So this Fred guy is pretty good huh?. I wonder what’s next.
Someone said they thought it sounded as good, if not as good as Pro-L. Can anyone who has both now, verify? I think I want Pro-L, but I don't really want to drop that much right now. Might get this one instead. I thought maybe I didn't need it because Final Touch has a "Maximizer", though it doesn't seem to do much even cranked all the way up. And, I can use Limiter to punch up color/saturation while limiting.. but it's really tricky to get right for me. The algorithm in the demos of this one looks like it relies a bit less on the user's skill.
I haven’t done a side by side comparison, but Pro-L2 should be released in January or February. It’s already out for desktop.
I’d say get this in the interim, it’s quite good. I’ve only used it on individual tracks so far.
Thank you all for your great support and feedbacks! This is the real motivation to provide such great products!
You will find on the official website FredAntonCorvest.com a complete description of the effect, just below the rack view.
The goal of Maxima is quiet simple: making a complicated task really easy! In a few tweaking and sometimes nothing except the right preset you get what you are looking for. + bonus the before/after fx 6s buffer viewer!
As already mentioned here somewhere, the way the process work in theory is pretty simple but having it working nicely, smoothly with the ability to change the algo behavior on the fly it's a real challenge! Lot of headaches but "kraken" octopus helped me sometimes
And yes there is some secrets spices in the Maxima recipe
Please may I suggest you to also rate Maxima on App Store, thx a lot!
here's the measurement of the desktop versions mentioned above

If your mix is well balanced it doesn't need much more than this kind of processing to make it sound full and beefy - without squeezing harshness hell out of it.
(which multiband compressors usually do - unless applied in a very disciplined way)
But imho it really shines on acoustic recordings to give (say) a guitar/voice more definition.
I usually pre-process such takes in a routine that first dirt is cut away manually, then a first leveling pass with high threshold eliminates extreme peaks and a second pass gets the desired track level.
After this process the take is placed on it's DAW track and sits much better in the mix than a raw version tweaked by gain/compression.
Of course you sometimes want exactly that 'special' effect of compressors - which then gets more pronounced, as the 'leveled' tracks don't compete in the compression domain.
"I'll drink to that!......"
HI Fred - This sounds really good - I am probably going to use it on everything.
BTW I can’t see the presets in BM3 and it doesn’t scale up on the ipad Pro 13” (also in BM3).
It DOES sound good. I also had to put the specs on to see it clearly on the Big Boy.
A very nice and useful AU app for getting your tracks together.
Anyone capable of comparing Maxima to some similar apps - AmazingNoise Limiter, DDMF NoLimits, AUFX Push, others?
I’m curious both in sound quality and interface capabilities.
Happy to read that as well as all the others who have mentioned their enthusiasm for Maxima!
I plan to add the preset manager for the extension too in a future update
So you will get same behaviour than FAC Chorus.
@all
Have a listen to the great demo performed by Doug
Good to hear this. I like the app a lot, particularly useful for someone like me who isn't clever or patient enough to really make the most of Fabfilters, but I do struggle (My Eyes!) to see it clearly on the 12.9.
The app works well and you can see the changes between the original signal and the Maxima processed signal. The design of the app reflects the signal flow as well. Being AU makes it easy to use the app for individual tracks as well as on mixes.
It s Christmas and I ll offer a promo code to the first five guys replying here with a nice catchphrase for Maxima!
Take it to the Maxima!

Maxima results with a minimum of effort!
I don’t need a promo code, though. Already have your great app.

Only written as my music reminds me of the Hellraiser set of films - there once was the promise of something great, but ultimately ends up the same old shit over and over again!
