  • @AmpifyxNovation I'm a big fan of the original LaunchKey.app and it's synth engine which seems to be far more capable that the 'slimmed down' synth-engine in GrooveBox which lacks basic features such as control over pulse-width...

Makes me a bit sad to see LaunchKey.app being discontinued instead of turning it into a monster AUv3 synth with access to all parameters(Think AUv3 iMiniNova).

    Ok found it.
There's another 'Tell Us what You Think Link' on the website.
    https://ampifymusic.com/survey
Come on Peeps, let them know! :) The Survey closes this Friday.

If you have launchpad for iOS, we are running another survey also, and that one closes on Friday.

I couldn't see that one in the app?

Anybody else here seen the in-app survey?

@AmpifyxNovation Groovebox is like other apps that already exist and not that interesting to me, whereas Blocs is quite unique and my most used app by Ampify.

Yep. RTM are closing on three albums made mostly with Blocs Wave, and it is worrying to see development of such a great app slow to a crawl.

As for Groovebox, I just don’t get the hell bent drive toward being another EDM app. Guys, this app has the potential to be so much more. First, add midi out, then perhaps a guitar
    module.

Launchpad. As girlvrsworld said, drag and drop reordering of pads would be fab, and midi in/out.

    Thanks.

I agree with you @Samu, i think its a missing opportunity on @AmpifyxNovation part, this synth should of been developed into a monster AU.

Business is business, not personal. Ampify/ Novation have been really good in the past, from our perspective, so I hope that the economics of the ire business model allow such development to continue.

The opportunity exists for them to do great things, but if generation EDM are paying the bills, I can understand how this community may not be a priority. It’s a symptom of the sad times in which we live.

Of course but maybe is an ephimeral market highly dependent from Apple downsides. Until now Apple seems a winner horse but headphonesgate, iOS11gate, Intelgate... are hitting for the first time truly in Apple trust. Derived from that (and forcing changes with Files.app or security at lightning port) some devices are getting inconsistent behaviour (iTrack dock I’m looking to you) so all the trust is fiat money landing to seem the most beautyful Peacock but it could go wrong sooner or later. My advice aside buying gold and some bitcoins is obviously go with dedicated hardware. Maybe Novation could develop an standalone (with or without touchscreen) hardware from this wonderful apps before all of this shit happens.

    https://www.aboveavalon.com/notes/2017/2/9/apple-on-track-to-buy-50-of-itself-in-three-years

Aside OT (and some Conspiracy I agree) the fact is strategy is all, even when the sky could fall over us.

I think it’s fair to say they’re out of touch with themselves:

    • They have three legacy killer apps, a new generic synth/beatmaker app and good affordable hardware.

    • Only one of the four apps works with their current hardware.

    • Instead of updating their two existing legacy apps, to ensure they work with their own hardware, like most of us would consider an obvious thing to do, they put all their efforts into creating a brand new app.

    • The brand new app also doesn’t support their own hardware.

    • One of the three legacy apps is being culled after being left unsupported for two years.

    • Another of the three killer apps, the brilliant Blocs Wave, which has been out for several years yet still does not support their own hardware, will not get hardware support yet as their focus is on the new beatmaking app.

    Brilliant!

I can see how this community might not be high on their list of priorities - but to ignore their own hardware customers? Could you imagine Korg allowing Gadget not to work with their Nanokey Studio?

If the Launchkey keyboard I have hadn't been bought as a present I'd be returning it now. Not impressed at all with their app strategy and hardware support.

Pro features just landed in ‘my’ App Store. Disappointing. All I see is a link for buying add-ons I already bought, irriatingly available for me to buy again, and STILL no fix for AUM use. Yes, there is an easy workaround, but that is not the point.

  • I personally trust these guys and the work they do....they do know what they are doing..you do not get to be a hugely successful synth and controller manufacturer by chance. Check out the surveys if you want some insight.

The original Launchpad app was outsourced, as was Launchkey I would suspect. Launchpad has been rewritten in-house, blocs wave has been created, and most recently they have brought their expertise in synth creation to iOS via Groovebox, which they say has taken 2 years, so they started about the same time they started with blocs and the Launchpad rewrite.

The apps each have their role...Launchpad is the performance tool, and that is why it has had hardware support from the beginning.....

Fair enough if you do not like analog emulations then maybe the current synths in Groovebox aren't for you. And yes there may be features missing that you want...but as always with software development it is mainly about user requests and priorities, and as we all know the current state of iOS is that we as iPad users are in the very small minority, and even smaller minority is those of us who want to take advantage of things like AUv3 or controllers, the reality is that we are bottom of the priorities list.....BUT @AmpifyxNovation still listen to us, this is evidenced by Groovebox needing keyboard input and that was added, CC's and automation have both been mentioned as being on the radar. EQ was added fairly recently to blocs....PLUS those features mentioned above that have far more requests than hardware support does, preset saving, better library in blocs which are on the list.
Phone users need some love too, that's why the recent make over for Launchpad...it was mainly to improve the Launchpad experience on iPhone, plus there were hints at under the cover changes that have yet to be revealed.

Also don't knock the marketing, it is the marketing that brings in the sales, the sales provide money for further development. If the marketing is working then great :), remember they do not need to attract you, if they did, you wouldn't be reading this ;)

I have said before that over the 3 decades I have been making music using synths and computers there are 3 names that have stuck with me throughout Steinberg, Korg and Novation.....those 3 are still with me now on iOS and I couldn't be more happy.

Have some patience, and that patience will be rewarded. That's what I believe anyway.

    :)

Do you not think that top priority for a hardware manufacturer, should be that their MIDI controller products are compatible with their own software?

