  • Anoushka Shankar, so of course it is good.

  • French song at its best

  • Hollow Knight: Silksong - Cogwork Core

  • Just when I needed something fresh, this popped up. Seriously skilful (microtonal guitar and bass, live looping, strange time signatures, polyrhythms etc) and joyously bonkers, particularly the costumes and presentation.

    Warning: it’s addictive!

There are a couple of full concert videos on YT as well.

  • This DnB song goes way too hard for a random ass fishing game.

my absolute favorite of recently discovered music.

  • Mouse on mars never gets old. Their albums from the nineties still sound fresh and new.
    (Glam, Iaori tahiti etc)
I found out about them when there was still music on mtv.

  • Gravity’s Gone by Drive-By Truckers

Great Southern Rock song. I love the chorus:

So I’ll meet you at the bottom if there really is one
They always told me, “When you hit it, you’ll know it.”
But I’ve been fallin’ so long it’s like gravity’s gone and I’m just floatin’

They are from are from Québec, were kind of getting popular for the last 2 years or so, but are completely blowing up right now. They make a child/family friendly show next month but is unfortunately sold out. Would have loved bringing my 5yo there!

That KEXP set seems to have been the catalyst. It’s good to see they’re taking off. They’re playing 3 dates in the UK soon but unfortunately I don’t think I’ll be able to get to the one nearest me due to health issues. Hopefully they’ll come back again when I’m in a better state!

  • Rene hell

I just back from a garden center in NC where I was buying some garden supplies. They had this video playing on the store tv on the wall, watched it there with some farmers. They were all like “this is weird”. I was thinking thats pretty weird too, but its also very good. Came right back home to find it posted here. What are the chances…

Maybe they would have preferred their fellow North Carolinian’s electric rake?

That KEXP set has gone totally viral, it’s heading rapidly up to 6m views in just over a month. And they’ve sold out all their planned shows. I find this hugely encouraging!

    Mr Eugene Chadbourne:

I quite enjoyed this for the brief time it was playing. And yes, I did listen to the whole of Lou Reed’s Metal Machine Music…

On the whole, though, I prefer Angine de Poitrine. There’s now a whole halo effect of people watching reaction videos to their stuff, and even a spoof reaction video. Plus someone’s doing chiptune covers on a C 64…

  • The lyrics are a bit psycho, but the composition and Gladys Knight's velvety voice sells it to me.

Right now my Bond theme music is ranked as follows:

    1. Nobody Does It Better (Carly Simon)
    2. License To Kill (Gladys Knight).
    3. You Only Live Twice (Nancy Sinatra)
    4. Skyfall (Adele)
    5. Live And Let Die (Sir Paul M.)
...the rest, with Chris Cornell's last.
  • The new Puma Blue album Croak Dream is phenomenal.

Tracks like Desire, Croak Dream, Hush, (Fool) are all so dang good. Heres the track, Desire.

  • Stumbled on Dudley Moore (the actor) tearing it up on jazz piano. Didnt know he had these kind of keyboard chops. Went on a search binge for more of his playing

Truly superb playing. Incredible versatility - to think he was also a ground-breaking comedian ("Squatter and the Ant" never fails to crack me up).

Yeah, truly a great talent. The music fell on top his hands at 2:28 mark, he picked it up, tossed it aside without skipping a note.

Great White - Psycho City (Full Album)

I was looking at some MTV rotation logs from old Billboard magazines (1992) and saw a Great White song called Big Goodbye which was on very low rotation. It got moderate air play on radio too. That led me to some YT interviews with Alan Niven who said the label barely did anything to promote the album.

Finally decided to check it out, and like Winger's Pull, I was blown away. I think my favorite right now is the closer "Get On Home", which Alan Niven said was composed/produced after they had wrapped up the album proper-- he found it so good, that it was decided to include it.

the new Holly Humberstone album is out today, and it's stunningly good, should be near the top in this year's best albums list (in mine at least)

    Holly Humberstone Beauty Pageant

arrangement is even a little beatle~esque in this one

  • Two beautiful things come together, a Bach fugue and classical guitar played masterfully.
