  • You CAN have too much. I’m far more productive when I know what I’m playing with and what it’s capable of.
I stopped my app buying frenzy months ago. Got Model 15 and Animoog a few weeks ago, as they were on sale, but I haven’t used them in anything yet.
It all depends on your end goal. If you want to noodle around endlessly, then get app after app. If you want an end product, then use what you have as best as you can.
No point in being half assed with 50 apps when you can be a master of 5.

  • When it leads to harder stuff and you sell your iPad for heroin.

    • When you look into your list of "interesting music production apps" and find out, that own more than the half of these apps

    • When you your iOS music hobby has a clear focus to "new apps" instead of "music making".

    • When you are checking the Audiobus forum regularly in the hope of seeing a new app deal

    • When you check your iTunes store purchase history and find some purchased apps you really can't remember

  • When your 128 GB is full, but you have zero projects in there. Just apps.

When you open your folder of music apps and get overwhelmed so close it up and play a game instead.

On a sh*tty android phone, too. Man, me dum. :D

  • ...you have an hour of “free time” to make music and spend 56 minutes of it looking through your various folders to find where you left your DAW icon...

  • This thread is killing me. :D :p ;)

When you have multiple apps that do basically the same thing and haven't used any of em to make a tune (lookin at you beathawk and impc pro)

    related...
you know you're addicted when the thing on your ipad that excites you the most is the little red update circle on the appstore icon .

When you will argue all day that Beathawk and IMPC Pro are vastly different lands for the explorer to discover rather than opening either and writing the simplest four bar tune.

    1) When you have to buy a 512GB iPad Pro just to get all the apps you actually use installed. SMH

    2) When you have a 'small' memory iPad (64-128GB) and you spend more time installing and uninstalling apps to create space then you spend actually using your installed apps..

    1. When you realize you could've spent that money on a piece of hardware.
    2. You've owned Reason for several years longer. But have only bought a small amount of Rack Extensions in comparison to all your iOS app purchases.
    3. Every time there's a big app sale, there's nothing worth buying because you bought all the good apps already.
  • When you delete apps because other are better suited for it.

    Guilty!

  • This obscene sea of icons popped up in iFunbox last time I used it to transfer some wav’s from my laptop to my iPad. What is disturbing is that this is just what is INSTALLED on my Air 2.

I still have older apps like iMaschine, iMPC Pro, Osciilab, BeatMaker 2, GuitarCapo+, etc. that aren’t installed plus a few apps added since this screenshot was taken a few weeks ago like Odessa & Kauldron.

Fruity is on point here, this goes through my deranged head every time I go through the apps looking for sounds & see some synth app I never use. I’ll think “Nah, not that. Eventually I will find the perfect bit for it though...” on my way to going into Model 15 or one of the other 4 or 5 synths I use most.

@Rich303 Nails it on the head re: sales. I’ll see ‘Black Friday sale!” pop up somewhere and get all excited until I see that I have everything on sale. That should be a sign, but hey denial isn’t just a river...

When you run out of iOS devices to store them. Need to keep'em close just in case.
And I mean 5 of them

  • You know already that you won't even use the one you are about to get next.

  • Apple have a cure - they make so many of my apps useless every update!

I have the answer! I buy more - up yours Apple!

    (Yes I understand I’m a mug lol).

  • When you spend half of your sunday downloading free apps (about 40 peaces - and 20 of them can also be used on your iPod 4G) - and at night you are asking yourselve:

    Why??

That's how I feel with samples too, especially drum samples. It's a mental illness I think :(

  • ... the only way to find a particular (1out of 1200+) music app is by using “Spotlight” search!

    1200, wow thats insane

  • Try keeping ‘em organized or remembering whether you have “that” synth, sequencer, drum machine App already!☑️

  • I think I have too many with 228 music apps installed and about two thirds that not installed. I simply couldn’t find 1231 music apps I’d want on the App Store! If they are all music apps, that’s just nuts on iOS 11, as ive got lots in my download list that won’t even load anymore!

  • When you go to the Top Paid music apps....and there is all clouds or open buttons, not a single buy button on the list.
