@Galaxyexplorer Now you will have to find yourself a nice jacket with huge pockets.
Ordered. Now that that thing has the same processing power as the big one there's really no need to get an iPad Air anymore unless you absolutely need the bigger screen.
Just don't go over to macrumors and read about the washed out screen and other shit they are slinging about the new mini. Got a 64gb space gray wifi mini on order but still not sure if I want to wait one more year or not. It's not like my iPad 3 is broken or anything. Anyone upgrade from the 3 and was blown away?
Is it big enough to do all the expressive stuff we use the touch surface for? I started out on a phone, but got pretty used to the full sized pad and it seems kind of cramped sometimes.
But it has not the same processing power... it has the same processing power like the iPhone 5S. That's enough i think but more is always better (for me).
Saw a lot you-tube videos about side by side comparing and yes, when it comes to high performance the Air is better and faster.

....cancelled.... ordered iPad Air instead After seeing some of the benchmarks i thought i will go with the fastest iPad out there. Ha ha lol.... hard choice this year. I think also the gpu will not run the same as on the Air. So seems i jump from 4" to 9,7" Please tell me that that was a good choice. I def. will not cancel this. The good thing is i can "test" it 14 days and if there is something wrong or i still prefer iPhone production i can send it back.
Where you are buy it with this beautiful Story???
Story???..... in Germany the law says if you buy something online so you can't test it before like go into a AppleStore and take your hands on, you have the rights to give it back within 14 days.... even if you have used it and load your apps on etc. You even don't must have the original box. Of course it must be still look 100% unused etc. Because of that i prefer buying online such tools instead of going into the shop and buy it
.... of course this will not work with underwear etc.
I cancelled my mini 2 order too. Gonna try to stay with my iPad 3 for another year. I'm sure these new iPads are amazing, but all I really want that my current setup doesn't already give me is lower latency for live use. The device alone isn't going to make that happen. Add in needing a new case, new USB connector (still on 30 pin), new mic stand holder, etc. I'm just not feeling it. Once iOS7 is ironed out and devs start creating/updating audio apps to really take advantage of the increased power of the A7 I'll be onboard for an upgrade.
There might even be some in the refurb store by then.
I have an iPad 3 and got a mini last year when they came out. Since then I have hardly used the full sized iPad even though it has more power. The ease of use just made the mini my go to device. I have not had a problem with the smaller screen. Just ordered a new mini 64. Can't wait for all that power in a tiny package!!
I was going to replace my original iPad mini with the new Retina display model because I was thrilled at the fact that it now has the new A7 chip and 1GB of ram same as iPad Air. However after reading that the A7 chip on the mini Retina Display model is slightly slower than on the Air I decided to buy the iPad Air instead because I use it for video and music production. It is a great tablet. However I am a bit worried about the build quality as a few Youtube videos say that the screen cracks very easily.
.
The new mini is only a tiny bit slower, if you can actually notice that tiny difference remains to be seen.....
...but i think especially on heavy use (which music production is) there is a bigger different. The graph on the cpu test which anandtech made is nice to see this. They push the 5S, mini retina and Air to the limit..... all clock down after short time. The Air slow down later and can hold the max longer. From what i saw there i would say the iPad Air runs still about 25-30% faster after a while of heavy use and about 60-70% as the iPhone 5S. The casual user will never notice this but i think with things like Auria or running heavy Alchemy desktop presets on the iOS version etc. the Air will be your friend..... but i still like the smaller iPad mini retina for beeing much more mobile. However, this year seems hard to decide or prefer on of these
Okay I ordered mine today, 128GB WIFI, stealth gray. I got a 10% off coupon so I actually saved over €60 on it. I'm looking forward to it. Hope it won't take too long but they said it ships within 3 days. Does anyone in Germany want to buy my 1. gen mini wifi 64GB silver/white? I guess it'll go on ebay, though.
Coupon you say? Details!
