Anybody tried turnado for guitar effects?
My first thought too, going to jam some this weekend, should be able to get some craziness going. Don’t know why I haven’t run my guitar through it before the AU update ...
Re: Tonebridge tone, I haven’t used it in a while, will revisit. I think it’s an amazing app for free.
That one is awesome! I wish @dreamless would make an AU version but it seems he's no longer active.
You could likely accomplish something similar to guitar synth using tonestack's blue fuzz and envelope follower effects but again, not AU yet unfortunately.
For synth I would use an octaver, envelope follower and distortion. So any octaver (not much scope there in software) and WOW Filterbox
I agree on JamSynth. I mistakenly ignored it up until about two months ago. I already bought MidiGuitar 2 and figured it was the best available on iOS (it most likely is, still).
JamSynth looks a little toyish and is free. I figured it probably sucked. Boy was I wrong!
I love this app, and have been using it more than MidiGuitar 2 lately. They use different algorithms to generate the midi from the audio, so you get unique results from each one.
If you already love MidiGuitar 2, or if that one is a little pricey, definitely check out JamSynth. Free app, with functioning Midi out included for free. Amazing.
Re: Tonebridge - I’m in this camp. Just tried it last night and for my incredibly limited skill level (plus the fact it really can mangle anything) thank you, thank you, THANK you
I have to say that iOS has some fantastic sounding distortions. I prefer what I have on my iPad to my (large) pedal collection (which even includes DHA valve driven overdrive units that I thought wouldn't be beat!).
Some unbelievably good distortion units:
Grind
Fuzzplus 3 (very different to Grind - don't dismiss because it's free)
WOW Filterbox (it's called a 'filterbox' but the distortion algorithms are the best part!!)
AUM's 'saturation' node (SO WARM!!)
Blamsoft DC-9 Overdrive
Many many more, but all of the above are overdrives with very unique character that I use regularly and consider usable on studio recordings.
Also, I would add that I don't like to use complex/stereo effects which have convoluted signal paths. Those are great for synth stuff where they can become a part of the machinery, guitar effects should (imo) each perform a largely simple task that enhances human expressiveness, rather than essentially replace the sound with a different sound by process of black box.
(I do like Turnado's delay units though. I find them very creative)
For delays I also like RP-1 and Dubstation 2. Both are great and very different, suitable for different purposes.
For reverb, I quite often go with Blamsoft Zero Reverb. It's simplistic while still being great sounding and malleable. Blamsofts AU apps are all amazing, some of the best AU effects on the platform (and also some or maybe THE first). Eos2 is a clear leader for me for a really high end reverb, but Zero Reverb still very often wins out for me for an individual part.
For chorus, FAC chorus is way ahead of the field for me, but I often also use Blamsoft Zero Chorus or the chorus effect from RP-1 for simplicity (which has aural benefits as well as mental and computational).
My advice for using stereo effects on guitars is to keep the main signal mono and then have a separate stereo effects bus for spatial things, that can be mixed in as a separate track. This is heavily based on personal creative preference as a performer first, producer second.
Dynamics: RoughRider2, AUFX Push (not AU), Amazing Sounds Limiter or AUM nodes.
There's the bread and butter. Lots more options that I've not tried which will be fantastic possibilities too.
Additionally, all the AUFX apps are first in class for their respective categories, but I haven't included them because they're not 'AU' FX.
No worries, amazing for free eh?
Drop this 5 years ago and it would be a revelation. Incredible that the tools we have these days for little $ are so powerful something like Tonebridge is overshadowed by the big boys.
Thanks for the tip re. Tonebridge AUv3. Nice sound (reminds me of Amp ONE). Great price.
Does Tonebridge only provide 4 controls to AUv3, including bypass? For example, if my preset included a wah pedal controlled by the pedal tilt, I don’t know of any way to control the tilt via the AUv3 controls. Am I missing something?
Anything amazing noises or apesoft as well as...
