OT: Anyone into Mind mapping tools. XMind for iOS free for limited time
Hi All
A tool that I use a lot for my work is XMind.
It is a mind mapping tool designed for jotting down and mapping out ideas in an organised and visual way.
Great for diagramming - Mindmaps, org charts, fishbone diagrams, timelines, logic charts..
This has been released for iOS and is free for a limited time, it doesn't say how long for.

Thanks for posting this! I use the free PC version a lot and having it also on my iPad will be very handy.
Thanks for the heads up, this looks really good!
Thanks @AndyPlankton Loving it
Thanks, Andy! I plan my life by this software. Highly recommended!
Thanks for this.
Many thanks for posting. When I first read the title of your post, my morning brain saw it as “Midi mapping” and I was like....wwwwwwhat?
Nice. I use mind node a lot on iOS and macOS. I will check this out.
Ya me too.
So gosh I hope this does not come off as rude. I really don’t mean to be. But for me as an old fart, I don’t understand this and how it would be practical in a non work environment? Can someone give me examples of how you use this? I am intrigued. Thanks.
@AndyPlankton Thanks Mister A. Am a heavy Trello user, but wonder whether something like this could be next level stuff. Do you use it cross-device?
Not used it cross device in anger as yet, but done a quick test....can share xmind files via dropbox.....the browser in the iOS version is using files app.
It can be used for anything.
Just start with a simple problem, dream or thought.
Here’s a drawn example
Start with a central theme and allow your mind to build up on associations as you branch out and expand your thinking
Nice contextual example there
My Mind is not mappable
My mind might be mappable, but seeing the maps would be a scary experience.
I've been using iThoughts on iOS for mindmapping layouts of plot structure and details for writing projects. It's a great way to get ideas down and organize them.
I mapped my mind....took a very long time to capture all the threads....over many many months..very complex associations between thoughts....but when I zoomed out...
it looked like this
I don't really care about "mapping", but I like that this app offers other charting options. Thanks for the heads-up!
I have 2 of them (at least) : iThoughtsHD and MindNode.
Both beaten by a sheet of paper and a pencil anytime
I find the problem with most mind map software is that it takes to long to use or its not user friendly. Mind mapping is a suppose to be thoughts that are assembled very quickly and then honed to be effective. Most apps get one or the other correct but not both.
Just my thoughts on how I use them.
I find the same with most on iOS. On the desktop, with a small handful keyboard shortcuts, I find them to be pretty quick/useful.
I like XMind just fine, but I prefer iThoughtsHD; the export capabilities for multiple mindmap formats and the MS Office suite is remarkable. I also like how it looks better, and using it cross-platform is an absolute breeze. And I use it a lot; great way to start on anything where one needs to organize one’s thoughts (no pun intended)
Not free though...
I love the idea of these "mindmapping" apps in theory... if I'd only actually use them. I'm glad I nabbed this one for free. Thanks! I discovered one of my other similar apps "MindJet" is totally hosed now.
+1 for MindNode too
But my favorite interface for organizing thought, etc. is the Headspace app. I've had it for years now and the dev keeps it nicely maintained.
The previous, iPad-only version used to be named iThoughtsHD. It's not available anymore. The new universal app is named iThoughts and it's great
it's those apps that are based on the new files app interface, they're dependent on iOS 11. Same with NoteFlow and some others
