Watching vids about music that was ahead of its time. This one is 8-bit video game sounding music written in the 1840’s.

One of the most bad-assed monophonic synth solos of all time--eleven minutes of awesomeness, with Carlos Santana on percussion! Alice is playing a Orbit III synth built into a 1970s Wurlitzer organ. All that music on a 25-key synth with a single VCO.

  • You can learn a lot about arranging and orchestration from those old disco records.

Ha Ha! I stumbled across The Tubes last night. I had totally forgot about them.

It reminded me how much more fun and weird life was back then. 😎

Never heard of this group and I love what I'm hearing so far.

I was singing this one and “What Do You Want From Life?” last week. Excellent choice.

    A few…

The new Thom Yorke & Mark Pritchard Album, at least a few of the tracks I’ve really taking to…

Several of the tracks are this are just incredible. Really enjoy the different ranges Thom is still exploring his unique vocal range. Came here to share this but glad I checked someone else did!

Which tracks are you guys liking? I listened to it once, found it a tad boring. Another complete relisten: still feel like I’m missing something. Maybe digging into an individual song would give me better results

I envy you cause you have so much to discover. Neil Hannon is probably one of the best song writer ever

I'm too biased with my Thom Yorke opinions but I'lll give it another listen and report back!

    • It occurred to me, upon reflection, that my definition of boring in music probably differs highly from yours, so it would probably be best to ask what you found boring about it and what have you have found exciting musically lately to get a better idea and give a better recommendation, since boring is so subjective yanno? My bad I didn't think to ask a bit more before offering - @Squishy

Dope that you've given it a couple listens and are still trying to find something about it to dig btw! I too like to try a few times with records/albums I find challenging.

Hmmm, how was I bored… I guess a lotta the songs felt like the slower tracks on Amnesiac and MoonPool, but without the greenwood magic. A lotta vague pads, not much percussion. But like I said, maybe Pritchard is doing something with the washes of sound that I’m not aware of and could be led to. Kinda like a David Lynch movie I guess, haha. I’ve had no real issues with Thoms other solo/electronic stuff. Shit, maybe third time(listen)’s the charm!

I get what you’re saying, I definitely wouldn’t put it up against any of my all time favs of Thom’s projects, but I found some of the tracks a nice listen through. Greenwood adds a ton to Radiohead so that’s always missed.

I love a lot of their slower songs so that’s a vibe I dig anytime of the day and find it oddly energetic in feeling when a particular arrangement just hits me the right way.

To me, currently, I think the album is centering Thoms vocals more so than anything. There’s a lot to consider with the different fluctuations, styles, tempos, and pitches that transpire through the album.

While I love percussion / rhythm in a lot of music I enjoy lately, it’s a thing that I didn’t sorely miss as it felt as if it wasn’t a focus of what the albums vibe seemed to be trying to achieve. I hadn’t thought about the lack of it until you mentioned it truly but it’s definitely something I’ll consider on a relisten.

It’s not an all-timer, it has a couple songs I probably will skip on the next listen, but it had some nice highs and I found more of those than the lows/skipable.

Well said, man! I’ll keep all this in mind and give it another spin. Maybe I’ll take a long drive, for some reason driving always helps me connect with music. Maybe it turns off (or on) certain parts of my brain 🤷🏻‍♂️

  • Stumbled on this, found it interesting. Didn’t know Japan had a funk music scene in the 70’s.

panda bear :: left in the cold

Wow, this is pretty current. Love him in Animal Collective also.

Yeah, very current .. just released his latest album, Sinister Grift, on Friday..

This might be my favorite from the new album :: Elegy for Noah Lou

Been a big fan of all things panda bear / animal collective since I first heard ‘em over 20 years ago .. dang, time flies

This is lovely, I dig it more than some of the earlier more experimental Animal Collective stuff, much of which I found a bit grating. This is a bit like a less earnest version of Fleet Foxes 👌

Animal Collective, They are from my general area!

This definitely has a Fleet Foxes Vibe and I definitely dig it.

    Oohh men, this is crazy

  • The whole of this but especially the top and tail ends. Intense!

  • I must have born in the wrong era, musically. I seem to like music from the 60’s and 70’s more than the music of today. Man, this song and arrangement is perfect. I don’t know much about the group, but it must have been awesome to hear live bands like this live back then.

  • This early album from Chick Corea is still my fave by him. Best female crazy screams on any album for me.
