Another vote for ATH-M50X
(Perfect match for my new Steinberg UR242).
Make that 3 votes.

A pair of headphones, isn’t that like two sets of headphones?
I’m not trying to be picky, just not English born
Sony MDR7506

Ett par hörlurar?! (one pair of headphones, one headphone for each ear or something like that I suppose?!).
When I saw yer screen name sir, it brought back memories of the band One Bad Pig , I listen to them still, but from back in the day, and this song. lol......
I have this headphones, but, almost never used :-(
Great sound but not a great comfort on my head...
My new UrbanEars Plattan II for $45 is really great, and, fits perfect!
High quality and light on head... Recommend!
Woah, comes with all those variety of cables...? dayum...
well, these come with a hardshell case if transport is a concern. that other one though, sexy
https://www.amazon.com/Sennheiser-HD-380-PRO-Headphones/dp/B001UE6I0G
Sennheiser hd 280. 100 bucks and generally very accurate.
make sure to check the impedence on the headphones, this is critical. the ipads are designed to drive around 30-45 ohms, trying to drive higher impedence phones will lead to sadness... also, using an app like AUM or auria which supports the use of ‘measurement mode’ is also critical.
Ya, when I got mine a couple years ago, it came with all the cords except the lightning one. Cuz, Apple had yet to rid of the 3.5mm jack.
I have a pair of Sennheiser's too, not the HD-380's, but...... I really like them too. They sound really good. The cord going up to the ear phones is bare of the plastic coating, so the wire is exposed, I have it wrapped in electrical tape.
Beyer dynamics DT770' pro are around 150, or they have just released (I think?) there DT240 Pro for $99(same in Euros). Been reading the reviews & there are getting good reviews. But at the end of the day, you better off going to a decent music store, & take your iPad with & try out which ones that suit you. Some ears are more worn, that to others who make music, or listen to it.![:) :)](https://forum.loopypro.com/resources/emoji/smile.png)
Wish there was a way to globally enable 'measurement mode'(ie. disable iOS processing) in the System Preferences on the iPad since not all apps have that option when using the built-in headphones. When using external audio-devices it doesn't matter...
I think I’m going to go with the Audio Technica. Thanks to all for your wisdom and help
You will be pleased.
Another AT owner here (plus Sony MDR-V7)
They look cozy. I would too if my ears were not climatized to this current pair.
I got headphones 5 weeks ago. I was also looking in that price range.
After listening to quite a number of headphones, I decided to spend more an get the Bowers&Wilkins P7.

If I recall well, the DT770's have quite high impedance? With an iPad you might need a headphones amp to drive them. This site is quite helpful to determine how to best drive your headphones btw:
https://www.headphonesty.com/headphone-power-calculator/
Do you need "clinical" headphones for tracking, headphones for enjoyment of music, or something else? The ATH cans are highly recommended (I'd have recommended the same) but aren't exactly "clinical" in their response - that is, there's a fair amount of coloring happening to make the sound more enjoyable.
The DT770 comes in 3 different OHM flavors. If you get the EDIT:250 (apparently I can’t type on mobile) you’ll probably need an amp. But holy crap these are the most luxurious feeling headphones! I haven’t put on my ATH-50x since getting the DTs on Black Friday.
This is a great article on the merits (and small differences) of the Sony MDR headphones:
https://homestudiobasics.com/sony-mdr-v6-vs-mdr-7506-subtle-differences/
I'm probably biased since I have been using Sony MDR-7506's forever, but I have tried (meaning OWNED) many cans along the way. In the last ten years I've used AudioTechnica ATH-M50X, AKG K240 mkII, Sennheiser HD280 and the Beyerdynamic DT-150 but always returned to the Sony MDR-7506's.
They were all pretty good headphones, but the Beyerdynamic's are the only pair that came close to the Sony's best quality: complete audio honesty. There's no hyped bass, coloration, exaggerated stereo, etc. When using headphones to monitor sound in the creative environment you want it as transparent as possible- especially mixing with headphones, which is very discouraged by many who say only use monitors.
Well, one of the attractions of iOS Music Production is that it's extremely portable so you have to bring the uncolored, transparency of monitors to head phones.
That's what I get from 7506's, and at $99 they're worth having even if you prefer another set of headphones, they're perfect backup/secondary headphones.
Love my Grado SR 60s. They're probably going on 8 or 9 years old now. I've replaced the ear foams, and at one point Grado replaced the cord.
Your right. 32/80/250 ohms.
32 ohms for phones/tablets/laptops.
80ohms for studio/mixing, ect. Ok but may need headphone amp? Maybe a little quiet with phones/laptops/ tablets.
250 ohms for professional studio work(big boys mixer) & definitely need an amp.
But always when I look around, I have never seen any bad reviews about Beyerdynamics quality. But I use a pair of Sony el cheapo can for iPad to listen to, but I use mainly Focal Spirit Pro when doing projects for record labels when mixing down. Tho these little puppies are out of the budget for @RJB. But I only use the Focals when I'm using more than 30 tracks in a project as things start to sound a bit muddled.![:) :)](https://forum.loopypro.com/resources/emoji/smile.png)
Burying this thread out again![:) :)](https://forum.loopypro.com/resources/emoji/smile.png)
Wanna buy these Audio technica 50x. My main usecase will be playing/practice guitar through my helix with it. Beside that I would like to use them while jamming with my iPad and digitone.
For the helix... are these still recommendable!?
Thanks!
