Seems the reported performance hit has been overblown. Apple said they have already updated MacOS and iOS for Meltdown and no one noticed. For Spectre the biggest risk is JavaScript and they will be updating Safari soon.

Meltdown and Spectre: All Mac devices affected, says Apple
Apple has said that all iPhones, iPads and Mac computers are affected by two major flaws in computer chips.
It emerged this week that tech companies have been racing to fix the Meltdown and Spectre bugs, that could allow hackers to steal data.
Apple said it had already released some patches but there was no evidence that the vulnerability had been exploited.
But it advised downloading software only from trusted sources to avoid "malicious" apps.
Mac users have often believed that their devices and operating systems are less vulnerable to security issues than, for example Android phones or computers running Microsoft systems.
But the Meltdown and Spectre flaws are found in all modern computer processing units - or microchips - made by Intel and ARM, and together the firms supply almost the entire global computer market.
"These issues apply to all modern processors and affect nearly all computing devices and operating systems."
Apple said it had already released "mitigations" against Meltdown in its latest iPhones and iPad operating system update - iOS 11.2 and the macOS 10.13.2 for its MacBooks and iMacs.
Meltdown does not affect the Apple Watch, it said, as the bug was an issue with Intel processors which are not contained in that device.
Patches against Spectre, in the form of an update to web browser Safari, will be released "in the coming days".
Google and Microsoft have already issued statements telling users which products are affected by the bugs.
Google said its Android phones - which make up more than 80% of the global market - were protected if users had the latest security updates.
And Microsoft has already released fixes for many of its services.

Apple Watch doesn’t use speculative execution. Probably executes in order. That’s the theory.
But really.....Apple seems to already adressed parts of it but macOS 10.13.2 and iOS 11.2.
But what is with older OS or devices which can´t even update?
I hope they get these secure updates too.

i hope your right. Trouble is both Intel and Apple are referring to the average user, which means surfing the net, checking social media, and maybe a bit of video/photo uploads and light editing work. Large audio projects, with lots of vst's/vsti's, huge sample libraries ,and multi tracking live musicians in real time at high sample rates and low buffer settings doesn't really fall into this category. People are benchmarking DAW performance on all platforms & OS before and after patching as we speak, hopefully the news will be good. However in the meantime, if you have a machine that works, it is probably wise to defer any updates to the OS until the results are in, and we have more information about the long term implications. Just make sure your third party virus protection is up to date and working properly, and avoid downloading any new software off the net for the time being.........

Good that my life is too boring to be hacked.
But since it´s public now and big servers might be the most interesting targets they must react now.
I´m also a bit worried about SSD performance, audio latency etc. On booth iOS and mac.
These things are not 100% fixed and we don´t know what will happen next with our OS.
If we talking about less than 5% performance minus it still sucks but i can live with it if the other solution would be to go off the net for ever.
But just in case.....i will put on my tin foil hat for a while

Here was me, all concerned about the last Studiomux update not working properly (fixed now), when i should have been up in the loft hunting down my old knackered portastudio, and seeing if it still works..............

Seems like there is an info war going on. U.K. Channel 4 news this evening ran a short piece which didn't mention Intel once. The whole story was about the latest crisis to hit Apple products since the battery fiasco, and how even the iPhone X, with apples latest and greatest chip will be affected. They are all desperate to blame each other at the moment.......Intel have taken the biggest hit so far though.......looks like their PR machine is working full on to deflect the blame off them...........the plot thickens.........
At the end of the day, it is what it is........... All computers maybe efffected by this, but it all depends on what Apple & Microsoft do to adjust, or fix the situation?........ sounds to me like a Silicon Flu epidemic......... I'm sure the Big Boys will find an Anti Biotic for it..
