Launchpad (the app) is a fun app that integrates really well with their Launchpad hardware.
Looptunes has a lot of similarities (launching loops synchronized to beats), but here are some key differences:
1. Looptunes support for more midi controllers than just Novation ones, or you can map your own.
2. Looptunes lets you load a session while you’re playing another one
3. Looptunes has allows for crossfading or having separate FX for left and right sessions, for a more DJ’esque workflow
4. speaking of DJ’esque, LooptunesDJ or LooptunesHD + song deck upgrade allows you to play songs synchronized to your beats. (2 song decks + 2 beat grid decks)
5. Looptunes allows you to layer pads in a vertical slot, so you could have a kick loop, snare loop, HH loop playing all in one slot.
6. Looptunes has ‘per loop’ editing like filter, lfo, etc.
7. Looptunes allows you to pitch a loop on the fly
8. Looptunes sessions load blazingly fast, whereas on Launchpad it takes much longer
9. Looptunes has an online browser that lets you browse, preview, or purchase loops from a database > 10000 loops. You don’t have to purchase a full sound pack, just the ones you like. The online browsing alone makes it a lot of fun to come up with new ideas.
10. Looptunes (HD and DJ) has a cue channel which is awesome for live jamming
and now since Looptunes 3.0.....
11. Looptunes has a step sequencer
12. Looptunes allows you to post sessions online
not yet, because as soon as you select another pad to be able to play the keys, the recording stops.
seems like you figured that one out
ugh, the help box is misplaced. It should be above the settings icon. Press that one, then "Record master", then "Start recording"....do the same steps to finish the recording.
Switch to pad mode, make sure the "Select" button is highlighted - this lets you move pads by dragging them. Drag them outside the pad grid to remove them.
for sync, as well as updating controller's lights or knob/slider values.
it's relative
hmm, there might be a way to hack the xml file. I'd have to check.
yea, I'm aware of the issue. Will look into it.
hopefully fixed in 3.0.7
as mentioned above, you can drag loops around in pad mode/select mode
working on it...might even work in 3.0.7 but I haven't had a chance to test it yet.
the FX are processing the entire session (or song deck). I don't plan to change that behavior anytime soon, since it could complicate things.
Hope this helps.
is this working better in 3.0.7?
never mind, I can reproduce......arrgh
getting a new patch build ready.
Just updated, and now I can get a loop to play once maybe twice, then I can't get it to make another sound. The output meter on the mixer shows its playing but I get no sound. This is with the built in loops that ship with it. I have to kill the app and restart it again for it to make any sound.
is that 3.0.7 update available now? I’m at work, but will test it as soon as i get back home. thanks
Yes it does help.. a lot
..thanks for taking the time to answer.
Update has just appeared for me after appstore refresh. Not tried it yet though to see what's fixed.
That updated manual is needed
This is what my issue looks like.

cool thanks
@AndyPlankton @sonicreef thank you for your answers
yea, really sorry about that. I just fixed it and I'm uploading 3.0.8 to the app store. It'll hopefully be available later today.
That is awesome. Was having lots of fun with this great app. It's great to see wonderful development progress with this app.
Yeah same here! Great dev! Really appreciate the work and cool app!
yeah , know worries man. we really appreciate the quick fixes and communication with us. i can’t wait to update and play when i get home from work
No probs sorry to bear the news, I know your get it fixed. This has actually happened to me before with the sound dropouts a few builds ago but was fixed.
Got the update and all is good in the land.
Thanks so much.
@sonicreef - yes, latest update seems to fix the problems. Thanks - really enjoying the app.
One question: When trying to load _some _of my Audioshare samples, I get an error message that the sample is "too long". This happens with some of my shortest samples (some are about one second or so - a synth stab). Conversely, some of my longer (and shorter for that matter) samples load without a problem, so the issue can't be sample length, as the error occurs irrespective of this. Any ideas as to what might be causing this?
I got that yesterday too and thought I fixed it. Is it still happening in 3.0.9? if not, I'll have to revisit that one.
Yes, still happening in 3.0.9, though the other stuff has been addressed. Btw - thanks for the snazzy update to the sequencer, still getting my head around it.
3.0.9 out yet outside beta not seeing it?
Yup, its out.
Hey @sonicreef - importing samples from Audioshare no longer a problem. Seems to be all fixed - no more error messages. Thank you, thank you!
the iPhone version is a trimmed down version. You don't have the option of song decks on iPhone, and no step sequencer.
I might at some point make LooptunesDJ available for iPhone.
@sonicreef I tried the new 3.0.9.... a couple of things
When using Launchpad MK2 have to select Launchpad Pro as the template.....seems to work but there are buttons on the Pro that are not on the Mk2... the left and bottom rows of function buttons. Don't know if this will cause any funnies but it seemed to operate ok.
The orange coloured pads on the Launchpad Mk2 do not get brighter when selected they stay the same colour. Other colours get brighter.
You said multi input devices may make it in to this build...did they ? I assume not as you can only select one....you can select multiple out devices though.
Is it possible to user edit the Launchpad templates with any added mappings be able to control the colours ?
Things I would like mapped that currently arent...or I can't find
Other Launchpad ideas that would be nice
Another idea not related to controllers
Each column configurable for whether loops are exclusive or not...it is great being able to stack loops particularly for drums....but it would be nice to be able to have exclusive columns as well, it can be tricky trying to turn off 4 loops in different columns, and then turn another 4 on and keep time...having an exclusive mode for columns would make this easier. Something else that may help with this is having a configurable quantize setting for each pad, i.e being able to set pads to quantize to 4 or 8 bars...currently it seems fixed to 1 bar.
Multi MIDI input devices would be priority for me though.....to fully release the performance potential of this app
I purchased the iPhone app and it’s amazing. Just dabbled a bit so still not problems with load samples due I didn’t try it
What’s the common workflow? Import from audioshare?
