OT best budget real synths
I’m selling my Roland SP 404-sx because I’m tired of it being a surface for dust. (No takers yet, not surprised) And I want to get either the irig pads. Or I was thinking screw it... I’ve never had real hardware before. iOS really got me into playing with sounds and I want something versatile/ fun / analoguey to play with for nothing over 400 maybe? 300 would be preferable but I just wanna dip my toes.

Korg monologue
bass station2 is pretty hard to beat. mono, but i don't think you'll get a poly analogue for that price
Unconventional option: Roland JD-Xi
Sure its unconventional, maybe even controversial but very, very good sounding.
behringer model d?
if i could only have one bit of kit, then i'd probably choose the Roland JD-Xi. seems pretty versatile and it's got digital poly+mono analogue.
Teenage Engineering's stuff seems to be pretty popular.

Novation Mininova or Bass Station 2
Arturia Minibrute ! Had a lot HW synths but arturia minibrute is my love no.1 .. VERY capabke synth with wide range of sounds and superb sound quality...
Listen, what this guy did with just minibrute, sampled and fx-ed n Reason
Maybe an Arturia MicroBrute or DrumBrute

micromonsta?

Another vote for a Minilogue.
+1

bastl kastle?
http://www.bastl-instruments.com/instruments/kastle/kastle-v1-5/
the Bastl Kastle ( new version? ) is indeed a great yet tiny suggestion from wellingtonCres, but if you order this cutie by the 24th dec,, you get the new 'divider' module included for free!! as if it wasnt already an insane bargain for an expandable modular system that's the size of a couple of Volca's side by side.. comes in under 400eu too, not sure what currency yr 400 ceiling is though?

I got a Roland Gaia virtual analogue for around 300 second hand and haven’t been disappointed, worth adding to your list for consideration
For your budget, VA synth all the way. You get presets, polyphony, and effects. Whatever you can find that has the most knobs.
Novation circuit keeps getting neat updates.

This article is good too:

Thanks so much everyone, I can’t wait to get rid of this Roland... not that anyone in their right mind would get it... maybe good for a podcast or something
Monotron!
You can buy almost a dozen within your budget.
One of my cats just said (loudly), "No! Don't!"
That Saw Bench from Tasty Chips is very fetching.
How did I miss that?
A Novation Ultranova gets my vote. It’s a VA, so won’t suit if you’re definitely after analogue only, but the workflow is great, it’s got a decent sound engine, great MIDI controller with aftertouch, it’s a 4 channel audio interface, some cool performance features and plenty more. Plus it’s got good integration with DAWs so you can make the transition to hardware without losing all of the luxury of DAWs. Then, once you have more hardware, you can use it standalone.
Microkorg. Nearly sold mine last year soooo glad I didn't. Recently rediscovered the love
Also consider Roland jdxi. I don't have one but tinkered a couple of times .. a very versatile synth. One thing that does put me off the jdxi is the ADSR envelope or rather lack of. It has only a attack release control.

It has really versatile envelope controls, but they’re somewhat hidden in the menus. The controls on the surface are indeed somewhat simplified. But the ‘supernatural’ synth engine underneath it (fully accessible via MIDI) has Access Virus-like depth and sounds really good.
There are many synths I like, but if I had to choose just one synth to do it all, I think the JD Xi would be one of the top-choices for me.
+1 for JDXI
Second place (for analog fun, great bass and great slides): Korg Monologue
(266 Euro now)
For a used device try Yamaha SY-35 (about 120,-) and combine it with a Kawai K1r (50,-).
