Ableton Link v2

Model 15 supporting this has me thinking something new is on the way!
What could be added? Is it going to be related to the rumoured Live 10?

Somebody knows something...

  • What a time to be alive.

    new gadgets?

  • Would be great if it could sync over Bluetooth or USB as well.

  • I think swing and some types of offset would be nice to have built in. For me this would work better if it didn't apply to everything that's linked up. There are apps that have this implemented already and it's a great feature!

  • Built in reliable link to midi and midi to link would be so sweet..

That sounds likely to happen, I'm so used to using 3rd party apps for this it didn't even cross my mind.

  • Wow, that can't be a hoax! Just wanted to thank you before I go and read that article :)

I opened another topic with the link and video from Ableton yt channel. I was linking and wondering “someone will think is a rickroll... legit ” but the rewards are for the risky souls

  • So what's new in Link V2?

    • +1
  • Im a bit underwhelmed, think I had my expectations set on maximum.

The wavetable looks nice but I love the ones on iOS already. The echo seems similar to an admittedly great Max for Live pack I bought already.

The arrangement tweaks were inevitable, just hoping they don't break my normal workflow. I'm so used to the the slightly awkward ways of copying automation envelopes etc

People have been screaming for MP3 export for years so I don't have to read another thread on that!

It looks like all users get Max, that is very generous and the max for live library will be enriched with time.

I thought the capture was genius, but midi only and only on selected track. If it worked with audio I would be excited.

The biggest thing for me is saving a live set doesn't clear undo history.

Seems there is something for Push 1 users but the article is quite vague "Push 1 users get lots of little enhancements, too, though, so don’t feel left out."

This looks amazing for people that don't already have suite, I can't complain since Live works perfectly for me already but I might skip this new version and start saving for the Push 2

  • How much will Live 10 suite be if you previously bought Live 9 suite?

I'm not even sure if suite will be a thing now, max for live was the main attraction

But to answer your question, if past prices are an indication it will cost at least 200 € $ £

  • For me the upgrade offer is 199€, soon to go up to 249€

No clue and can't find any mention so far. I'm hoping the 'small improvements' hinted at but not talked about may be big news for us!

Same here, also 'upgrade to standard' is an option at €179

Didn't realise this is fully announced and on the ableton site they're clear that Max is still suite only, sorry if I got people's hopes up.

The CDM link says "Max for Live is more integrated. Bundled in Live, loads at startup."

I beleived the recorder was for audio too... but if not, there is still room for m4l device now transport is improved (we could expect new MaxApi objects). Not an actual user but as ex-freak I can see the potential.

  • anybody know what it will cost to upgrade to 10 is you are a abelton 9 standard user?

  • 18 midi effects instead of 8 is interesting, the kvr prediction thread has about 5 pages of people arguing about if a native LFO was coming!

No clue, you can login to the redesigned Ableton.com and check your options.

I'm wondering if a public beta is going to be a thing this time?

Looks like the M4L LFO Tool has been "upgraded" can handle 8 sources now.

There will be kvr war if the LFO hasn't gone native :) Life is too short, I apologise for mentioning Ableton a lot in my posts here in general. Just can't brave the constant arguments on other forums!

I'm torn now, some of the new features are pretty slick indeed. Having spent so long getting used to arrange view and using a mouse with extra mapped shortcut buttons I can fly in the timeline view. User since version 2 so it would take a while to get used to the admittedly better workflow!
