  • I would like to know if there will be next generation of 12,9 Pros

  • edited February 2018

Unclear. If I should believe the rumors they will drop 3.5mm port.... :(

  • Is this the only place that mentions a 3rd generation of iPad Pros?

  • How do you hold an iPad with no bezzle ?

    Carefully! ;)

I suppose it would make little difference to myself as I can just use the little widget thing they would supply, but for some it’s a real pain of an idea. Really they should be supplying more ports to keep a ‘Pro’ moniker IMO. We know by now though that Apple don’t really aim their devices at Pro use really, just rich types that like style over substance lol

  • Maybe I am happy mine died recently as far as performance.

  • Some sites suggested Apple might lower the price of the 2017 model tot $259.

I would love them to do with the Air2 what they did with the Air1 like 2017 cheap model. A cheap iPad but with the screen of my Air2 would be just the ticket. Not bothered by the size, more battery would be better.

I personally would love them to bring back an updated version of the Mini. Shame that they are EOL, probably afraid that they cannabalize on the the upcoming iPhone X plus models. Also loss off 3.5mm sucks for me. I have now an iPhone 7 and this dongle stuff is thriving me mad, lost already 4 times my dongle... Besides that it feels everytime I use the lighting port it could be the last time, just feels not that robust. But till so far it survived.

  • If they really do away with the 3.5mm port, that will be the last straw. Seriously fed up with these guys and thier innovation free less for more strategy.

    Apple is the new Gibson.

i thought I could live with when I purchased Ip8plus ... but its a real inconvenience....

Imagine you want to play a quick impromptu DJ jam with friends.. and suddenly you spend all your time searching for those pesky 1/8 adaptors.... NOW i have 6 of those.. given my propensity to lose them,

For a simple quick mic recording/guitar recording.. you have to run for the sophisticated interfaces

ofcourse I dont have the newer Irg Michd2 and iriguitar2, I rigmidi2 with headphones

Rather extreme, as you presumably have a perfectly good iPad with the 3.5mm port right now, and an investment in lots of great apps.

For me, reducing the functionality of new iPad’s would mean I don’t even consider buying one. But for some time to come I’d hope this one stays working, and if it broke beyond fixing, I’d be looking at - what would then be - an older model to replace it.

There is also the rumoured IOS apps running on Macs possibility. If I could emulate all my music apps on my Mac, that would be helpful, having then run alongside Logic Pro X.

Oh don't get me wrong. I still use my air2. But it's starting to show its age and the 64gb just isn't cutting the mustard anymore for my needs. I'll just pick up a windows tab later to replace it if they do away with the 3.5mm port is what I meant. Ableton even in crippled form will be more than enough to replace most of my on the go sketching needs. The Lenovo Miix 520 is particularly tasty since it has an actual quadcore i7....

  • .... and they're gonna cost £1000 base because Apple say so.

Yes, that is one route. What I was thinking, though, was that if an iPad minus audio port is to be released, then iPad Pro’s made right now - with the port - will be available for a short time for less cash. So you could extend the working life of IOS on hardware that has the 3.5mm port, for the life of an iPad Pro. Maybe five years.

  • Anything less than halographic foldable and with Monkey Magic behind ear extending Apple Pencil - will be a disappointment :p

    True. ;)

Seriously, though, whoever designed the Apple pencil so that the only way to charge it was directly into the Lightning port should be fired.

Yeah Apple are full of crazy ideas like that lol.

Hopefully this new release will be another non ‘Pro’ model that at least has the quality of an Air2 but with a faster processor but at cheap money. I won’t buy a Pro model at £200 more than my Air2 was just to get extra speakers and use a £100 pencil.

I would like a thicker iPad with more battery life, but I do want at least the screen from my Air2.

If they are going to have one socket only, at least make it exactly the same as they have on their own laptops. Having two different connectors seems kinda odd to me. Therm again, much of what Apple does seems odd to me lol

You can charge the pencil with the USB/lightning charger. I do like that you can charge it from the iPad though, I mean you just gotta plug it in for 30-60sec or so and you can make doodles for another hr

If they remove the 3,5mm I'll drop Apple when my current iPad dies.

I disagree. There are adapters to connect the pencil to usb chargers and the lightning cable, but the ability to plug directly into the iPad as well means you will always be able to recharge it when you want to use it.

That’s ok then. Can the pencil run for more than an hour?

  • Yup, can't remember how long atm. My 10,5" been in service since I bought it in December, half the screen is wonky af on that model (and obviously no one can sort it out, I wish we had Apple stores over here..)

  • So if there is no headphone jack, what happens when you use a MIDI keyboard plugged in to the CCK? Do you just have to imagine the music as you play it?

The problem with this statement is I don't trust the current pros at all. It's the main reason I didn't upgrade. It's a bit hit and miss whether you will get issues with the headphone jack depending on when the batch was produced. The newer models seem o have all their issues fixed with firmware updates but the first batch is horrible. Here in India I'm pretty sure most of the Pros on sale are the original batch.

  • lol. Possibly the same guy who made iTunes and the Files app.

Do the speakers stop working when you plug in the lightning port? I agree though it is not ideal. Maybe we should all start asking for demos of the Roli Seaboard in store and then asking about headphones once they are set up..

Zeeon sounds amazing live on stage from the iPad built in speakers. So what’s the issue? Also you can use Bluetooth headphones which gives you a delay in the audio. Delay is a cool fx so really it’s even better than hearing in real time.
