Best AUv3 for Guitar FX
I had been messing around with BIAS Pedal, which I like because I goof around build DIY FX pedals in the real. However, once I laid down some rhythm guitar and attempted to play some lead I hit the Inter-App audio issue of only being able to load one instance of Bias Pedal. Now, for me, a lot of the FX I like aren't too guitar culture focused but more avant guarde. Audio Damage's free fuzz is alright. So I am looking for AUv3 fx suitable for guitar. I like to sync to BpM because I am working on the 134 Electro.
Any suggestions? I do have FAC Chorus and Bram Bos Kosmonaut already.

This dev has a whole line of cheap AU fx pedals. Cheap as in inexpensive, but the fx are pretty good, with some interesting options among the choices.

This is the link to the warm distortion pedal, but from there you can find the rest.
The issue I have with some of these is that there is a segment of guitar culture that is living in another era -- which is fine, but I am more inspired by the kind of innovations going on over at Chase Bliss Audio for example.
No offence to the guitar folks, but I have always kind of hated the sound of guitars -- probably due to the radio playing the same pink floyd song over and over and over. I mean I can get into it, there are some virtuosos but for the most part I have always reached for obscure midwest hip-hop or underground techno/breaks.
I have a unique homemade guitar and treat it more as an expressive interface that provides raw signal for interesting effects chains, than as a way to learn tab for my favourite old hits by AC/DC.
It was announced a while back that ToneStack would go AU this summer. I don't know how on target they are with their announcement, but it would be really cool to have if it comes out.
@futureaztec Yeah, I am right there with you on the classic rock Guitar sentiment.
If you didn’t bother looking at the stuff I suggested because of the Warm Distortion Link, you really should. Like I mentioned, he has some weird ones too.
Also, maybe check out Amazing Noises stuff, or Futre Sonic.
Everyone is raving about Dischord4, but I just got it and haven’t tried it myself yet. I expect great things, though.
Ok, I’m gonna go practice my Lynyrd Skynyrd solos now.
To piggyback, Audiodamage’s Replicant is a cool and unique effect to experiment with on guitar. You might not think so upon reading the description, but once you try it...
Other than that, I stick to Audiodamage, FAC Chorus, and Kosmonaut as far as AU goes. There just aren’t a lot of quality outside-the-box type AU effects. The best of those all came out years ago and are sadly probably doomed to IAA confines.
Awesome.
Have you tried Audio Damage's "Grind Distortion?"
It sounds like you would enjoy building your own effects chains in AUM out of AU apps. You'll want to get Rozeta so that you can send midi LFOs at everything.
Specific AU apps to look at (these are at the top of my list for highly processed guitar):
Kosmonaut and FAC chorus that you already have
Grind
Discord4
Filterstation2
Eos
Set up a AUM bus for each of those. Run Rozeta LFOs at AUM's send faders, volume faders, pan faders. Run more LFOs at internal fx parameters as needed. It will get crazy and interesting real quick.
Yes I have all of these except AUM. I have been working in Cubasis, because I felt like AUM might just turn into a bunch of sequenced loops with only mute functions. But you can't (to my knowledge) do MIDI parameter modulation in Cubasis with AUv3's. Does AUM open all of this up?
The last cubasis update added AU automation. The parameters are hidden until you write some automation info to a parameter, then it will show in the automation editor. Weird, but way cleaner actually.
Yes indeed. In AUM you can do MIDI parameter modulation, and it is sweet. For example, say you have Eos in an effects bus. Run two Rozeta LFOs at it: one to vary the room size and one to vary the dry/wet mix. Run two more LFOs at the pan and volume on that AUM bus. That's just one AU instance and already you've got something insane.
Tonebridge is AU, and free.
Sure, it’s not top quality but something that can be tweaked/further effected.
ToneStack going AU would be, as some might say, mega cool beans.
So awesome...I twisted a dial on an AUv3 and it cycled the loop and automated my gesture like a real DAW. That's a pretty big deal. Pushing it a bit further...Is there a way to "MIDI Learn" these knobs to a controller?
I was kind of chuckling when I checked out the concept being Tonebridge: It is an app made by a guitar tab company that allows you to dial in classic tones from you favourite rock bands so you can play Hotel California and all the great old tunes. If you scroll up and read my second post you will see that this is absolutely not what I am after.
I mentioned it because it was AU and maybe could provide a base for your avant-gard noodlings.
Plus some others might not realise it existed.
I wish you well in your search.
I believe it has to be supported by the AU app. Syntronik has Midi learn for the knobs in AU mode, but I couldn’t find a way to Midi learn the knobs in Phasemaker, just automation recording.
While I share a similar sentiment about Tonebridge, mine wasn’t so cynical...I really enjoyed a brief 15-minute spin playing the old blink-182 classics. They did a good job on it for what it is.
Plus you can crack open all those little black boxes since the last update, which makes things a lot more useful.
Who says you can't use a Hotel California preset for a Kraftwerk style tune?
You can even create your own tones if you wish ;-)
ToneStack AUV3 not out yet?
Fuzzplus (free AU app by Audio Damage) is by far the nicest guitar distortion that I've used on iOS.
WOW Filterbox (soon to be AU) is also great for guitar distortion.
Could you perhaps post a sample AUM project? That would be awesome. Thanks
I haven't tried those with guitar yet, but imagine they would be pretty good. Not sure if it's AU, but I thought some of the bitcrusher apps work really well with guitar - works like a fuzz pedal, but different than a lot of the sounds you'd get from most analog dirtboxes.
Is there any good iOS effect app (AU, preferably) that turn a guitar signal into a "synth" sound, similar to the ElectroHarmonix Synth9 or the Pigtronix equivalent? That would be nice, since those effects pedals are mostly north of $200.
Jam Synth is free. AD's Grind is awesome.
Not AU, but the Tonestack PolyOCT effect is quite good for that.
I really like the sound/tone out of Tonebridge. I think it sounds great.
