Ah, then that would indeed be a risk.
no your not - iam joking sort of .
I agree
No port will equal no more iPad purchases
Shame really as have a lot of money invested, but having my fingers crossed for a new updated mini --- still with 3.5mm, will be purchased.
But no 3.5mm equals goodbye iPad hello bitwig and Ableton on surface pro..
Super happy with my dell touch laptop, and soon to be purchased Ableton 10 upgrade
Life will go on
Strange apple took this approach when Bluetooth don't cut the mustard, but as mentioned apple are interested in the mass market, not us, which as a business I understand.
Through good marketing they have cues of fools queuing up to buy Mac books and iPad pros to look at Facebook and read emails, most of them could get away just using a basic chrome book, so apple will just keep going in the same direction
Perhaps they might give more emojis to the new pads, we cry, but millions will love it
Sorry to be a bit of a hater, but apple are really beginning to get me down
And breathe
I remember a time when a piece of hardware with 3.5 mm jacks and not 1/4 inch was considered cheap and toy like, not professional.
After I got the UR242 i’ve not used the headphone jack at all on my iPad. What I would love to see is more ports, two lightning ports and a usb-c port and bring us a built-in card reader with proper mass-storage aupprt for easy file transfer of photos, videos, audio from field recorders and other files too...
Or android without the latency
I’d like to see some use made of the smart connector. So far I have a Logitech charging stand that sometimes works and sometimes doesn’t (seems like every other iOS version breaks it again)
But it would be so cool if all samu’s stuff could be in a dock that would use that connection
Yeah, I would not mind at all having a 'docking station' for my iPad with more ports
I would also use my Zoom H1 a LOT more if iOS supported standard mass-sotrage devices over USB for simple file-transfers.
I already use the CCK3 with an external USB-Hub to which I've currently connected the UR242 and iRig Keys.
It would just be a matter of connecting the H1 to one of the other USB-Ports and import the files...
(This I can easily do using my MacBook so it is doable but Apple is just paranoid to allow the Files.app to access mass-storage devices). It's quite easy to 'switch' between iPad and MacBook Air. Just one usb cable from the hub, either to the Mac or to the CCK3.
When I use the 'hub' with the computer I connect the lightning cable from the iPad to the hub so I can use IDAM as well.
The 'hardware' solution is already in place, but iOS needs to mature a bit more. I'm really looking forward to iOS12...
@AndyPlankton
Agree, then all iOS apps ported to android would be great as android tablets are fairly priced and you can plug a terrabyte drive directly in
Don't see it happening this year
Problem with all those docks is that they often don't work anymore with new versions of iOS. Besides that if Apple keeps changing plugs it's also annoying. 30 pins connector to lightning and in de future they will probably go to usb-c.
On teh otehr hand I just want to do everything on my iPad with using all kind of dongles and adapters and @Samu Apple dropped t the SD card reader on the new macBook Pros so SD card readers won't be the future everything should be on the cloud according to Apple, much easier they say.
I agree - just bought the Zoom U-24 for £60 and now just use that with my keyboard plugged in as well. That said if I am doing basic synth programming or noodling with Blocs on the sofa then I do not have a problem with a bit of latency over Bluetooth - so for me no headphone socket would not be a deal breaker.
As for Apple adding extra ports - I would love it - but they will never do it. For Apple, the cloud is the thing. They would love everybody to pay a monthly fee to connect to iCloud - the more they can get customers to ‘buy into’ the Apple ecosystem the better.
The iPad is the best tablet available and has by far the best and biggest variety of music software - that is the only reason I use it and will continue to use it.
Shame that there is no Android device/app selection to get near - would use it in the blink of an eye.
Agree, Problem is that Google doesn't seem to give a damn about becoming a serious audio platform. With the Latest version of Andriod (Oreo) audio latency has become much worse (say terrible, see link below). Only alternative seems to be a Windows 10 tablet with Bitwig
https://wccftech.com/android-audio-latency-issue-oreo/
As an aside and as it seems so much of their strategy is/should be about encouraging hardware purchase, if they ever DID make apps usable on the Mac I would def. buy one....
You are right of course - that is why I would not leave iOS at the moment. I have had way too many issues with win 10 on all kinds of hardware.
QUOTE OF THE YEAR!!!
OMG
SO FUCKING POIGNANT
Apple buys Gibson to save them....then removes the 1/4" jack from everything
They have an adapter for that, don't they? Or maybe they don't, I guess you'd have to get a keyboard that does 5 pin midi and an interface with midi and a headphone jack, then the usb3cck, plus the interface and keyboard probably will need power, so either be near a power outlet to jot down your quick midi idea once you find all of those parts or get a battery pack and rig that up.
Or, get a bluetooth midi keyboard.
See, not so hard! Apple just wants to support your desire to buy tons of new, extra little things.
Say hello to 'iGuitar Air'
I don’t think they’ll remove the headphone jack on the iPad. They’re marketing the iPad as a “PC replacement” and more towards the pro market. Wouldn’t make sense to remove it. They haven’t done it on their Macs either.
Amazing new offer - iGuitar Air 2 - free no strings upgrade.
Fed up with having to tune your iGuitar Air...Fear not, We have the answer....we took the strings away too !
There is enough room inside iPad to retain the headphone jack and they did not remove it from the newer iPad models even after they removed it from iPhones (waterproofing, whatever reasons) - which means they are going to keep the jack on future iPads.
Further, Apple should add a mini MIDI port to the iPad for connecting the gear easily
LOL
I wouldn't put it past them to do something like that and I'm surprised they haven't bought Gibson out already.
