Most people complain about all the other app manufacturers doing precisely the opposite.

I agree, that's just as bad for sure ;)

  • one up for addictive pro here
ooh, all those envelopes and lfos..tweakers delight

    • Ten major sound parameters each with independent poly LFO and envelope modulators.
    • Real time parameter control using two X/Y touch pads, the tilt sensors of the iPad and MIDI Controllers
    • Seven studio standard effects concurrently usable
    nothing lacking there.

reslice is great too, especially with the arp pinging about.

I prefer Apesoft, Klevgrand, and Audio Damage out of the more indie developers with 10+ quality apps. VirSyn’s been hit or miss, and a big miss on all of their releases since Reslice. Their synths usually sound too clinical to my ears.

Same. Not a fan of their UIs. Have and like Addictive though.

  • My favorite app too :)

I don't own any of the VirSyn synths (though I agree they sound amazing), but prompted by enthusiastic frothing in places like this forum, I've bought a bunch of their effects apps and find them hit-or-miss. The problems I seem to have with all of them are:

1.) Their interfaces are obtuse. I get the sense that maybe they're INTENDED to be easy-to-use and intuitive, but I do not find them so; quite the opposite. They baffle.

2.) Their presets skew a little weird, don't you think? Like they're largely intended to show off the extreme possibilities of the app, rather than provide much that's immediately useful. I'm guessing this is to encourage people to use them creatively, which I can't object to per se — but in my experience, it's a barrier.

The impression I've gotten is that VirSyn apps are designed for, and loved by, people who are already well versed in the ways of audio production and design. People who know their shit will carry on about how technically advanced and exciting these apps are. Which is great for them! But personally, as an amateur I guess, I've found them hard to get to grips with, on the whole.

All that said, I have made good use of some VirSyn apps in the past and will surely do so again in the future. But they're never my go-tos. When a new VirSyn app comes out and I read, "Must buy! Must buy!" over and over, I've learned to take it with a grain of salt.

tl;dr: VirSyn apps are by audio nerds, for audio nerds, so reckons me.

I think the lack of "pretty shiny things" definitely give the mental image of an app that is NOT AT ALL REPRESENTED BY THE IMAGE OR GUI APPEARANCE.

    For real..

Don't judge book by its cover.

For instance Addictive Cube and Micro all have touch surface manipulation with XY pads or Cube has quadrant that have moving axis, like Animoog in ways.

I used to be a little turned off by the appearance but I realized what a great personality she had.......

I said literally nothing about the apps' visual appearance in my post. I have no idea what you're responding to, here.

It is a left brain person right brain person thing I think

    Or a generational one.