Don’t you think they should be concerned that other companies such as Korg, provide better software support for Novation MIDI hardware than they do?

I do. However good they are or were, that lack of focus doesn’t bode well for owners of their products. There are no excuses for bad support.

Do you not think that top priority for a hardware manufacturer, should be that their MIDI controller products are compatible with their own software?

I personally do, but there are other higher priorities perhaps......growing the potential customer base to a point where more controllers/synths will be sold in the future.....which is what they are achieving....and why they have focused on Phones in the recent updates, we will all get the benefits of that in time, including perhaps a higher profile for music making on iOS.
If you bought a controller under the pretense that it will work with certain things and it doesn't then you have a right to feel aggrieved. I have seen no such pretense, they have been quite open on here about the capabilities and limitations of the apps, and I prefer honesty above anything else.

Don’t you think they should be concerned that other companies such as Korg, provide better software support for Novation MIDI hardware than they do?

Perhaps from a self satisfying point of view for them, but other than that no. As long as you buy a Novation product why should they care what you use it with. I don't think this is how they think though, I think they do care that you are entirely happy with your purchases.

I do. However good they are or were, that lack of focus doesn’t bode well for owners of their products. There are no excuses for bad support.

I actually think that Novation provide some of the best support, have you tried getting any from Korg ?, have Korg even once responded to anything posted here ? I have never had an issue getting support, questions and queries are answered here honestly. I am sure if you have a specific problem and you let @AmpifyxNovation know directly they will do their best to sort the issue out.
On the hardware side they recently extended the warranty period for Novation Circuit to 2 years...they didn't have to do that, legally the are only obliged to provide 1 year.

I’m sure all of what you’ve said is perfectly valid Andy. But the reality is only one out of four of their apps supports their current hardware controllers, which is a statistic no company should be complacent about.

They will not be complacent about it.....they know and understand the implications it could or could not have.
I do get what you are saying......A controller company whose apps don't support controllers...on the face of it does seem laughable, all I am saying is that there must be more to it, they are not daft, far from it. Whether that be strategical decisions or lack of resource and other higher priorities combined or some other reason, who knows.....just don't write them off solely based on 'the now'

They've stated on here that their focus is their new beatmaker app. They're killing off the dedicated Launchkey app. Adding hardware support for Blocs is not a priority.

That's not just 'now' is it.

@AndyPlankton I can tell you as huge @AmpifyxNovation fan that the last drawbacks as discouraging. I have bought Lunchkeys mk2 for use with Launchpad and expecting some revamped launchkey app which GrooveBox isn’t (uninstalled from My iPad ATM with zero purchases), also bought and sold LaunchControl XL due I get it for live gigs until BlocsWave/Launchpad started to glitch audio out (meanwhile Garageband works flawless), recieved as Xmas present a iTrack dock studio (I was very near to bought by myself but the focusrite.store doesn’t works properly with Safari on iOS... oh wait I’m trying to buy an iPad dock wth I need to install crappy Chrome just for bought something?) and it was working flawless until I decided to update (by force and improvements in benchmarks maybe fixing Launchpad crackling) to iOS 11.2.2 and discovered some users who can’t use iTrack dock since iOS 11... wtf?
Finally I had bought a LaunchControl to build my own footpedal controller due @AmpifyxNovation doesn’t seem interested on open third party midi support or develop something compatible in that line

Now I should decide if make a downgrade to iOS 11.2.1 and keep the iTrack dock or wait for iOS 11.2.3 and pray for Apple fixing (I understand is Apple fault but Novation Focusrite Ampify should be more transparent on this) and take care of their user base. As fan I’m very proactive suggesting it to friends and I’m planning doing some videos on my mods and how wonderful is Launchpad for live giggin one man band... or almost I thought that. Now I’m very dissapointed and I will be more cautious in my brand advicing. Probably I will end selling the Launchkey mk2 and start saving for standalone hardware. Also I was considering buying a mininova but I’m not feeling confident sincerely...

That’s how I feel and it’s sad, very sad.

Not so much a fan, its more a case of having a long term trust in them, just like Korg and Steinberg like I previously mentioned. I trust them all far more than I trust Apple for example, whose updates and refusal to adopt features in Safari browser available in others seem to be the real cause of your issues ;)

My mininova makes me smile everytime I turn it on ;)

  • Pitch per slice, manual slice adjustments, better library for imported files. That’s the real pro update.

The issue is lots of users can’t use iTrack since iOS 11. I was lucky until 11.2.1 it seems. Not the common more than the exception :fearful:

About Safari vs Chrome if someone wants to sell me something iOS based is in their side being compatible. Each click and download the user “must” do is a chance to lost that sell. If you trust so much them, it’s ok but as strategy for them is wicked.

  • That’s such a shame about the launchkey app, it’s one of my favourite iOS synths You can actually use it Without getting bogged down in controls when your trying to be creative. People love it for its ease of use.
That Groovebox thing is just another rompler.

  • @AmpifyxNovation just updated blocs. The crash when pressing info button is fixed. Well done!

  • My Ultimate Cream Dream list for Blocs Wave:

    • More options for manipulating and sequencing slices
    • A section mode similar to Groovebox
    • MIDI Hardware control
    • A mixer screen with effects, or at the very least multiple outs to I could route effects through AUM
    • Working with AUM 100% of the time

Seriously wrong here, there is nothing rompler about the synths.

  • If I could have just one new feature in each of the three Ampify/ Novation apps still being developed -

Blocs Wave - AU FX apps assignable per sample.

    Groovebox - Midi out

Launchpad - pick ‘n’ mix sound pack *

    • The idea is for all available sound packs to be also available as part of one large bank, where customers could make their own custom sound pack. Up to the usual number of included sounds.