It's a 10% off coupon from MeinPaket.de for their registered customers valid for purchases up to 2000€. I guess that's only usable for Germans, though...
I write now from my new iPad Air and...... i think it was my fault to cancel the mini retina It's a great device with awesome power and screen but for my workflow it's just too heavy and big after trying to make some sounds, playing games etc. So i will order again now an mini retina. The mini retina seems to fit more my needs.
You are a riot @Galaxyexplorer. Be sure to see the articles blasting the mini for it's color gamut issue before you place that order, cancel it, put it back in, get the device, hate it, repackage it and send it back, then regret returning your Air, ok?
I have the newest iPad mini with Retina display. I think it's really a good size to work with. However, the music keyboard for GarageBand seems to lag a bit and the sound seems to have a little static. Anyone have similar issues? I am not running anything through Audiobus when this happens.
I'd say that if music creation is the focus of your iPad usage, then the slightly smaller colour gamut on the mini won't really affect you. Mostly it is photographers who would consider the issue.
Mine came today. Looks really nice. I already loved the previous one.
@boone51: The color gamut is perhaps a little minus but the mini seems just to fit in general in more things. F.e. as Navi in my car, reading an e-book in bed, better size (for me) for playing games and my favourite synth Alchemy with one hand etc. The Air really looks and feel great...... but yep, it's just still to big for me to have enough fun to work with it.
Yup. A coworker bought the Air this weekend and let me play with it at my desk for awhile this morning. It is awesome having the extra real estate, but it wears off in no time because it is just plain heavy and large. I know it's way better than the iPad 4 and previous, but it's still no Mini!
Going to try to get my Mini Retina tonight, assuming I can find the one I want in stock.... hopefully!
I will sleep another night over it.... still have some days to try. If the Air would have 2x the power of the mini retina i would go for it but since the power is near (not the same) it's hard to go for the big just for the extra power (which was the main reason to choose the Air). But i can say they seems to be booth great devices for producing music
Edit: .... At the other side i also want to try to "learn" to handle a big iPad because i'm sure we will see an iPad pro (or something like this) and i'm sure this will be not available as a mini version but i would buy such a powerhouse for sure. And of course an iPhone 6 with an bigger screen would make the mini worthless again (for me). Yes, sounds dumb but....... that's me. In a perfect world i would be rich and would take them booth However, my iPhone 5 screen now looks so damn small WTF :O
@Galaxyexplorer I would like to point out that I'm on the record somewhere in these forums for saying that you should get the mini. After all of your comments about loving working on the phone (As I do as well) and then hearing that the specs for the two were the same basically, I just didn't even think you would consider the Air. I don't know when you decided to go with the Air (which will be my preference as well since I'm already coming from the massive 2), but I wish I'd been there to talk you down and remind you that you love the smaller screen ;-)
If I wasn't so lazy I'd go find that post, but I'm telling you, I totally told you this already... lol
I'm jealous, btw. So very jealous.
@boone51: He he, i still know this post. How i said the reduced weight and the up to 30% more cpu power (when it comes to longer heavy usage) and yes the better colors perhaps a little bit said to me "take the air". I must say some apps like "Solar Walk" just look awesome on the big screen. Perhaps you're right and i should wait some days and give it a harder try Whatever i do, at least it was the wrong choice lol. One for sure, i upgraded from iPhone to an iPad musician
@Galaxyexplorer - priceless. This could be a quote from me...
"Whatever i do, at least it was the wrong choice"
I've held the mini and I'm positive it would be way too small for my tastes. Mainly because of Auria. Heck there are times when I wish my iPad 2 had a bigger screen. I look forward to shedding a half pound off what I have now. Since the 4 was actually heavier than the 2 I'm guessing that folks upgrading from that will notice the biggest different there. I just want to be able to run Bias (...or just substitute the name of your favorite app here) into Auria without cracks and pops. Guess I'll just have to keep recording in BM2 first until I upgrade.
