cool!
I’ve been holding off getting gestrument for a while because of the lack evolution andintegration with the everything else. This excites me, especially with the Scale Gen. Im watching closely...
Thanks for the sneak peek. Looks interesting.
yippity yahoo! This is on my list of "highly anticipated" for 2018.
Ditto.
I'm gonna be honest, that did not excite me at all. And I'm a big fan of touch screen instruments
That's a great sounding synth, but I'm not seeing what the touchscreen interface brings to the party.
I'm with you on that--kind of a strange way to show off, if you ask me. I'm basing my enthusiasm on the existing app and the direction they've stated.
I take it for what it is - a sneak peak. Can’t wait to see more.
Sorry, but that was a pretty uneventful, bland 2:20 mins.
I'm sure the app will be capable of more but not a great demo.
Just my tuppence.
Wait, I thought you guys were totally being ironic, but . . . not a fan of touch-screen instruments? Interesting.
For me, I thought it was great, although it surely helps that it was driving a Dave Smith analog synth...
I love touch-screen instruments! But that synth thing with the outboard effects didn't do it for me. I want to see some of the interesting things they are doing with the more traditional instruments--and especially some of the new interactions promised in the recent press release.
super interested but cmon we need details
Yeah I have Gestrument, but would like to see more really
>
Mmm, me too. This demo seemed to imply that the added hardware was a requirement, and what was done was kind of bland. I know the app must be capable of more.
Wow, I loved it. But, you know, I have very sophisticated taste, I guess.
So who uses Gestrument? Seems like a great surface to use as a Happy Accident Generator™ — although I did just purchase TC-Data for this express purpose....
Gestrument is spectacular as a midi controller. I keep forgetting to play with it (too many apps now)
And, now that I've got a little better clue how some of this stuff works, it's really impressive. Very complex compositions and nearly generative stuff is possible with some creative settings in it's midi panel.
This "Pro" version looks like it's got a builtin mixer, and that you can have greater control with a more gestures supported. I'm not sure what that x/y panel next to the mixer part is, but maybe you can assign different instruments to each of the quadrant sectors?
I pulled gestrument back out after watching this and am going to have to make more time to play around with it soon. Such an awesome app, and I'll most certainly be buying the new one when it drops, no question.
I think there's still an opening for an app that allows someone to compose a piece of music that can be "played" by untrained musicians. The original Gestrument pointed in this direction, but I'd love to see it extended so that music-making becomes a communal experience rather than a "performance". I don't know if Pro is going in that direction but I'd be delighted if the "Pro" app allowed a musician to create surfaces with sufficient guardrails that non-musicians could "play" in a free download to a device. The Playground app has potential in this area, too--but the model is currently wrong.
Not terribly excited either. I may not be understanding what I'm seeing, but I don't see anything to indicate what note is being played, or how to play up a major 3, or just play up to what I'm hearing in my head. And I love touch screen instruments, I just like ones I can play, like Animoog or Geoshred.
When devs starting teasing these "sneak peeks" does that typically signal a release is imminent? Or, its anybody's guess, and could easily still be months away?
This. But also if you just want to stay in key, and also have the experience of being able to close your eyes and play without looking, then all you need is to know higher or lower across a large screen space and it should be one direction, see ikaossilator. But I have no idea what's going on here. To me it looked like he was triggering phrases more than real playing. If it was a video of someone just absolutely shredding a bitching solo, I'd be pumped, but triggering drones eh I dunno
Looking forward to this. I have no idea if it will stray too far from the original concept.
For those not familiar with the app.

I hope that more work went into the Kinect interface. That looks sublime.
Some YouTube videos of the Kinect in action.

@j_liljedahl The developer of AUM and AudioShare is a big part of this so we know the pedigree is tops...
It’s reminded me that I need to relook at Gestrument now that we have better ways of mixing many apps with AUM and AB3
Sounds like you're describing KRFT.
Agree to disagree. I never need to see or hear anyone shredding another bitchin solo for the rest of my days. Especially not on an iPad – but that’s just my opinion.
The demo doesn't seem to divulge much, but I have high hopes nonetheless. I still haven't even completely plumbed the depths of the current version, but the dev is very smart and their excitement is reason enough for me to be the same.
I think Gestrument is as playable as any other app I know of, provided it's set up properly. You can control an entire symphony with one finger if you want, but you do have to be willing to put the time in first if you want real control.
Well not literally, I hear ya, but I like melodies and movement, etc, I'm sure that will be possible in this, but this video did not show much of a performance in my opinion
I really love Gestrument, and use it frequently, but this demo just failed to get me off.
Does this mean I have to buy a Dave Smith Instrument?
The vid said Gestrument Pro 2018, but who knows.
I feel a bit bad for saying the video was bland. The performer was obviously proud enough of the performance to put the video up for us all to see. I imagine there’s some very clever things going on ‘behind the scenes’ but it doesn’t quite work as a ‘teaser’.
Hopefully we’ll see another one soon with a bit more detail on what is going on.
The top left looks like an envelope at least.
Aye, I had high hopes but the KRFT story just saddens me. So much promise--but the world isn't ready for a new mental model yet.
