IF if if I was a developer

I would have long been on the case for an Alchemy "like" app and same for this with this news.

I would not let ego deter me, for instance in the case of Alchemy.

No shame in doing something that everyone wants and loves.........

    Same for this.

    But honestly.

I get Smpr is a cool app.

But I really don't "need it" like I actually do ReSlice.

Yes and yes.......after all this years with iOS and using all synths, DAW´s and FX on it. Having favorite tools, forgot about it and revisit them and liking new shiny synths more but get bored fast again about it i miss Alchemy (the old great app) the most from all iOS apps and could hate myself to update to iOS 11 which doesn´t helped me in any way about iOS music tools yet.
There are synths which are far better for certain character and sounds but in general Alchemy was and is the most versatile and useful iOS synth i ever had.
The closest might be the coming Synthmaster One (even more editable as the iOS Alchemy synth which is more like an extended player) but still not quite the same.
NS2 Obsidian could take place here but it´s still some months away at least (from what i saw in the NS forum).
But sadly i guess there will never be such a thing like Alchemy for iOS again......at least until one day they offer the Logic version for iOS as well which is one of the greatest synths ever created with some outstanding FX and morphing no other tool can do.
    Sorry, i gone off-topic but f......y.......iOS 11 and i want Alchemy and NS1 back!

So the owner of the app gives Samplr and all the tech behind it away to another developer for nothing. Or makes the code open source, if that’s possible. The new dev takes the time to learn every detail of the code so they can add new features for a free update — or a few bucks for some kind of IAP.

Something only an iOS user could demand. :)

You forgot to add the bit about AU with separate audio outputs and midi inputs :D

  • it's usually faster to rewrite from scratch than to understand/edit someone else's code.
At least if the code has some intellectual deepth.
The tricky part is always the user interface mapped to workflow, which is great in SamplR but poor in most IOS (DAW related) stuff.
That's why noone did an extended version yet, imho.
There's no rocket science implemented in SamplR, but it's just smooth operating. ;)

    My thoughts exactly.

  • If someone picks up continuing on where Samplr leaves off please make it universal

Very true, Samplr is an iOS gem.

the closest apps are sample whiz and blocs wave in my opinion, and neither of them are like Samplr

I still not see what’s the feature you miss, sorry... I used Blocs and ReSlice for chopping and pitching duties but with BM3 I feel most them redundant.

    How do you use it?

there isn't any other iOS app with this workflow Dubby, but of course I understand if it's not the kind of workflow a person is interested in then they won't be drawn to it.

  • the video shows pretty well how a 'simplyfied' (or limited) set of actions can lead to a very individual playing style - making the thing a real instrument. Cool.

Yeah, love how the app really takes advantage of the iPads strengths. The way you can switch between the modes while simultaneously working the slices, arps, and fx is really unique and so expressive, it’s in a league of its own like tc-11 or ikaossilator

If it still works and is still on of the best apps of its kind i wonder where the trouble is. (O.K. panning.....)
    Sometimes it´s easy......if it works....
Maybe a new major version would make it even too complex and unfriendly to use.
Of course it seems that the developer couldn´t make a living from it so it still great to see that it get updated to work with the latest OS.
Otherwise there were other apps i would like to see before in other hands :)

Panning is all I want, although I’ve heard some good ideas from others...... panning is the holy grail request for this app., as well as individual outs for the sampler slots.

Yeah I know is unique on its own but I was intrigued due never get totally involved to it. I supose the best strenght (multitouch) is which get me far from it (I prefer pads to chopping than screen).

Thanks for share the videos, I will look deep into them, mate.

  • That’s one of the feature request I’ve often heard too, being able to assign a midi controller to the app, I can see how that could be pretty cool. I haven’t really seen any request for anything that would bloat the app or destroy its workflow

It will be cool with two roli blocks with waveform on them and MPE support...

  • That would be crazy 🙂

  • It says something about this one that nobody is asking for another developer to put out a similar app

It was a revelation at the time. In my opinion it still is. It's obvious from using this how much love went into making it.
I suspect we will see a little update that adds Link at some point in time.

If you don't already own this, get to the AppStore and correct that asap!!!

    **Dear Marcos,

Samplr is far and away my favorite instrument of the last two decades. It has formed and shaped me as a musician. It is the reason I own three iPads, and the reason I own several vocoders (Samplr is my carrier signal) , and was featured extensively on our album. It will be featured on every album I make, if the technology lasts as long as I hope it does. It is brilliance. It is painting with sound. Please know I love what you have created, and Samplr surpasses every synth, drum machine and effect I have ever owned: and I have owned a lot! I understand why people are passionate about keeping the app alive, and I am one of them and want you to continue, but it is ok if you have moved on. Just know it is a work of art. Thank you.

    Absolute plus one.

I totally understand folks here who don't love it as much but instead of sulking Im quietly glad that it is not as popular as GB.

    Be the niche.

With the other samplers out there, and the other examples given above I would love to see some demos that are half as good using competitive apps. Maybe I haven't seen them since Samplr is such a favorite on this forum and SampleWiz and others aren't (or aren't yet, like Samplist).

Here is a 5 year old video that I play once in a while to remind me of what is possible on Samplr. I think this is what eventually became the demo track within the app.

sample whiz is no slouch either , was just getting back into it in light of this thread and it's pretty cool, but Samplr is just well... Samplr. It's just got that thing like the op-1, or the digitakt, orphion, loopy,

  • I’d rather there be a concerted effort to get some peeps to bang out the remaining iKaossilator sound libraries.

  • Samplr receives midi. From my beatstep pro externally or from launchpad internally. Am I missing something here

you know how much I concur unfortunately the ikaossilator cannot crowd surf with only you and I in the room... I don't know why more people aren't vocal about that app. IOS users work in mysterious ways

    Midi notes?
    Midi clock perhaps...
