Think I'm back on the Gadget train
I gave it up for a while out of frustration with the synth sounds and I felt like I had to do too much layering, but Vancouver has changed that for obvious reasons. Even with the old school pitching, it still just sounds great and the fx are very good. Had 5 plus instances of it going with everything drenched in apollo reverb and it sounded glorious. And though the GUI of gadget has its quirks, it's hard to beat the sonic variety and the easy automation of everything. So I say "yay Gadget" ugh barf.

Whatever gets you through the night.
I'm that type of guy that also have taking vacation from Korg Gadget.
I've bought every Gadget and every Korg app out there until iPolyMono, but, the last two (Vancouver and Lisbon) has not been in my attention at all...
Believe me, Korg Gadget is fantastic, but, BEATMAKER 3 is my new darling ;-)
But, hey, we have a lot to thanks Korg for, they have been in the lead of the train that has moved iOS to higher levels and acceptances...
Love Korg, mostly use its gadgets for Live gigging. But i think it would be much more awesome if they supported Audiobus MIDI or perhaps better, AUv3.
Wow, was just about to start a new thread about this ‘rediscovered’ Gem.. It is an amazing app .. I guess one needs to take the time to get to know it.. the export feature/recording of MIDI sets it apart.. Loving it..
It’s alright it’s alright
Wasn’t that Lennon on walls and Bridges?
@lukesleepwalker Better a Gadget obsession than sleep walking straight off of a cliff.
I’ve also been an “off and on again” user of Gadget just as with Beathawk and BM3 and others (with the exception of Auria Pro which always receives an unmastered mix for mastering, whether I used Auria for mixing in the first place or not.) One of my smaller gripes with Gadget was a lack of a proper folder organization system ala Audioshare, but now with Audioshare integration, that’s no problem.
So then, my biggest turn-off with Gadget was Bilbao. Even with Audioshare integration, I don’t like producing EDM with drum machines but rather by having a kick down one channel, a clap in another, and okay, maybe Bilbao for general hi hats, etc. Now with Vancouver, the game has changed. I’ve been back on the Gadget train ever since I snapped up Vancouver. I was even inspired to finish buying the Module IAPs I didn’t have in order to have every last thing that functions within Gadget available at my fingertips, including on my itty bitty iPhone SE.
I’m going going, back back, to Gadget Gadget
Welcome back brother!
I would love to re-love Gadget, but the excessive heat my poor iPad suffers when running certain Gadgets makes me think twice.
Gadget requires constant iap and has no AUV3
GarageBand can host all the AUV3 so I switched to that. And it’s beat sequencer is better than any drum gadget
Yeah but we can play on the iphone > @Love3quency said:
And it’s beat sequencer is better than any drum gadget I disagree > @sbcfx said. Gadget has so much more to offer
Cut me off!
Yes, his first and only solo US number one ( in his lifetime )..
I’ve been triggering it with Rozeta (however hard I try, I can’t remember the new name of that one and have to go and check), and so it’s had a bit of a rebirth here. I’m still interested in Vancouver too, and I think that could bring me back in more....but I’m tired of feeding money into the Gadget pot...but still...
I just love that album. I became really sick of sorrow when he was shot. Lennon was like a musical father to me... I couldn’t go to school for 3 days. Collected all the worlds newspapers. No internet back then...
Steel & Glass was one of my favourites
Thank you guys, you helped me with korg gadget! I bought midiflow adaptor today (i had already bought midiflow splitter before) . Now i can assign different sections of my MIDI keyboard to different gadgets for LIVE performance. I am not a synthesizer guy, just a more traditional sort of keyboard guy. I dont need to buy AUM anymore, which means more sythesizers!
Having some fun with Gadget lately as well.
There few questions though...
Is it possible to share projects between devices without pc?
Is it possible to share presets between imono/poly and montpellier? Programming on full screen and export to gadget would be the goal.
Is it possible to load recorded audio into bilbao or abu dhabi without exporting it out of gadget and then back? What is your typical workflow with recorded audio?
Thanks in advance.
Projects can be shared via iCloud
Eventually Gadget will get the files support and you can share projects that way, a project file is just a small gdprj file that can be imported through iCloud, Dropbox or iTunes and hopefully someday Files
Audio complicates the file sharing
AudioShare is a must have for getting audio in and out of Gadget
Haven't tested preset sharing yet but programming Montpellier or any other synth in Gadget is easily done
Me too. More like late to the Gadget party that is. Gadget, to me is more of a live control panel for EWI. Considering the great midi learn implementation, and all the add-ons, its a solid beast.
me too! after trying different workflows with Cubasis/Modstep/InfiniteLooper and various AUv3 and IAA i returned to Gadget aswell. All in ONE app, no hickups, no belly ups. more time to make music less time to trouble shoot or work around. if only there was a real distortion fx...
@dermichl they should simply include all the effects available in each of the Gadgets (for example, London or Marseille) in the channel strip.
That 'request' has been sent to Korg a long time ago.
(Would love me some 'ensemble chorus' on the Phoenix Gadget or some distortion/overdrive on Dublin).
Technically it's doable but I guess the pull/drop-down menus would get quite long
@Samu: Group by type or tag, or make icons for them and display an icon grid. Or include a search field. (UI Nazi speaking here
)
That would work for sure
I'm fully expecting Korg to embrace Files.app integration for file-sharing with the next update though...
(They just need to 'clean up' the file-structure within their 'Documents' folder to make it presentable, it's a real mess at the moment haha).
I was waiting for Your post about it
Hehe, it looks like they are doing at least something about it, the more newly created Gadget projects are 'folders' instead of 'bundles' with proper sub-folders for media types inside(samples, recordings etc.).
Currently all imports/exports(to iTunes) end up at the root of the Documents folder which is a bit 'messy'.
One way to fix this would be to create a 'Samples' and 'Recordings' folder and allow making of sub-folders, currently there is no way to rename imported samples in Gadget nor 'move' them to another folder...
This all could be 'preparation' for Files.app integration
Yup, it definitely looks like i need to have AUM. Maybe in the next AUM sale.
I like to sequence gadget using Xequence, synced up and then after I can flip back to Gadget and export audio to Auria for mixing. Just got modstep over the sales but haven’t gotten into that one very much as of yet. Once Xequence gets the export options it’s gonna be all gravy
