I am also a fan of this app - but a long, long time I regarded it as a toy - until they came up with Audiobus support...
I have complained on FB. And left a review to that effect on the AppStore. Devs tend to care a lot about AppStore reviews so I think that might be a good place for users of VoiceSynth to comment. Or is that too harsh?
I've commented on this in the other thread: http://forum.audiob.us/discussion/4170/qneo-voicisynth-sdk-audiobus-support#Item_1
Qneo changed updated their message on FB with a long rant, that changed nothing.
Good news? Today on their Facebook page:
Good news on the Voice Synth/Audiobus compatiblity!
Right now, Voice Synth is still compatible with audiobus, we never removed the functionality as this was and is planned for the next update. If you start Voice Synth first, it will show up in audiobus and work fine. Before audiobus updated, it did show up always in the list but many customers got a spinner if the apps were started in audiobus-VS order.
Audiobus announced they are currently working on incorporating IAA into audiobus, see http://forum.audiob.us/discussion/4214/audiobus-vs-iaa/p1. That way, you will have the best of both worlds:
• Connect all your audio apps together, be it native IAA or audiobus apps (thus including Voice Synth)
• Better performance (IAA outperforms audiobus in terms of latency and dynamic range)
• Stability of entire audio app collection does not depend on a single 3rd party app (audiobus)
We are currently developing new features for the next update. As audiobus is currently already working on IAA, we expect their update to preceed Voice Synth’s. If not, we will withhold our update for some time. That way, you can enjoy Voice Synth in audiobus without interruption.
Yay! Their info is accurate. Open Voice Synth first and it will show for Audiobus input or effects like before. I deleted my Voice Synth app, and then re-downloaded it to make sure everything was current. I for one appreciate Qneo for listening to its customers and addressing this issue! Thanks for the news @DrChris!
I have an iPAD air with audio bus and voice synth and audio bus does not list voice synth. If I open voice synth and then open audio bus it still is not listed. What am I doing wrong?
@Vanflight Sometime ago, the developers of Voice Synth decided that the performance of their app in iOS 7 wasn't good enough so they dropped Audiobus support. If you've upgraded or purchased the app since then, you're out of luck.
@synthandson yes, you're right. It just doesn't show up in Audiobus if you don't open it up first. It can actually go into any of the three of the Audiobus 2.1 slots. Good catch. Do you know of any other apps that have Audiobus support but don't show up unless you open them up before Audiobus?
Interestingly enough, if you look up Voice Synth in the Audiobus database within the app, it says Voice Synth isn't supported.
If you look at the comments by the Voice Synth developers on their app in the App Store, you can read about how they weren't happy with how it functioned in Audiobus and that Audiobus support would be discontinued soon in favor of IAA only and urging Audiobus developers to support IAA so that any app with IAA support would work in Audiobus. This was way back on 10/16/13.
Jam Synth works that way for me. I have to open it up before I open the app in Audiobus.
It is a curious way to do business, I've always liked the app and it still works well in Audiobus I've discovered. Not having your app listed in the Audiobus DB and saying it doesn't work well in Audiobus when it seems to me it does, is going to reduce your customer base for no justifiable reason especially when I've come across some apps recently that do claim to support Audiobus but have significant issues and compromised functionality.
...and regarding the discchord article: nobody should ever attempt to control Tim Webb. I think he is the shining example of what a journalist IS nowadays. All previous journalists have reported with opinions and bias, I respect Tim for not being very subtle with his! I don't go to discchord for news (I go here actually), I go for his opinions.
Well if I open voice synth first on my iPAD 4 and then open audio bus voice synth will appear in the listing. But it will not do the same on my iPAD air. And yes I also enjoyed Tim's joiner.
