This looks more versatile than Impaktor to me, because you can trigger different timbres depending on the surface you hit.

Impaktor will also generate different timbres depending upon the surface you hit.

Other than AU support, the big advantage AAS Objeq has over Impaktor is the ability to go into an FX slot so you have more control over the sound sources you use to generate sounds with it.

Ok I didn't know that. When I've used it in the past only one sound could be triggered at a time, maybe I missed a setting somewhere.

It depends upon what surfaces you have at hand, the mic you’re using, and the synth settings in Impaktor with respect to the variety in the timbres you get for a particular setting. Being AU and having multiple instances will allow for a layering of timbres not possible with Impaktor.

Cool, yeah very nice, but I hope it gets automation.

    it automates fine in cubasis...

ah thanks, I totally missed the parameters as they are all there :)

Anyone tried putting melodic material through this?

    Does it respond to midi?

  • What would happen if you ran an acoustic guitar through this?

  • Would love to see this in action. Has anybody jumped in yet?

  • how close to the desktop version is this?

  • There is no desktop version unless people are getting mixed up with Objeq Delay. In which case perhaps a send/return chain with a delay could be setup in Aum to reproduce something similar.

  • oh, wow that must be the mix up... thanks

  • FAC Transient is a good app to use to control the input to Objeq. It doesn’t have nearly as sophisticated a synth and array of timbres as Impaktor.

  • Does anyone know if this can be used to make more hard-hitting cinematic percussion style sounds? Or is it limited to more bongo-like hand percussion sounds?

Are there any video demos out other than the one by AAS?

I got it... if you were expecting an Impaktor AUv3 you might be disappointed. It is fairly limited. 3 basic timbres with about 7 parameters that can be adjusted.

No, not particularly “hard-hitting” by any definition.

The responsiveness is great, very quick just like impaktor.

Do I need this if I already have Impaktor?

  • Hmm, think of them as different apps. buy this for what it is, not for how it compares to impaktor.

It’s a very well-implemented AUv3 and a good first showing for an app, but to me the sounds are underwhelming compared to Impaktor.

Fair enough. But I bought Impaktor as part of my giant haul last Black Friday and it is one of a number of apps that I have yet to try out, much less learn. So I think I will pass on this one for now, although I remain intrigued.

  • I bought it because its AU and it has potential...but it needs a lot more sound control. It has nothing on Impaktor except that its AU which does get me excited about what is possible and on the horizon... Bring on Impaktor 2 with AU please!!!

  • Impaktor does offer a lot more in the sound design area!

Happy to see more companies testing the waters and AAS can do physical modelling quite well on a computer so I might have to get this one also...

  • If this is a testing the market thing, not sure this was a good entry. I’ll buy almost anything, but I have no interest in this as it is. Based on the App Store videos, it seems very limited.

Yeah, I know just what you mean. I looked up their desktop stuff, and would be much more enthusiastic for some of that. I do like the idea it can be put into an FX slot, but want to see a video showing this being useful a opposed to a toy.

  • I’ve been a big AAS fan for many years on the desktop. I purchased the app basically sight-unseen as a ‘see, we sure are nice supportive folks here on iOS!’ gesture. ;)

Lots of their goodies I’d love to see come over to iOS. (Even just the SoundBank player would be a nice addition).

  • The video doesn't sound like there is much difference between the timbres. It sounded like the same one with a bit of reverb or slight change between them.

Can anyone confirm this is the case?

The differences are “subtle” but this is a great app. This should not be too much compared to Impaktor as the philosophy is very different. I really think that this is a very original and innovative app and it is a big GO for me

  • Im kind of blown away by this app. Its biggest drawback (and its a massively limiting one) is being unable to control the pitch bar to a scale. Or at least I havent found a work around yet.

But besides that, I’ve had awesome fun running iPulsaret through it, cutting the grain length to very tiny pops and having the density and length to random and infrequent then modulating parameters with the Rozeta LFO, suddenly Ive got a resonator akin to the Mutable Instrument’s Rings but at a fraction of the price! Who needs Eurorack!

Impaktor is very special, but is very difficult to do anything but play live with it- there is sadly no midi implementation, and also, no way to feed it audio, other than the microphone. No audio in from audiobus, or iaa. About the only way one could automate it is to play back a recording of impacts from another device, using an audio interface. Or, (ridiculous) using a multi output audio interface, playback the recording out of an extra output, like out 3, and then loop that around to plug into input one. From there you could twist the knobs while the recording played the beat.

This one does that out of the gate. And you get as many channels as you want. And you can use it as an effect.

  • I’m not really sure why they market the it way they do. It’s unusable on my iPhone, just too much noise from the mic,it’s a totally different story as a audio effect. I’m yet to try it with a contact microphone however.

  • Would really love to see this one in action. Anybody have this?

  • Here’s a demo of Objeq used to effect the output of an Audulus 3 patch. The second half is Objeq.
