18 midi effects instead of 8 is interesting, the kvr prediction thread has about 5 pages of people arguing about if a native LFO was coming!

Looks like the M4L LFO Tool has been "upgraded" can handle 8 sources now.

There will be kvr war if the LFO hasn't gone native :) Life is too short, I apologise for mentioning Ableton a lot in my posts here in general. Just can't brave the constant arguments on other forums!

Native? You mean no longer an M4L Effect? It's still M4L - but apparently M4L will load as soon as Live loads in '10, rather than upon loading 1st M4L device. They are mentioning optimizations such that M4L devices should work more efficiently now.

  • $229 for upgrade from 9? I had hope for 10, but this just doesn’t seem like enough features for that upgrade price. I’m gonna stick with 9 , I think i’m gonna move to Cubase for my main Daw.

Exactly that. There will be no max for live stuff at all for standard users. Ableton site is crystal clear on that if you read the feature comparison between versions.

It would kill sales of Suite so I can understand from a business perspective. It would attract praise and bitterness in equal amounts depending on what version you already bought.

  • There is a cheat sheet from Tom Cosm with a huge amount of information that I can't find in hi res to read. Anybody found a version that is not fuzzy text when clicked on?

Also read he is doing a Facebook livestream very soon with Q and A on the new stuff

  • Not bad, what they've come up with. I wished they'd add a full blown audio editor, though.
As a Live 9 Suite owner there's no price advantage upgrading to 10 suite over non suite owners.

  • I'm a bit surprised people are jumping ship, if Live 9 already works for you there is nothing quite like it available. These features won't be the only things we will get, Live 9 got multiple huge free updates over several years!

I must say the Push 2/Live 10 combination looks stunning and super powerful now that the display can show a lot more stuff!

true. i love live 9.And will continue to use it for sound design stuff. but I do a lot of scoring to picture, and many other DAW’s have much better midi editing and effects, and and film scoring tools. plus faster piano roll editing.
i feel like Live has focused more on Push and DJing; than being innovative with their software. In a world with streaming video content, and video games larger than ever, the need to score
music and edit sound design to picture is huge. I believe all Daws should provide a way for their users to effectively score to picture. They do a great job , and do respect them as a company, but for me,without those features, it’s just not enough to make me want to upgrade at that price.

I have used Live to do complete audio for one or two short films years ago, this was a bit messy (huge track count). Never felt limited at the time but I think Pro Tools is still the industry standard although that looks like it wilI change soon enough. I understand the video window is a bit broken lately, something happened with QuickTime?

In fairness to Ableton the user base is so diverse now it would be impossible to please everyone!

yeah that weird quicktime glitch drives me insane. when it cuts out several frames at the beginning of the video. makes it very hard to sync properly.
true, you can’t please everyone. oh well, it’s still tons of fun making music no matter what Daw. that’s all i care about :)

  • i have unused Intro and have no upgrade offer at all :)
Their link folder on Github was updated by the end of September

So what is it Link v2?

If you mean unregistered, you may get intro 10 for free when you activate!

So what is it Link v2?

No word on this that I can find, have been looking everywhere! It might be something they add before release?

  • I have not heard anything about Link v2, so that may have just been a typo on Moog's part. Not saying there may not be something coming, just that I haven't heard of anything during the Live 10 testing so far.

  • my Intro is registered
    i will see

  • Ableton 10 is 64 bits only. Especially when you use a lot obscure 32 bits plugins you won't update.

The current version of Ableton/LinkKit is tagged as v2.1.1, so it may just be an update to the latest release..?

  • That could very well be.

  • From Moog in another thread here:

"It was not a typo. There seems to be a discrepancy between the Link source code (which is at v1) and the Link iOS binary library (which is at v2). We are referring to the Link library that we integrated inside Model 15. Ableton is looking into making this clearer.

    Take care,
    Your friends at Moog"
