I agree, Lightroom is not good for manipulation and compositing, but for straightforward adjustments it has little competition.
Yea for it’s catalogs, presets and sync across mobile and desktop, I can’t find a competitor at all which has kept me with an adobe subscription
Save in place is HUGE, no more having multiple copies every time you transfer a file - now it will work much more like a desktop app. IMO this is absolutely the most advanced image editing app you can get on iOS, and it pretty much does EVERYTHING the desktop version does, so learn one, you learn them both.
Wondering if anyone can help.
I tried to get Affinity Photo on my iPad Pro but haven’t upgraded passed 10.3 yet so it didn’t allow my to buy it.
I’m on IOS 11 on my iPhone but it’s obviously an iPad only app.
I’m not wanting to upgrade my iPad right now but would like to take advantage of the sale price of Affinity Photo. I remember reading about ‘gifting’ it to yourself in one of the threads but can’t remember which one.
You should be able to buy it on iTunes on a computer. I usually buy most of my apps that way. In fact I bought Affinity on my desktop PC itunes. I haven't updated to the latest itunes btw.
Install Itunes 12.6.3.6( Last one before ios 11 ) from the apple site on a Desktop computer, sign in with your account, buy it, and download it. It will then be available on your device.........
Wow! This is an amazing app, top quality Thanks for posting.
May have to spring for this, Anyone know when sake ends
There's a timer countdown on the website, pretty soon....it was a 48 hour sale apparently.
When the Japanese businessmen have drunk the whole bottle.
Hey guys! It makes shroom art!
Ok, I take back my comment on too much menu diving.. actually could have phrased that better and said too much going on in the UI at once. Watched some of those Vimeo vids and it's not only powerful, but easy to operate.
The UI is excellent. I was worried it’d be cluttered on an Air 2, and I’d be confused with the menus - being so used to the desktop version. No to both, easily the most powerful photo/graphics app for iOS.
Been waiting for this one.. instant buy for me; more interested in its illustration side than photo editing.
oh yeah, I like the UI now, was just an initial impression months ago. Been too time-constrained to learn a new graphics tool since, but today sat down and realized the initial impression was wrong. Partly was flustered since 1.0 crashed a lot too, seems super solid now though.
I don’t wanna throw a wet blanket on this, especially since I talked it up so much earlier in the thread. But, it’s not exactly all “teddy bears and hand jobs”
it WILL crash on you eventually.
My advice is, as soon as you’ve opened an image, back out to the gallery page so it can save itself. And, if you’ve been working on something for awhile, back out to the gallery page every now and then so it can save where you’re at. You don’t want to get an hour into an edit and lose everything when it decides to crash and you haven’t saved recently.
Back around the eclipse, I made a composite of some compact camera images to see how they held up. I used Affinity Photo on the iPad 10.5 for the edit. Someone I know bought a good sized print, about 16x20in I think. Saw the print at her house the other day and compared it to what the source image displayed as on my iPad 10.5.
Dead accurate color. Fine detail, and looked every bit as good as anything I’ve edited in photoshop on the desktop.
Here’s that image I referenced:
@skiphunt which menu are the teddy bears and stuff in? I could use a little comfort cus I just said fare well to a dear old friend today. Gonna miss ya little guy.

Must... not... get... into... image... apps...
(ACDSee for me on the desktop. Top company.)
No Files access yet though, hope that’s on the list too
You can import and export to the files app. Exporting creates a folder in iCloud Drive. Direct file editing is coming soon
Is it working on air1 or not?
There’s no local Files folder, hopefully they’ll address that.
Don’t think so. Website says “Compatible with iPad Air 2, iPad 2017, iPad Pro 9.7-inch, 10.5-inch and 12.9-inch”.
But In "compatibility" section iPad Air and also iPad mini2 are mentioned.
So any of You uses it on Air1?
I opened it on mini 4 and it told me it's not compatible and I should get a refund. Works on the Pro, though, so I'll keep it. But if the mini 4 doesn't work with it, mini 1-3 would be ruled out as well then.
@MAtrixplan I just loaded it on my Air1 and tried for you. Sorry.

Thanks for this thread, I didn't know about Affinity and I was looking for a raw editor for iPad. I like the Affinity UI, the features are excellent, results seem good. It has crashed on me twice when working with layers but I am going to stick with this app for photo editing.
I am also going to check out the desktop version. Is it stable? I don't like the Photoshop UI, I use Lightroom for "developing" raw files but Lightroom 6 is laggy on my MacBook running Sierra. I like the organizational aspects of LR 6, but it really drags compared to LR 5, and the added features were kind of useless (HDR merge).
No subscription= fantastic!
Affinity Photo just got a massive update. I’m not sure if it’s on sale again but here’s everything that came in the last update

Unfortunately not on sale anymore. Didn't realize it was 9.99 last december
