  • This beast....GROWLS!

  • I would like to see more developers create tutorial videos when their app is released as Arturia did with this app. This somewhat prevents the new app syndrome of opening the app and stare glazingly at all of the controls.

I need not another synth app but who am I kidding :-)

    App spendage + $9.99.

  • Some crazy bugs with ISEM, just closed it down in TT and everything is closed but arp is still playing !

Nice comparsion between the (VST) SEM and the real one (although the"modern"version).I guess it' s close enough to throw the 10 bucks at the screen :)

  • i'm torn between getting this or Arctic Keys Pro - I really like the sequencer in Arctic Keys from what i've seen and how you can set a 16step sequence and play it at different keys on the keyboard, plus the easy modulation routings in the sequencer itself - how does the iSem sequencer compare? From what little i've seen I think it works similarily... can someone explain it better for me?

  • Might be the first synth I've played with on the ipad that could unseat sunrizer for me as king of the iOS VAs but I've had a thing for Oberheim since I was a kid (I own and love my Matrix-6 and would consider trading my kid for an M12). Big congrats to Rolf and Arturia. This is magic.

  • Love it so far - only complaint, as with some other apps (iMini, Nave) is that I can't use it the filter as an Audiobus effect like I can with Magellan and Galieo! That would be amazing - an SEM filter in my iPad.

  • Filter slot would amazing. Even without the filter, the effects alone sound amazing. Running external signals through the voice programmer as a bpm based sequence would melt my face

@syrupcore Oh man, that would be beautiful. It's hard to ask for more from such a superb $10 app - and I'm glad they went with Rolf for this one. Still though, adding it as a filter in Audiobus/IAA would complete the puzzle!

  • Yummy...
I see nothing wrong with herd mentality.

  • Video should be up in about 15 minutes

  • OK video is live...I will post later..have to go out for a bit...but you can view it on the channel for now..

  • Well, you did it again, Doug...auditioned some fine presets that make me think again about this synth...much more varied than what I'd heard so far! There's a lot to like about it after all...hmmmm....

  • Wonderful sounds from this one. Has anyone else tried using IAA with a host on this? I was trying to record a track into Looptical. The IAA panel shows up in iSEM, and I can play back any pre-recorded tracks via the panel, but when I try to record an iSEM track, there is no audio. I saw that @DaveMagoo mentioned problems earlier, but not sure what other apps were used or how they were used.

@funjunkie I have recorded into Looptical. Check to make sure you haven't switched to another track other than audio. Also check audio track volume in mixer.

I've just caught it on your channel. Doug, it's so enjoyable to hear the obvious enthusiasm in your voice - well done! Oh, and Arturia ought to offer you commission [lol]

Would be nice to have a randomize button on the voice programmer page, swing for the arp and i would love if the (voice programmer) fader could jump immediately to a value/field where i touch and not grabbing the fader at their exact position first.Programming on the voice page is a little slow. But it's a great synths so far.

edit:man, this thing kills me.Just detune and pan every voice a little different and i'm sitting on cloud 7.What a beauty :)

    edit2:oh,found a biggie:chord memory is not saved with the preset?PLEASE change this,thanks.

  • I'll post this here too...this was a lot of fun and it sounds just great...

  • Great demo @thesoundtestroom!

@mgmg4871 - yes, I was in the audio track, but I didn't check the mixer. I also didn't reboot after downloading iSEM, so I'll give it another try after work this eve. Thanks for the tips.

  • Fantastic deno @thesoundtestroom. I really like the way you play a ton of sounds to really get a good feel for this I HAVE to have this!!!!

  • Yes, great demo Doug. I feel your excitement with SEM.

Does this run a dynamics/compressor algorithm thing under the hood somewhere in the chain? There are these clipping "clicks" on a lot of the sounds (it's barely noticeable, gotta listen for it), like a compressor and a limiter that can't quite keep up. Basically the same behavior as in Nave if you use the compressor and use a short or no attack on the ADSR, you'll get the same clip/click. Maybe my system is messed up, or my ears..

  • @synthhandson Thanks, but nope that's not it.

  • @chrisG definitely a few of the presets have a click at the start but I think that's from creative use of the BP filter, high resonance and the envelope.

This is the first app I've seen that supports Loopy's animated loop position icon in the AB panel (though i've been slow to update apps lately). SO GREAT!

The manual does say that you can replicate a 4/8 voice SEM via the voice programmer page. I think that's a little disingenuous in that you can replicate it in continuous mode but I haven't figured out a way to stack them. Continuous mode is amazing.

I'd like instant access to the voice programmer slider positions too. I get a lot of false hits with the drag offset. I'd also like a smaller connect/info buttons and larger tab buttons. Also also, the small poly/mono button right next to the show/hide button is a little tough. I keep hiding the controls! Also also also wouldn't mind NLog's audio+midi recorder. :) All tiny niggles. Fucking love this synth.

Another rationalization for buying synth apps: If someone said to me 5-20 years ago "I'll sell you huge sample pack of incredible SEM sounds for $10 bucks" I would have jumped all over it. And you can edit these.

  • @syrupcore Maybe. Anyway, it's not exactly a deal breaker, it's just me being curious as to what's introducing these "clicks".

  • @syrupcore Magellan & Nave also show Loopy's animated loop position marker - and I agree - Great to have this!

  • @mgmg4871 - rebooting my iPad did the trick. Life is good!

  • Your enthusiasm is infectious and some very entertaining bits in this - I love when you talked about it going out of tune! I used to have a Matrix 6 module many years ago, great sounds but I never made full use of it and so sold it. This has got to be worth £7 of anyone's money!
