Animoog’s Expansion Packs are like getting an entirely new badass synth app

The incredible expansions for Animoog & the timbre system have been discussed in threads like this one:

https://forum.audiob.us/discussion/17737/animoog-is-amazing-plus-custom-ethnic-overtone-instrument-timbes/

But I’ll be the first to admit I’m an app junkie & sucker for new apps with a bunch of hype behind them and I will unintentionally push back older apps focusing on the new cut. Aside from Animoog’s near peerless reputation as THE MUST OWN synth I’ll confess I totally slept on the expansion packs.

I picked up the Monster Moog & Mini Moog pack and have been stunned at the quality. And yeah, I guess I should have figured with Animoogs quality they’d be impressive but Good Lord are they incredible. It gave me a deeper appreciation of the timbre system and what the app can do as far as sound creativity & custom patch creation.

I realize I’m preaching to the choir but these packs are insane.

You can get my timbre packs and presets on this site:
    (free)
    https://www.animoog.org/2016/12/23/rustik-x-k-251-new-animoog-presets-and-159-new-timbres

I am currently working on my first new timbre preset bank in almost a year break from Animoog presets.

    Going to be special.

  • Animoog is the only synth I’ll never delete as long as my device is working. Do not fear the modulation section, it’s where the power lies. Get those orbiter things moving like hell and then dial back as needed

  • Alas... if only animoog were AUV3

  • Wasn’t there a Grateful Dead Pack? I remember people seemed pretty impressed with it. I don’t see it in the store on either iPad or iPhone now.

It is actually a layering of multiple wavetables in which you determine the sweeps, and intensity, frequency and every other aspect.

The key is actually not just the "orbiter" things. The less the things move and the slower they move often produces the most superior sounds.

IMHO it is about the timbres and the velocity and note length. This along with the attack and release becoming partners.

I spent years coming to this conclusion.

The velocity that Animoog is played with in conjunction with the note length can make magic happen.

Let me give you my secret that has given me so so so much.

Silence is the most important tool of Animoog.

    Silence.

    Amazing tool for designing sound.

Silent timbre slots that is.... B)

I have one of your soundpacks and it is very good. Even though it may not seem like it, I actually do know how it works and have created many many presets and a few timbres of my own. You’re right about the silence for sure, great for making riffs that just play themselves.

My secret: multiple layers of path origin modulation. Some subtle, some not

  • Some absolute gems here. Thank you!

That is some valuable advice right there. Please share more wisdom if you feel so inclined. :)

  • Now I just have to learn how to load new patches onto Animoog. Something so basic but I have to go and find a web tutorial to figure out how to do it.

Having the extra timbres makes a huge difference to the Animoog experience. I have them all except one and it's probably good to buy the packs with most timbres first. Some have many patches with few timbres and others are the opposite.

I set up ac sabre to control the x and y point of the origin by tilt and left/right gestures so I easily can move the path. Rolling the iPhone adds detune. So many possibilities just with these 3 parameters in play! Just wish the random patch could be midi controlled, would be nice to map it to shuffle/shake in AC sabre gestures.

Sounds easy, but I still need:

    1) Another computer
    2) Another program installed on the second computer
    3) A cable to hook the two computers together, which, knowing Apple, will probably cost me $40.

Just to load new patches. It's f*ckin ridiculous.

This is why I only made a few custom timbres before asking myself if I had really exhausted all the potential of the IAP packs plus some others I was able to get. The custom timbres and presets are great to have but absolutely not required especially when it can be a headache sometimes.

    Welcome to 2011.

  • AniMoog really need to extract the digit and make some new sound packs.

  • Hi Rustik
Happy New Year. Many thanks for the free Animoog presets. My problem is that once I have unzipped the files into AudioShare all of the content is blank in there! I have deleted and reinstalled the download a few times now but the files still show up but they are completely empty of any sound. I am on a 2016 IPad Pro with tons of free space. Any help to fix this issue would be great.

I missed something there - why do you need another computer? If you run ifunbox you just put the preset files in the folder with your ios device connected by its 30 pin or lightning cable as appropriate. Unless I misunderstood your post.

As far as needing to connect to a computer at all rather than just have access to the folder? I understand that frustration.

You're right; it appears to no longer be available. I have it and it sounds great. Disclaimer: I think it sounds great and I am decidedly not a Dead fan. I tried to like them, but I have to agree with a friend who once said, "I was so diapponted. I had been expecting psychedelic genius, but I listened and they sound like the freakin' Hillbilly Bear Jamboree!"

Ah. Then in that case you have the cable already. A real file system would be a welcome addition to ios for me.

That’s unfortunate .. I purchased the Grateful Dead pack not more than two months ago., along with most of the other IAP. Hopefully it’ll atleast be recoverable for those who’ve already purchased it.

Thanks Rustik, you & @c are always favs of mine when it comes to presets, these timbres are going to be quite interesting to add to the Animoog sound library.

@Zen210507 I have a "wishlist" for iOS apps and after getting the new FAC Maxima & the Audio Damage filter day one, I noticed I had these packs as a long time "to get", so I bit, but I too had the Grateful Dead IAP listed too. Too bad it vanished, looked awesome.

It is the best pack I bought for AniMoog. Seems crazy to take this away.

  • Sorry to ask but ow do you add Silence to a Timbre slot?

    Thanks.

  • I always thought the app was incomplete unless you purchased the IAPs, which are all quality, and then experimented with others’/your own timbres. It feels kinda bare-bones otherwise.
