I agree with the gaps issue, was playing chords the other night and kept hitting the space. Could either make squares tighter or make them each a little larger

  • Got it @ChrisG , @JMSexton. This shouldn't be too much of a problem to do.
I have a question though - do you guys hear any difference when switching from Medium to High Quality now?
It isn't a trick question, just wondering if I should push "High Quality" even further now that the new iPads are coming.

I and @ChrisG probably won't be much help there we both have iPad 2's. On another note, great product and I'm glad it has a responsive and involved developer, look forward to updates!

  • The video sound is the Medium setting, I didn't notice any real change between settings..

@Lppier I tried the first 2 presets, Biological Error and Celestial Xylophone, switching between the various quality modes back'n forth, using headphones. And I didn't notice anything really between the medium and high setting, although those two presets doesn't use reverb etc (if that's a part of what the quality settings changes). What I did notice though is that if I switch from medium to high, the CPU usage will be higher and the audio will start to pop/crackle a lot faster, which is normal obviously. But, switching back down to a lower quality setting will not change the CPU behavior, it will still use more resources. To get the CPU usage back down I have to close the app (kill it from the task switcher) and open it again. So there's definitely something going on there that you might want to check ?

  • Just wanted to chime in with my wish list, as it differs a bit from what's here. Rather than emphasis on improving the controller pads, I'd much rather see future development on more algorithms, FX, and awesome presets. Maybe even the ability to import the thousands of Dx7 presets out there in Internet land. And the ability to assign controls to a MIDI CC.

The pad controller is a neat concept, but frankly no matter how much it is improved, I don't see myself gaining a mastery of it. Whats there is just fine for testing and sound tweaking, but its so different from what I already know. And I may be wrong but I don't see it offering any particular advantages over a traditional keyboard layout.

Since this has CoreMIDI, I can use whatever keyboard controller I like with it, hardware or virtual. So I'd rather see a focus on the above mentioned things than the controller pads. Just my two cents ;-)

  • I actually quite like the pad controller, i find that taking advantage of both horizontal and vertical movement to play patterns yields some interesting results that I wouldn't normally get with a standard linear keyboard. I do agree that the dead-zones could be improved somehow though.

  • Lppier said that TF7 supports MIDI "coming in from other apps". Is that a Pro upgrade feature only? I've not been able to drive TF7 from other apps. MIDI out would be good too.

  • Hi @Washboy , may I know what apps are you using to send midi to TF7? Thanks.

  • @Flo26: Thanks for the tip but I was doing the refresh already :)

@Lppier: After much trial and error, I've now got the MIDI in working but not with all apps. There appears to be two types of implementation around. Some apps will send MIDI notes 'blindly', while others seem to need to have a target app configured. TF7 seems to work with the promiscuous type but not the latter (presumably because TF7 is not broadcasting its presence).

So, for example, I've got TF7 working with SoundPrism and Chordion but not with ThumbJam or Magellan.

  • Thanks @Washboy, will look into this.
