of both Push controllers, and far more. Reason has issued four PAID upgrades in that time, only the third of which (v9) added some of the features that I’m knocking Live for lacking.
Like I said, it’s nothing earth-shattering but they’ve got plenty of options on which features to headline for the next version.
This is most definitely the case with major updates and sometimes on the in between ones that add significant features. Often beta testers do get to try new stuff first. I remember having Link early and there weren't any apps to test it with for a little while.
Whar I understood will this be a 64bits version only... shame many, many people use still unique 32bits plugins that mostly came for free.
I'm also wondering what they will do, there was a video released ages ago which definitely showed that they were busy on live 10. Think it was called meet the developers.
I think many of the stock synths and effects could use an upgrade, we got the Glue compressor with Live 9 and the Drop filter from cytomic with version 9.5 and the same developer worked on eq8 improvements. Those 2 as vst effects sell for more than €100 each so they can be very generous!
Simpler got a huge upgrade last time so they will be under pressure to improve Sampler which was the more powerful and expensive device until recently.
I totally agree that Ableton 10 needs better stock synths/presets and FX. Logic is so, so far ahead of Ableton in these regards.
They could also make it look nicer. Somehow it really turns me off graphically. Everything looks so similar and boring.
Have you tried using one of the custom skins out there? there are 50 here and they're easily to install
http://sonicbloom.net/en/sonic-bloom-ableton-live-skins-mega-pack-50-free-skins/
The sonic bloom site is a treasure trove of (mostly)free content and tutorials.
Patches is putting out very very good tutorials and content for free as well
http://patches.zone/ableton-live/
Thanks, yes I have. But somehow nothing really did the trick for me. I think I still prefer the Live 8 look overall.
