iOS Games that distract us from making music

  • this.....PUBG Mobile, just came out recently..... almost feel like I shouldn't be telling anyone about this that doesn't already know, I hate to be the cause of distracting anyone from making music, but this game is crazy if you like battle royal last man/team standing shooters. And you can talk to team mates on your Ipad earbuds. I might need to check myself into rehab over this game, lol.

Can you recommend any games that can be played with two iPads together?

Table tennis might work but it would be tricky to get spin on the ball with the glass surface.

Lol. And jousting with Apple Pencils.

    Ultimate frisbee :p

Not really a game but the single biggest culprit - YouTube!! I do more YouTube than watch TV or Netflix.

For programmers like me, games do not distract or intrigue (we know how they are coded) as much as serious data-based apps do.

Simulation apps - Aerofly FS 2, Infinite Flight, F-Sim Shuttle, Quadcopter FX (you don't need a real drone!).

Nailed it for me brother -
The YouTube time-sink my son sucked me into.
And chasing good glide slopes in AFFS2 and IF totally burn too much time!

Here is a good discussion on flight simulation apps:

Back in the day, when I had flight sims on a PC, take off was always a breeze. Landing, a whole different ball game. The worst was landing on an aircraft carrier. Never did get that one even half right.

I used to like finding ways to defeat the logic of such games. One, I recall, was a sim of an F117 Nighthawk (stealth light bomber) which I couldn’t fly very well. So I ‘drove’ it at top speed across the Iraqi desert, and surprised a few locals by blasting the target at ground level. ;) The programmers hadn’t thought of that.

With respect, only partially true article. (And pardon the hijacking). For instance a C172 climb is 75knots at full power. Anything less and they’ll be scraping you out of the plane.
And I’ve read that a very high percentage of Mustang casualties were not in combat, but in training; the Merlin’s torque was so high that without significant control input and power management on take off the engine would flip the plane over. (Something confirmed in the DCS Mustang DLC - taking off is a nightmare!)

I posted a game here but I already deleted it. I was thinking about aesthetics. Like, I should really only be playing games with artsy graphics and deep meaningful narratives, instead of flashy explosion type scenarios. Need to be more careful about what I allow in my life.

  • Well...if you still have time to waste, the new Call of Duty mobile is just great...

  • The game that distracts me more is called “Buying too much new music apps”...

  • Drifted back to the PC Gaming recently and indulging in some discounted Steam action ... Grim Dawn (great game), Project Cars, The Witcher 3, Borderlands 2, Kerbal Freaking Space Program ...

I had to uninstall PUBG on iOS a while ago for the sake of my own health. The only iOS game I play regularly is Hearthstone and that’s only because of sunk cost fallacy. Due to the recent Hong Kong banning thing I might have to give that one away soon, can’t support that shit in all good conscience...

Flight Sims? I have a soft spot for IL-2 (Still installed) and Falcon 4 from way back in the day.

  • The only game i play is The darkest dungeon.
    Beautifull sound design and vocals.

  • Miniclip 8ball pool...

  • Playdead's "Inside" was so well done and so super creepy at the same time, really enjoyed that. Elder Scrolls Blades is like video game crack here too.

  • I have the exact problem with my Nintendo switch. To many games, to much distraction, not enough time for the things I really want to accomplish. Luckily i just gave the Konsole to a friend of mine, for a week or so. First world problems I guess.

  • The playdead stuff is next on my list.

On a similar note everything from Amanita Studios is great. (I heard about it here.) Esp

My personal (free) fave is Ubisoft's Trails Frountier

Modern Combat 1-4 (5 is crap) (best FPS on iOS)
Galaxy on Fire 1,2 (3 is crap) (best space shooter / storyline on iOS)

    • no stupid subscriotions and in app microstransactions
    • gallore of fun in standalone mode
    • nice gfx
    • lot of fun
    • oh, in case i forget - no stupid subscriptions or ingame IAPs :)
  • Swords of Ditto is a fun little action RPG - Gameplay sort of reminds me of SNES Zelda. Easy to take in byte sized chunks.

..I try to avoid games that require more of a time sink, as I don’t want to lose focus on my music.

  • Use to play Samarost on pc with the kids. Samarost 3 is on App Store. Yayyy!

  • Samarost was fun too, I like quirky little games like that.

Me too. There's a few by that dev on the App Store. Downloading Sam 3 now on my v-e-r-y slow wifi.

  • Mariokart!

I probably should do that too.

Clash royal is my other favorite game.

I’m an avid toilet seat player and I really love well designed simple yet clever skill games.
Here’s a couple of my absolute favourites, some of them have amazing electronic background music!

  • Still playing COD Mobile on my phone, not as addicted to it as I was but it’s still a time suck.

  • iOS games that I can recommend and that I played a lot are:

    Dead Cells
    Downwell
    GRID Autosport
    7 Billion Humans
    Rush Rally Origins
    FEZ
    Machinarium
    SteamWorld Heist
    SteamWorld Quest
    Steredenn
    Dandara
    Minit
    Baba Is You
    Super Hexagon
    Crypt of the Necrodancer
    World of Goo
    Atomik: RunGunJumpGun
    Huntdown

...and as always Limbo, INSIDE and my fav game of all time since my childhood - Another World

  • Sentinels game. but mostly, my main competition to making music is solo tabletop rpgs.

  • I played Michael Brough’s Imbroglio almost exclusively all last year, no exaggeration. After the first couple months of obsession, I did something I’ve never done before and used freakin kids’ controls to set up a half hour daily time limit for it. I finally moved on in December when I found a worthy replacement in Krumit’s Tale (which is also fantastic and held me for a good 3 months), but I still hadn’t beaten it with even half the characters. Brough’s Cinco Paus sucked me in, too, but only for a couple months.

Right now I’ve got a void in my long-term game slot. I’ve tried other high-rated card games like Slay the Spire but meh, nothing’s really done it for me.
