  • @Halftone I've just tested it by sending midi to it first from StepPolyArp then Beatmaker 2 and it responds well to both without the need for Midibridge or FreEWI which I have to use when I want
    To send midi to Imini.

  • @ChrisG No is polifonic and on 'voice prog' page you can set for each vice different SEM settings but you can not play 8 SEM with different tune in UNISON like the original...

@Halftone Yes works with IAA and through midi keyboard in BM2 and iMini too :-)
Mathiu have made very good job with IAA

Very nice sounding synth, no regrets about purchasing this one.

    @syrupcore

Thanks for the heads up, I was trying to figure out how to invert the mod/pitch wheels back to standard.

  • Just finished a demo vid for this..which I'll put up tomorrow..I'm lost in wicked synth land..this is so much like the original, but without the horrid tuning problems you had as each SEM drifted all over the place...a very useful synth..

@Sinapsya the prog page changes various settings like automation, one for each of the 8 voices available, one step at a time. It doesn't allow you to have 8 instances of the synth. You'll always have the 2 same VCOs and the sub. Not 16 VCOs as in that video. Playing one key and all 8 voices on that one key wouldn't make any sense unless you have the monster in the video above.

  • @ChrisG Yes you are right....but if I am Arturia I made 8 SEM like the video I have post up...Have you seen?

  • @Sinapsya Maybe when iPad 15 arrives. :)

  • @synthandson I own the original SEM from '74 and is monophonic....Oberheim for made it polyphonic (is the first polyphonic synth of all time) add one SEM per voice. Aurturia make it polyphonic...

  • Arturia made it polyphonic BUT you can detune etc.every voice. So its kinda 3/4 of an eight voice ;-)

  • Hi, this is Rolf from NLog/Nave/iSEM. Just want to say hello!

There are some demo sounds on the Arturia Website under iSEM and then guided tour. If you've some questions, please let me know. Best is to email me, since I'm not sure if I'm able to follow all this here.

There was some discussion about polyphony etc. The iSEM is a poly synth. The number of max voices is determined by the iPad generation. However, you can change that in the Settings.app to a fixed number. But don't blame me if you're overload the iPad ;-)

The iSEM is not multi-timbral, but with the mentioned Voice Programmer you can do some sort of parameter automation sequencing.

    Best
    Rolf

PS: Don't forget to write a good review in AppStore in case you like it and rate the app.

@crabman One step at a time in the prog window you mean then?

iSem is always playing the same 2 VCOs and the sub no matter how many keys/voices you can squeeze out of it.

Edit: Ah Rolf explained it all really well. :)

It's up to 16 voices even. Hm I'll just leave that on auto, iPad 2 here so I'm probably taxing it quite heavy as is.

  • @ChrisG I try a mode for UNISON...you must play chord....push any note you want and together press chord, and after any note you play chord :-)
    Beautiful....

  • Looks fantastic. You can never have too many analog synth emulators. Price is nice, too. Added to my wishlist.

  • I got a couple of crashes after switching voices. Anyone else?

  • @Sinapsya Yea the chord function is really helpful, I had to resort to the in-app manual to figure out how to use it, but it's simple and works great!

  • looking forward to picking this up tonight!

  • @nlog Make it now and take you 5 stars :-)

  • Right, so I read all this and now have to buy another bloody synth. Thanks a lot. You bastards.

  • @sickmoth ain't that the truth right there :)

  • I'll wait for Doug's vid. Honestly don't like what I've heard so far, too typically 'seventies synth' for my taste I guess...Somehow, to me, out of the three that have appeared over the last week or so, Arctic Prosynth seems to sound nicest but to be honest I'm not sure I even want yet another synth though...but the Arctic would be my pick of the three (this, Prosynth and Cube).

  • Got it! And Cube, and Arctic Pro, and WOW...
This month was heavy on the wallet huh?

This is amazing! Classic Oberheim sound! I love the way they've implemented the tools in the Voice Prog Page to make it behave like the 4 Voice and 8 Voice, with different sound possibilities for each played voice! This is what differs this synth from its "analog" fellows on iOS.

  • I think IAA from the get go nailed it for me :)

  • First impressions are good. Seven quid good, not sure yet, but bollocks - can't take it to the grave. I don't understand IAA. How does it differ to Audiobus or are the two harmonious?

  • @nlog realllllly nice work. Now please convince them to pay you handsomely to create Jupiter 8, Prophet 5 and a Matrix 12 apps. By Christmas. K, thx. :)

  • this synth sounds awesome

  • +1 for Jupiter 8

IAA is buggy at the moment but I'm not sure whether it's the apps or IOS or both, when it works as it's supposed to its sublime and intuitive, when it doesn't it's back tracking, crashing, audio dropouts, stuck in background kaos.....

I hope Apple are more dedicated to ironing out the bugs than we have seen in terms of communicating the technology to its user base.

  • Also waiting for Doug's vid but I like the look and sound of this so far. The Voice Prog page looks cool! As for other Arturia synths, I'd love an iCS80.

  • I'd love to get all of them! :-) If they release them, I'll buy them. :-)
