Oh man...gotta stop watching these....at least this one's really cheap! Great, deep sounds!
I love the excitement and passion in all of your videos, well done! As for the app it's great and quickly received an updated to that settings bug!
Just wanted to echo both of the statements above. Really appreciate the great videos from @thesoundtestroom, and this is a fantastic app!
Thanks Douglas.
good spot.....was gonna pass on this.
Even the free version has some great sounds and the X-Y gives quite a bit of extra control too.
It was a weird one this..the dev, who is a very nice chap called Pier..emailed me and asked would I like to review the app...I told him I had already got the app and after playing with it for about 10 Minutes I bought the IAP and that TF7 was next on the list to demo..I love the string and pad sounds on this..cerntainly one of the most feature packed synths for the money..the FX for one thing..10 quality FX all interchangable...6 Algorhythms...
Great video as always. I've bought this already and I just wanna add to what Doug demoed in this video that the presets this thing comes with are quite spectacular, for an FM like this. Just awesome sound design by the developer. The effects obviously do help out when you need to hide some of the static-ish timbre an fm like this usually farts out. But the presets alone is worth 2-3 bucks, nevermind you actually getting a pretty awesome synth with that lol. Another cool thing also is that with a lot of the presets you can change what parameters the XY/Morph controls, can be various stuff, depends on the preset. It's kinda "hidden" under the settings tab, I do think those morph-pad parameters choices should be moved onto the main section right next to the XY pad, it feels kinda misplaced under a settings tab since it's something that is saved on per preset basis. But that's just nitpicking.
The strings are particularly gorgeous...and bell type sounds...very lush.
"6 Algorhythms"
7 even.
Btw (dev if you're reading), I'd so gladly pay for IAP presets packs on this one in the future. Even tho it might be an easy FM (I don't know FM at all really), I'll probably never get the same quality stuff myself.:)
Another well done video, enjoyed it , the sounds for this FM is just amazing. Dev , I know you reading , inter app audio for next update. Hope this would be added soon.
Great video Doug. You got the guys over at the IOS Musicians FB afraid to watch your videos. Lol
Couple of interesting UI features here too not touched on in the video:
1: swipe up on the pads and you get a full screen of them, 3 octaves.
2: upper right of the Settings page has a CPU load readout. Typically see 20-30% or so, but be energetic and have lots of effects turned on and it has (for me) hit 70 % occasionally, although truth be told the per effect cost looks really low.
And IAP of course.
forgot to mention: great video, it sold me n the synth.
One thing I would like to see is the initial position for the X/Y pad reflecting the settings for each patch.
Currently when switching between patches the indicator will stay wherever you last left it, which is a bit confusing, as it doesn't represent the actual values of the parameters it is controlling (until you touch it, at which point the values jump to meet the touch).
It would be nice to see the actual starting position to make it easier to understand how much leeway you have in each direction from the default, and also so that you can return to the original sound without having to leave the patch and enter again.
Yep, I'm in but Doug - kill the cigs. Please!
I thought it was a bone.
Doug I was almost able to stop buying apps, but you broke my will with this one! Is there a way to get the pads to play when you drag your finger across them? Maybe there's a switch I'm not seeing. I have to push a pad directly to get a note. Guess I've gotten into the habit of swiping across keys on other apps to get a run of notes!
@NoiseHorse No there isn't , but that's a feature request I'm asking for. Glissando and Legato type note swiping.
Thanks @mgmg4871! You are the fastest man on the bus! The Audiobus Mario Andretti! (ABMA for short) And thanks for filling in the correct terminology, I am always humbled by your posts...
@NoiseHorse Pier of Tenacious Frog said that is one of the most popular request and he will look into it.
Currently vertical swiping is owned by pads view change. I would happily defer that to a button in exchange for mod wheel behavior on vertical swiping. As in Animoog, for example.
I was thinking it'd be nice if the pads velocity like Alchemy where it's lighter around the edges and strongest in the center. Is Cubasis like that also, I can't remember...
Dwarman: You can lock the pad section with the lock icon, freeing up the vertical swipe. But perhaps changing the lock button into a expand/minimize toggle might work better as things like glissando/legato and whatever else might get implemented.
Thanks to Doug from the @thesoundtestroom for this, it's a lovely review and Doug is obviously very musical.
@JMSexton, that may be a good idea, wonder if any others want this?
+1 for velocity pads.
Anyway, I did read through the suggestions, it all goes into my evernote list of things to consider putting in. Thanks guys for your support. Have a great weekend!
I'll definitely be playing with this one a lot in the future. does it support virtual midi tho?
Hi @nvrhxd, it supports midi coming in from other apps , as well as from hardware controllers via the camera connection kit. Is this what you are referring to?
yeah I meant other apps, thought it only supported controllers. thanks for your response
Velocity control +1 here too. If [classified] needs to be changed, the edges thing might work (probably should be an on/off option under settings). Alternatively, or perhaps even added on top of the initial touch, a sort of after touch thing were you slowly move your finger(s) up/down while holding notes, to raise or lower the volume/expression (or a per preset set modulation like vibrato, tone, filter etc acting as a double for the morph pad), kinda like the blades in Nave if the XY modulation is set volume. That coupled with sliding over to other notes, w. legato or glissando, will make it much more expressive, and will really help bring out the amazing sounds this synth can do.
One more feature request, when doing chords or faster playing it's really easy to hit the spaces in between the cubes, resulting in no sound. Is it possible to tighten all that up a bit? Or add some magic under the hood that detects which cubes your fingers are closets to/touches the most?
